Hello everyone! This shall be my first post on this forum.
I am trying to write a fanfiction involving the Ayleids and I need some help on the research.
For starters, does anyone know anything specific about the Ten Ancestors mention in the quest The Collector? For instance, what they are, what they do if anything, and why they are called the Ten Ancestors.
My theory is that they are called the Ten Ancestors because they have something to do with the 10 greatest states in the old Ayleid empire before it fell, which would be were you find the artifacts in question.
Speaking of fanfiction, THIS, may be the best I've ever read and I've read quite a few so give it a shot!
Any and all other aspects of Ayleid related lore anyone would like to discuss is also welcome!

Ah the Ayleids, one of my favorite things about the elders scrolls IV
What knowledge I have may be little, but it can be useful. i know that there was once a great Wenkyld stone in every capital of all ten Ayleid states. The great Wenkyld stones were a symbol of holy worship and power. When The Ayleid kingdom began to fall at the start of the new era, the Great Wenkyld stones were plundered and sold for an enormous profit, nobody trluy sure of their real worth. They are opposite to a great sigil stone, and only one great wenkyld stone remains at the start of the game.
I also know that the Ayleids were a more primitive version of the High-elf race common in Tamriel, which is why they are so in-tune with magic.
Unfortunately I am not very familiar with the Ten Ancestors. Sorry.
Hope this information has helped. :3

They were prideful of their magical prowess, perhaps too much so. They possessed technology better than is present in oblivion, but not as advanced at the dwemer. They believed in making everything beautiful... and deadly. They had teleportation magic. And I dont know how to spell alyeild ( is that right?)

it spelled aylied, i believe X3 And yes, I wish they were still in Cyrodill. Their magic would be powerful beyond belief. Their technology would surpass everything that roams Cyrodill today. It leads to wonder, how were they defeated in battle with so much advanced technology and magic? Could it be that it was too much for them to control?

Its mentioned on occasion in the game that their downfall came not only from the rebellion of their human slaves but from the fact that their nations were so divided and torn by infighting and rivalries for power that they couldn't manage to form a solid front against the rebellion, at least not for long, and were eventually divided and conquered.
This makes me question, however, what were they fighting over?
Its also mentioned that the Ayleids were deadra worshippers? This makes me think about what kind of religious system they might have had and how it might or might not (though most likely it did) tie into politics. And did they ever had religious wars? Or were all deadra equally respected in their eyes? Or did they have a heirachy of deadra princes?
I suppose I sort of imagine the Aylieds as being rather similar to that of ancient Pharaohs of Egypt. Though this might also have something to do with the fact they they were described as a golden skinned, dark eyed and hair. But also because they're said to have a polytheistic religious system that was heavily tied in with the use of (dark) magic, slaves of "lesser races", an abundance of wealthy, and an impressive army.
