Rook sat on a park bench, bundled up in several layers against the chilly air of fall. He hadn’t been to one of these places since he’d been a small child but now with Zora in his life it was going to become a habit. His charge needed to spend time in the fresh air and to move about instead of just bending pipe cleaners into weird shapes when she got bored. They might not come here every day but Rook figured that twice a week on his days off he could bring Zora here for an hour or two. Thought it seemed the time would mostly be spent just watching her as the toddler had shown no inclination to play catch or Frisbee with him.

Zora, left to her own devices had taken to braiding flower stems together with her small chubby fingers. She hummed a tune she’d heard on the radio earlier and paid little attention to the few others that milled about the park. There were more interested in climbing on the big bright plastic and metal stuff than playing in the grass with her anyways.

"Oh mama, it's so very pretty!" Liesel said, threading her hand through Heloise's. The tiny girl bobbed up and down with restrained happiness, her huge blue eyes shining. Crunch, her ever present Shadow companion was amusing himself melting into and out of the nearby shadows like a puddle.

"I thought you might enjoy the park." Heloise smiled. "Look, there are jungle gyms and swings and..."

"Lookit the meadow!" Liesel sang, interrupting her guardian's explanation.

It must have something to do with being from a fairy tale, Heloise mused. Liesel was completely preoccupied with open meadow spaces, especially if they had flowers in them. She also seemed to enjoy pretty birch groves and babbling brooks. Somehow, the girl always managed to position herself in a space where she looked innocent and charming, almost as if she were posing in a tableaux. "Yes, dear. It's a very nice meadow." Heloise responded with only a slight eye roll. "Look, theres another little girl out there. Why don't you join her?"

The tiny blonde hesitated for a moment, peering across the meadow at Zora. She hadn't made any friends her age yet, and she wasn't entirely sure how to go about it. And yet, Liesel was confident that she was a sweet and pretty little thing so she skipped (never running. Running was not feminine enough) her way over to where Zora sat and stood there a moment, unsure of what to do. "Thats a pretty flower chain." She finally decided on as an opening gambit.

Zora jerked her head up at the sound of a voice directed at her. She stared at the other blonde for a moment before a small smile crossed her face. “Thank you,” she had been working hard on it evening if it meant her fingers getting smelly from when stems broken open and leaked plant blood on her. “Wanna make one?” Zora wouldn’t give up hers, oh no the toddler was not the sort to give things away lightly but there were plenty of flowers in the field , enough for them both to make flower jewelery from. While she hadn't been willing to go play on the playground equipment Zora didn't really want to be alone and this girl felt nice enough to her, weird a little but mostly nice.

Liesel dropped to her knees next to Zora, her skirt spreading out around her just like it should and plucked the nearest flower. She wasn't always the brightest little thing, but she was rarely clumsy and when it came to things like daisy chains she was positively skilled.

"My name is Liesel." Liesel said, smiling at the purple eyed girl. "Your ears are pointy." She added. Not having been out around Gaia much yet, pointy ears were not something she was familiar with. "I like them" She added quickly, so that Zora wouldn't think she was being impolite or making fun. Liesel couldn't stand the idea of anyone thinking she was being mean, even if she wasn't.

Zora smiled at the compliment, she didn't think about her ears much but she was glad that this other girl liked them. "Thank you," it seemed she said that a lot around Liesel. " You have very nice hair." Truth be told Zora was a little jealous of the other blonde's more golden hair. Her own was darker and somewhat coarse to the touch, she bet Liesel's would slide through her fingers. Well it would when they weren't covered in sticky plant blood.

Liesel already had a respectable flower wreath going on, she'd gotten fairly quick at it. Especially after Heloise had taught her to slit the stem with her fingernail and thread the next flower through it. Her cheeks colored a little when Zora complimented her hair. Liesel's hair was the cause of a strange combination of consternation and vanity for her, and she often found herself talking to it as if it were a living thing. Which it really did seem to be, having a mind of it's own as it did.

"Thank you." Seemed the best thing to say as she patted her hair as if to make sure it was still in place. It was, of course. She looked back towards the bench where Heloise had situated herself and saw the grey man watching the two of them. "Is that your father?" Liesel didn't have a father, only a mother. The thought of a father seemed strange to her.

Zora slowly turned her head to face the direction that her new acquaintance pointed in. She stared intently at Rook for a moment, taking in the tall grey form with flashes of crimson jewels embedded in his flesh. He was the one who took care of her, the one she followed and who's magic made her happy, made her feel not icky. With a frown the girl shook her head " No, just Rook." Her father was something else, a hazy memory that gave her headache when she tried to make it clearer. Her past, things before Rook were naught but confusion for her, still she knew he was not her father, they were not blood.

"Who brought you here?" Zora didn't presume anyone had parents, maybe this girl with her golden hair was born from a book or a tree or a mirror. She might live anywhere with anyone. As far as the toddler was concerned Liesel was a mystery in bright wrappings of hair and a taste of magic.

Just Rook. That was an explanation that suited Liesel well and she settled down a little more comfortably. "Heloise brought me. I call her mama, even though she isn't really, because it makes us both happy." Liesel grinned at Zora. It was at that moment that Crunch decided to ooze out of Liesel's shadow, where he had been... resting?

The shadow eyed Zora in a sort of cockeyed fashion for a moment before swiping the daisy chain Liesel had been working on and stuffing it into his "mouth". The little blonde let out a wail of annoyance that seemed well practiced.

"Thats Crunch." She said with a put-upon sigh. "Be careful, he eats everything."

Zora frowned at the little shadowy being, he was a thief who stole things you worked hard on just to eat them. The girl raised her own flower chain out of the creature's reach. "Thank you for telling me," she murmured. " Why's he follow you?" Was her new friend actually secretly bad and thus cursed to have a monster eat everything she tried to make. A strange thought yes but Zora was young and her mind went in many fantastical directions.

With a patience that belied her youth, Liesel ignored the fact that Crunch had eaten her flowers and started a new wreath, not seeming terribly bothered. Though Zora's question did make her pause to think. She turned her vividly blue eyes on the other girl and shrugged. "Don't know why he follows me around... He's just sort of always been there ever since I can remember." Not that Liesel could really remember back all that far. "I think he thinks he's protecting me." She added with a little smile.

"Crunch!" Crunch chimed in importantly, hitting his chest with one paw.

Zora's violet eyes went wide at that " Protecting you from what?" she whispered. If she spoke too loud would the thing that hunted Liesel hear and somehow know where to find her. The young girl also doubted quite strongly that Crunch was going to be good at fending off anything not small and edible. Then again the shadowy being's presence brought the taste of magic to her as well so maybe he was strong than he looked and he sure seemed confident.

Tense now, Zora 's gaze flicked between Liesel and the flower wreath she herself was nearly done making. The toddler really liked this one but she'd sacrifice it to Crunch so he would protect them if there truly something to be feared.

The petite blond shrugged, smiling. She didn't seem terribly concerned. "I'm not sure." She said, then frowned a little. "Probably a wicked witch. I think I'm supposed to be locked up in a tower by one someday."

Immediately Zora stood and stomped her foot "No, it won't happen." Something hot twisted in her gut as the little girl spoke but Zora ignored it. She was making a friend and that friend was magic and had a magic guardian and there would be no taking her away from Zora. Of course now the girl was just standing there awkwardly with the flower wreath in hand unsure of what to do now. She didn't want Liesel gone but she was also opposed to showing much more aggression than she just had.

Part of the blonde had the urge to do something she just couldn't quite remember what and the hot feeling in her stomach was making the little girl genuinely uncomfortable now. " I.." she trailed off unable to gather her thoughts.

Big blue eyes got even bigger at Zora's intense reaction. "It's okay..." She tried to say soothingly. "Even if it happens, I'll be ready. I've been reading a bunch of different stories about Rapunzels, because I'm a Rapunzel. So I know what to expect..." She trailed off, hoping her confident explanation would help even though she didn't feel totally confident in it herself.

" You're a type of people?" Now Zora was confused, Liesel didn't seem that much different that her, not like rook who was obviously a different type of person. Slightly mollified though the violet eyes girl placed her flower wreath on her head and sat back down. Her stomach still felt odd but the heat was subsiding, it let Zora return to her simple thoughts where she was glad Liesel was prepared to stop a witch from hurting her.
