The full moon grins down upon Halloween this night, the second night. A very special night to the Monsters of the world, and those who would embrace the monster that lies within all creatures who feed and grow off FEAR. Tonight is the Moonlight Masque, where everyone can be a Monster underneath the moon.

Marching and dancing through the streets, members of all species are welcomed into the Monster District. In honour of the night, the more human appearing creatures of Halloween deck themselves out in masks and costumes, mimicking scale and horn, tail and wing. Their journey is punctuated and accompanied by howls, growls, yips, and snarls, while laughter remains ever prevalent. The music of the night might be described as "rather gypsy" by human standards, but in truth this is the music that those gypsies strove toward. Caught between a swirling frenzy and a haunting wail, the musicians of Halloween create the music of both dreams and nightmares.

Colored witchlights bob merrily through the night, and grinning jack-o-lanterns lead the way to musicians and bonfires and revels all throughout the Monster District. And at the center of it all, the Great Fire burns. Larger than a house, this fire burns the entirety of the night, and it's the heart of the festival. Spinning and leaping, dancing and tumbling, creatures of every shape and size circle 'round and even within the fire, growing ever more wild and frenzied as the night wears on.

On the outskirts of the fire, tables groan under the weight of refreshments. "Something for everyone!" Is the theme of the food and drink provided, both commonplace and extravagant delicacies are to be found. The amazing abundance and variety is one that can both tempt and sour the appetite in a single glance, so it's best to either examine what you take closely or not at all.

For the students of Amityville Academy, this is a night to be truly be free and wild, many for the first time in their life. Finally away from their parents, not yet fully restricted by the school's rules and curfews, this a heady night for Halloween's young. A night for new meetings, chance reunions, terrible mistakes, anonymous antics, and the simple enjoyment of being young, monstrous, and wild.

Oh man, this costume had officially been the worst idea ever. Shehk was constantly trying to keep her shoes (moccasins, whatever they were jacking called) on her feet and trying to do justice to the diety she was trying to be like 'HAE, I AM AMAZE' in the name of. So far, she just looked like.. well... she felt a little bit like fanservice.

For someone who hardly EVER went around showing off skin (sans FEARleading, but that was a completely different beast), she sure had taken it upon herself to do it at night WHEN IT WAS COLD. Even if she did have a jacket but a;fdjasd;hfadflkj.

Cold. She was undead, her circulation was poor-to-non-existent. She NEEDED heat.

Which was why she'd taken to the bonfire as quickly as she had, taking up as close of a seat as she possible to try and get her body up to proper-functioning temperature. She was sure other undeads would start amassing there soon enough... unless they did better in the cold.

She certainly didn't.

==========

Cricket, on the other hand, had pretty much planted herself at the bonfire, fully aware that at any time some kid was going to attempt some awesome trick and go "MY ARM FELL OFF". That's why she was there.

Her and all of her little babies.

(Good grief, good thing Oogie boogie wasn't still around or she might have had a 'be still my heart' crush going on..).

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.A small figure gazed, unsure, at the dancing figures by the bonfire. Emily wasn't sure if she should be dancing or not. It looked very...wild. Which was the point! Of course! The young witch had known what to expect, just not...quite this.

She shuffled a bit, wondering if she should be dancing too. Her mom hadn't mentioned anything about this, but maybe she hadn't because the answer was really, really obvious?! Emily bit her lip and shuffled a bit more, indecision quickly being overwhelmed with panic. She should have made Mr. Monty come! He always had advice for things like this! Even if it was usually kinda mean.

The witch, deciding to just go for it, began to walk awkwardly toward the dancers. She could do this! She would do this! She would definitely go d-drink some punch! Other people were just standing around drinking punch! Emily could do that too! She could be a champ at drinking punch! The witch practically sprinted to the giant cauldron of punch, and chugged down an entire goblet full without pausing to catch her breath. Yeah! Emily was a total pro.

Feeling a little bit less panicked about what she should be doing, Emily refilled her goblet and happily looked around her once again. What a great party. Punch was just the thing!

Even if it did taste a little funny.

((FEEL FREE TO INCLUDE SOME IC PUNISHMENT, STAFF/TEACHERS, IF YOU FEEL SO INCLINED biggrin

EDIT -- or tell me to change it, if you think it's unrealistic or sumthin >.> I will ttly not be offended.))

Nuk had actually been one of those dancing figures not a few moments beforehand, celebrating the mark of the monster's festival in the best way they knew how. Surrounded on all sides by creatures of every shape and size, he crowed his own war-cry amongst the other growls and howls as he jumped to the beat of the feral music playing in the background, marking the beat on one foot before switching to the other with surprisingly nimble leaps. This was the heart of being a monster, this feral and wild abandon, burning in his chest every moment of every day. Amityville and general Halloweentown society kept him and most others from acting on impulse twenty four seven, demanding order from their chaotic nature, but underneath it all the truth, no matter how supressed, was there. The flickering, serpentine flames from the bonfire cast eerie shadows from the dancers circling round and round the fire, and if you looked close enough, every once in a while the skinwalker's form seemed to flicker into something more, entire body contorted into something monstrous, complete with a twisted, maniacal grin.

Freedom. It felt so good, to let loose, release the pent-up energy that had accumulated from just being at the school and following the rules and all that.

He'd soon left the fire, however, and had made his way over the tables sporting a wide variety of foods for every type of creature imaginable, hands shoved into the pockets of the pinstripe suit he'd picked up for the Masque. Gold eyes glinted with interest at the arrangement as he walked along the long table, occasionally eying something for a few seconds longer before continuing, as if looking for something. It was not until he'd reached the very middle that he stopped, a broad grin curling the corners of his lips in a devilish smirk as his gaze fell upon the punch bowl, the blood-red liquid cascading over the edges of the skull-shaped fountain. Perfect. Reaching into the inner pocket of the suit jacket, Nuk's eyes darted back and forth a few times before revealing a long-necked bottle full of a clear liquid, the label sporting a large black skull and crossbones. Still looking over his shoulder, he unscrewed the cap deftly before leaning forward over it a bit and, pretending like he was collecting a glass, poured in the whole bottle.

He was just about finished when the small, costume-clad reaper made her way to the punch, taking a large step to the side to allow her access and grinning as she began to down the whole goblet, eyebrows raised. Well. This was going better than expected. Tucking the bottle back into his jacket, he reached over to grab two more free goblets, filling them quickly and leaning closer to Emily, giving her an amused look.

"I'd go a little slower on that punch if I were you~"

Tess felt wholly out of place the instant she arrived at the party. She had contemplated on leaving because she was alone and dateless and wasn't there to meet up with anyone. But that seemed like such an improper thing to do, and she'd been raised to do the proper things. Which, in this situation, was apparently to suffer being awkward. Her costume didn't help matters. Some of the students might mistake the horse-shaped ears she had crafted onto a headband as her trying to be a kelpie, which she wasn't as indicated by the small, obviously hand-made trinket trying to pass itself off as a talisman she wore around her neck. (Though she had hoped to run into the only kelpie she knew.) Not that she could blame them. Few students knew what she was in the first place.

Still, she did want to make friends, or at least deal with that annoying, paralyzing feeling that gripped her whenever she was in large gatherings without resorting to fleeing. She had to take a stand (in a manner of speaking) at some point in her unlife. So there she was, hovering by the bonfire, drinking from a goblet filled with her unborn meal using her straw-like tongue. She gave the small group that was gathering by the flames a quick glance and thought she recognized some of them from the dorm.

Shehk noticed her 'date' looming over by the refreshment-table, quirking one brow suspiciously at his antics, before shrugging it off and giving everything a proper look over-, noticing a certain vampire-sub-species (like herself) in this glance over and lifting one arm as a sort of wave towards Tess.

She wasn't really sure if it would be appropriate for her to 'beckon' to her at that point either (given Nuk would probably come over to steal her away at any time), but she did, after a moment of thought, if only to just extend the invitation for company while she waited for the skinwalker to..
...
....

well, finish whatever it was he was actually doing right then.

"Oi!"

The 'wave' was now a 'waving over'.

It wasn't his first Moonlight Masque, but it certainly was the biggest one he had ever went to. After spending a lengthy time deciding what to wear, he put on something that proudly showed what he was and were he came from and, donning the traditional garbs, actually COMBED HIS HAIR and braided it to put it into to the matching accessories. Decked in plaid and cotton, Calder placed the kelpie mask over his face and grinned. True, as a monster he really required no costume at all, but he was often mistaken as a poor sport for appearing human and not participating by dressing up. That and he really did love his mask.

Prancing out of the dorms and to the streets, he was swept up in just how many people where were. The fire was MASSIVE, and the streets were packed. Never in all his time had he been to such a huge event and he felt filled with a brimming excitement to get lost in it all. Among the snarls and growls, a loud, excited whinny cried out with the rest as Calder pranced his way to the Great Fire.

The warm heat of the fire and the spinning, flying circles of everyone passed in a blur of gleaming scales in ember-bright colors, gleaming horns, and flashing teeth. In the mist, he spun about, happily engaging and rushing the fire, around and around, arms out and breathing out as he looked up to see the tiny sparks of the fire fly up the full Moon above. It was like he could just burn up like those little bits of light and lift off. As for dancing, he was rather practiced, having been a naughty boy and running off with a few fauns in the woods by his house to listen to their music and dance till they passed out laughing (or when the fauns decided to chase after nymphets).

Closing his eyes, he would hum the enchanted music to himself, the yowling violins and heart-thudding drums, and spin till he felt too warm to go on. Panting, he broke free from the never-ending circle of dancers, his spot quickly filled, and stepped out, tired but still feeling very much alive.

Thirsty, he skipped lightly to the large cauldron, dipping a goblet in and taking a large cupful, drinking in large mouthfuls before refilling his cup. He wanted to go look around now, check out the refreshments, and see if there were any games. As he walked away from the punch cauldron, sipping his cup, he noticed shapely form he was familiar with. Happy to see someone he knew, he skipped over, moving in front of Shehk.

"Hi there! Nice seeing you again!" he waved enthusiastically in front of her face even though he was close enough, but noticed the mask was in the way. "Oh, forgot." He pulled it up, lifting the kelpie mask on top of his head. "Hiiii!!! Having fun? Why aren't you dancing? Everyone is and it's really fun!" He looked around, seeing no empty cups or set aside masks beside her. "Oh. Are you all alone? That's really sad. Don't you have any friends?" Someone was a little hyper. It seemed big parties were going straight to the head of the country kelpie.

"Devices don't go slow!" Emily announced, taking a long pull from her drink, "and I am a Device. An Emily Device, at that." Her expression under her costume's hood was quite serious, as she stated this. Because it was important. For reasons she couldn't quite recall, right now.

She should be doing something, she just knew it. Emily squinted up at the young man, who was he anyways? He looked familiar. Maybe a student at Amityville? Oh! That's right! This was an introduction! She said she was Emily Device, and now...

"Who are you?"

Wait no, that sounded rude.

"Pleased to meet you?"

Oh no! That was for later! Or earlier! Timing is important!

"Oh! Oh! And whom do I have the pleasure of speaking to?!"

That was it!

With a quiet cough to clear her throat, Emily straightened herself up and repeated in her Confidant Witch Voice, "Whom do I have the pleasure of speaking to?" - not realizing she had been speaking aloud the entire time.

Tess saw someone wave. At first she didn't make anything of it, believing it was someone else beside her who was the target. But then she realized her beating wings weren't hitting anyone, which meant no one was standing or floating or flying beside her. As subtly as she could she glanced on either side of her and when she was sure there were no ghosts or specters or any other intangible student, the winged girl realized she was being called over.

Awkwardly, because Tess still hadn't gotten properly acclimated to her new surroundings, she made her way to the refreshment table, apologizing profusely whenever her wing brushed against someone. She felt a little more relaxed when she spotted Calder standing beside a girl she recognized from the Undead dorms.

"That's a very nice mask, Calder," she smiled at the kelpie, unconsciously gripping her goblet a wee bit tighter, hoping he wouldn't make too much out of her costume. Then she turned to the other girl and her smile turned sheepish, "I've seen you in the dorm but I don't think we've ever been properly introduced? I'm Maritess, but feel free to call me Tess."

"It's nice to see you again as well! It's a lovely night to be out.. if not a little cold."

Oh good, her 'COME HEER PLZ' had been noticed.. as it also seemed she had been, pausing to look at Calder with a light smile (as much 'smiling' as could be deemed appropriate for a creature of the night).

"Ah! I thought I recognized you! I mean, not a lot of students around here to mistake, but.." IT'S NOT LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE HAD THEIR LEGS WALK OFF.. but she wouldn't say that, "it seemed like a good chance to finally talk, hmm? I mean... I'm pretty sure we live on the same floor." There weren't a lot of undeads to be stuck between the suave 'VAMPIRES' of old-lore and the 'UNDEAD'. Not to say either of them were at a loss for the opportunity to be high-ranking undead... well, Shehk was (with the face-stitching, but the unique subspecies made up for it, right? RIGHT?? Paranoia, go!). "I'm Shehk."

She paused to look around, tempted to inch closer to the WARM. But no, she'd stick around, for the most part.

"Sort of wish it was warmer at night... cold does nothing for my stiff muscles." WHICH HAD ENOUGH FUNCTIONING ISSUES WITHOUT THE COLD, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Though this did give her a segway to answer a certain Kelpie gi-..bo-..IT with. "I'm sure it would warm me up to go dance around, but unfortunately..." she looked at the fire itself and shuddered..the same way anybody subconciously terrified of something would.

"Well, Fire is unpredictable and I don't really..mix well with it." she explained, before looking to Tess as though seeking back-up on it.

Certainly a fellow undead would know how fire and themselves didn't get along.

Though she had spent the past few days painstakingly creating her outfit and though she was very excited about the whole idea of a giant party, Belladonna just couldn't shake that nagging feeling that she didn't belong. Sure, she'd taken a stroll through the Monster District with her family before and of course she'd met a few very nice monsters before this, but it didn't much help that they were all... Not like her. Coming from a family (and well, race) that was heavily into "Being Just Like Your Race", it was hard to shake that notion, no matter how much Belladonna hated it.

Now that she was at the party, walking closer and feeling the chill bite at her exposed midsection, she seriously started doubting her costume. When the Masque had first been announced, dressing up like a werewolf was a good idea! The fur would keep her warm and constructing a wolf's head to wear on her own head had been a fun foray into the world of costuming. But Belladonna had quickly run out of fur after finishing the head and had to make do with what she had remaining, which meant her backside was only just covered and she had to borrow her wolf feet shoes from her older sister Delphinium! (That had been embarrassing as Delphinium was the biggest b***h about letting anyone borrow her things, especially when she started making fun of Belladonna's less than creative costume.)

But not of that mattered now. Right now, in this moment, Belladonna was approaching others, she was within warmth distance of the huge fire and she could see the refreshment table. And, was that Calder? The giant horse head sure seemed like something he'd wear. Taking a deep calming breath and letting out a low growl to imitate the creature she was dressed as, Belladonna strode confidently forward toward the group. Or, erm, as confidently as one could stride when one was pretending to be something they certainly were not.

Valentino put on his mask, it wasn't very much, but in all honesty, he had no idea what the night was to entail. He had heard from some other new students about the night where everyone dressed up and visited the monster district, but being here, with all the cavorting students, it was a very unique experience for him. Valentino had been mostly cooped up in his lab, he was still trying to find the perfect blood to water ratio for his plants, they were getting hungrier by the day.

He felt a little naked though without his bag, he didn't want to lose anyone, so he decided to leave everyone at the lab. After a few minutes of being lost, Valentino found the bonfire where everyone was gathering. There was a girl drinking punch as if there was no tomorrow, a few other students stood out as well. Val spotted the upper half of a vampire, an undead student who seemed to have more habitual ticks than the real ones on Belladonna's pelt.

Walking up to Belladonna, he tried to interrupt her stalking and growling of a masked student, "Did you get a chance to fumigate that costume?"

Tess had to agree with Shehk about the cold as she was more accustomed to balmy weather. Well, it was balmy in the small corner of Tess' hometown.

"Good to meet you," Tess bobbed in mid-air, as if her entire body nodded. Shehk needn't worry about Tess disagreeing about fire. The manananggal had an aversion to them herself, as most (if not all) undead had. She gave Calder a grim smile, confirming what the other girl said. "Fire is much nicer from a distance. The only time I enjoy it up close is if there is glass between me and the flame," She looked thoughtful then absently added, "But other bodies that aren't mine can do in a pinch."

At the sound of a growl, Tess turned towards the direction it came from, and saw someone dressed as a werewolf approach. And shortly after her arrival was a masked student. Unconsciously, Tess' wings began to beat a little faster, lifting her up a little higher. She gave the two a quick nod of her head, unsure what to say as they seemed to know each other and she didn't want to intrude.

Partly because it was rude, and Tess still couldn't shake off the manners her parents had drilled into her, and partly because what was there for her to say other than her name and ask if they too, were cold, or if she was in the way of the food. And speaking of food, "I haven't seen this much food before, not even during fiestas."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. She stumbled into the party. She was so busy trying to pull her shirt and skirt down that she was tripping over nearly everything and sometimes, nothing! Her outfit was too damned small! Why did that screamstress make her outfit child sized? Of course, the old hag had said that it was the new trend. Sexy and scary. Rain had the feeling she had been picked on. There was nothing scary about this particular outfit. In fact, it was awkward at best. Still, the hag had gotten Gargantuan's likeness pretty well. She admired that giant beast of a student and hoped he would appreciate her less-than-subtle compliment.

Maybe it was his fault for not wearing more clothes. Maybe it was her fault for wearing her favorite pair of pink panties with such a short skirt. What was she thinking? This night was doomed to be humiliating. Maybe it was the old hag's fault for making her feel so vulnerable. She hated it but had to admit, it did make her feel a little sexy. She was thankful that she wasn't stitched up or falling apart like some zombies. Her body was pretty well intact for being dead and the bandages added a little comfort. She always felt at home in bandages. They were restricting but not overly so. It was like they were giving her body reassuring little hugs. Was she mad? Maybe. Look what she was wearing. Ug! What had she been thinking? If she could blush, she'd be red now instead of blue.

Abandoning the battle with her clothes, she stormed over to the table and poured herself some punch, barely taking notice of the students around her. After a few quick -- and rather large gulps --, she poured herself another drink and paused momentarily to study her environment. She admired the monster costume that one girl was wearing. It had a little bow at the waist. Now see? That was cute and scary. Her screamstress got it right. Rain felt more than a little jealous.

She was feeling a little less nervous as the seconds began to tick away. Everyone had such amazing costumes. Some were overly elegant while others simple and stylish. Why had she doubted coming? This was.. spectacular. Was that the right word? She had spent too much of her unlife avoiding social events so this was a new world to her. She wanted to go dance but wasn't quite that comfortable yet.

She finished her second drink. It tasted odd but didn't most things taste odd? She'd have to purge the contents of her stomach later. She hated that ritual but her body didn't digest things properly, especially those not of the flesh. Oh, she could go for some brain pudding right about now! Or some guts souffle! Food always calmed her down. Funny though, this drink was calming her down too. Drinks didn't usually do that. She poured herself a third and brought it slowy to her nose. Zombies had a keen sense of smell and it didn't take long before she realized the punch had been spiked.

Who had done it? While she may not digest things as well as others, her body was still soaking up the alcohol slowly but surely. If she ever found out who, she'd have to thank him or her.

Sipping her drink now, she turned back to the party goers. She couldn't quite tell who was behind some of the costumes and that bothered her a little.

"Yeah, that is a lot of food." Shehk agreed with Tess, looking at the table (and feeling her own stomach throw a fit). Man, she would probably need to make a point to find something a little more..ah.. on the bloody side sometime within the week. Damn if feeding wasn't a complicated process when her body was still trying to make up it's damn mind (..okay, she only had ONE brain in her body, but it was a figure of speech, right?) as to what it wanted.

Besides squirrels. Always squirrels. If a squirrel had run by right then she would have gone running after it screaming 'COME BACK, I WANT TO EAT YOOOUUUUUUU' to never be found again. Damn if she'd try not too let that canine instinct take her over in the middle of company, however.

"I mean, it makes sense since I'm sure at least one boy will think with their stomach and camp out over here to their heart's content." she added with a slight laugh. Sadly, she could imagine at least one student in their student body who would have been thus inclined.

Even if his name completely skipped her mi-... Ohae...

It seemed, ironically, SOMEONE had dressed as said student as Shehk noticed yet another fellow undead by the table. Oh, dammit.. name.. NAMMEEEEE. Note to self: Mentally nametag EVERYBODY.

But it seemed Shehk was, somewhat, intent on it turning into an undead-party, as she waved to Rain now as well.

"Won't complain about the company... for the most part.." her last comment earned this -look- cast in Nukpana's direc-..afasfj;fsdaf. Helookedsoniceinpinstripes. But she at least was nice enough to not visually drool.
