Achal sat on the prides borders looking out over the lands. He was a little bored at the moment. The pride did not get many passers through, most who came stayed, but Achal was usually to busy to really talk to them. He greeted them and helped the males adjust to being pad, giving advice and helping them find dens. He was a kind, gentle and hardworking pad, though he had quite a soft spot for lazing about in his free time. Now was one of those time. He was sorely wishing someone would come by with who he could just chat for a while before the newcomer moved on, or even stayed.

Qahwa, unaware the he was obliging the wishes of a pridal lion, was making his way through the lands surrounding the Ukuucha'Wafalme. He had never been to this part of the land, but he had been warned by fellow travelers of its dangers. They were relatively few for a male like himself. Even a leopard wouldn't find himself too troubled by the pridelanders. It was only females who had to be concerned, and Qahwa definitely was not that. Just the same, he was wary of encountering any of the pridelanders. They were said to be fiercely possessive of their females, and if he was deemed a threat...Well, he would do his best not to look threatening.

Achal smiled noticing an outside headed to toward the pride's borders and pondered his good luck. It was amazing to have one desires answered so quickly.

Achal rose making his presence known and headed toward the brown feline. He wasn't sure he ever seen another like him, but he was sure he wasn't a lion. He sort of reminded him or Maua and he wondered if the other was a leopard.

"Hello," he called out to the stranger.

Princess_Feylin
Qahwa stood still upon hearing a male voice call out, presumably to him. There was no one else around for the lion to address. Even with his ears laid flat along his skull, Qahwa was pretty certain that there had been no threat and no warning in the lion's voice. He could live with that.

He turned his head, and then his body in the lion's direction, sending his pale gold gaze up and down the larger feline. Lions didn't exactly make Qahwa uncomfortable unless they were hostile, but he didn't think this one was. Yet. If he could keep it that way, he'd be fine. Good manners would do much to further that end.

"Hello," he called back. Then, to get it out of the way, he said, "I have not hunted here or on your lands, and I have no intention of doing so."

Achal was taken slightly aback, by the males words and frowned for a moment. He wondered why the male would be worried about hunting, but he pushed the thought aside.

"It is quite alright if you hunt here, just as long as you do not take more than you need. I am sure it will do not harm."

Achal smiled slightly, as he reached the male, "I am Achal, it is very nice to meet you."

Princess_Feylin
Qahwa smiled to himself. "That is good to know. I was merely making sure that no one would mistake me for a threat. Certainly, a leopard like me could never pose a threat to lions, but some people don't seem to see it that way."

That was about as blatantly as he could put it. Clearly this lion had never lived for any length of time outside of his pride, or else he would know how touchy some prides got about people hunting even near their lands. Being a leopard, he was frequently ignored or discounted by these prides because of his inferior size, but he'd learned to be cautious anyway. His past had taught him that.

"It's nice to meet you, Achal. I'm Qahwa."

Achal nodded, "That makes sense, but we recieve many new member and we would not wish to quell any desired to join, by denying them a hunt in our lands. Though I am different and others might not see it that way. I am sure however, the Sultan, our leader would not mind."

Achal had lived most of his life outside the pride, but he'd never come to close to many pride borders and he would never know true worry of being a real threat to another pride.

"Qahwa is a very nice name. Might I ask where you are coming from?"

Princess_Feylin
Qahwa shook his head. "Well, I have no intention of becoming part of your pride."

It was best to get that out of the way quickly. He would never have anything to do with prides. He had been born into a strictly regimented group of leopards who had enforced their rules and their hierarchy with violent enthusiasm. He had been only too happy when he was exiled and told that if he returned he would be destroyed. That was the word they had used. Destroyed. It had turned him off the idea of prides.

"I come from nowhere and everywhere," Qahwa said vaguely. "I travel a lot. This is the first time I've ever made it this far, though. The land is interesting, from what I've seen of it."

Achal was not at all surprised he did not want to join. He new that pridal life was not for everyone one. One of his previous mates was also not the pridal type, but he had not minded. He had three of the cubs that resulted from the litter and they seemed to being doing well in the pride.

Achal grinned slightly hearing the leopars answer. "I traveled all the time, when my sisters were old enough, before I joined this pride. The lands outside the pride are no where near a lovely as the inside, though yes the entire area is very interesting."

Achal looked over the land and smiled with much pride. He was so very happy he had the pride as his home.

Princess_Feylin
The lion had traveled? That surprised Qahwa. How had he managed to avoid the suspicious prides if that was the case? Perhaps there was more prejudice out there than the bitter leopard had originally thought. It wouldn't surprise him, though it did disappoint him a little. It would be nice to find a good place where he could feel comfortable and at home. Maybe with a pretty bit of fluff or two to keep him company nights.

"Your sisters, are they part of the pride?" Qahwa asked. He didn't know enough about the Ukuucha to say what their rules were, but he'd been under the impression - mostly gotten from hearsay - that a lion's females couldn't be related to him. Maybe he was wrong.

"I'll take your word for it," he said. "And stay outside the borders as much as I'm able to. I don't want to get anyone's dander up."

Achal looked sad for a moment when he the leopard asked of his sisters. "No they are not a part of the pride, just myself. My sisters and my eldest daughter live where we grew up in the rogue lands. I miss them, but I think that they are just fine where they are for now. I think it should be there choice whether they will to join a pride or not."

He smiled once more, but his frown returned after a few moment. "Many of the males in the pride would never force a female to join, but that is not so for all and it would not be against the pride rules to force them. Here males a superior, though I do not really believe that. The females are happy though, so I am content. My own banu love me dear and I love them so very much as well."

Princess_Feylin
Qahwa's eyes widened in surprise when Achal mentioned having a daughter. An eldest daughter, actually, which meant there were others who were younger. The leopard would not have guessed that the lion was so old. But then, Qahwa had gotten a late start when it came to females, and not everyone lived his life. Very few people had, in fact.

"That's unusual, isn't it?" he asked. "I thought your pride was all about keeping its females close to the den."

Banu. That was an unfamiliar word, but using context clues Qahwa could guess that it meant a claimed female, perhaps. Qahwa couldn't stop himself from thinking that females who seemed to love males didn't always, and that it could sometimes be an act they put on for their own reasons, but he didn't share this bitter revelation. It wasn't his job to bring rain into people's sunny days.

Achal laughed, "Yes it is unusual for a female to be outside the pride, but they are most certainly not kept close to the den. They hunt, and mingle by the lake and take their cubs on excursions. Even thought they are not allowed to leave, most do not want to or at least I have heard otherwise."

Achal smiled brightly, "But my eldest daughter is adopted. I found her when I was an adolescent and she was not born inside the pride, the same as I. I raised her with my sister. Also she is a serval, not that it matters to me. She is my daughter, for now and always."

Princess_Feylin
Qahwa shrugged. He had no opinions one way or the other on what a female's place was in the order of the world. He'd met too many and varied females to place them all into one category, though he was generally incline to think that they were more likely to be seductresses and betrayers than not.

"My mistake," he said. "No offense meant, of course."

Obsequiousness annoyed Qahwa, but being injured annoyed him more. He didn't think he'd be staying in this land very long, even though it was lovely. Of course it was lovely. That was why there was a pride there. They had the might and the numbers to claim it permanently and defend it at need. Something Qahwa had not known since he was much younger.

"I see." Qahwa did not see. A serval? He had never had much use for the smaller cats, though he didn't mind them. He would never claim one as a son or daughter, though.

Achal laughed, he had wanted a stranger to know of the outside world but he mostly talked of his pride and there ways. He wondered if he was becoming self centered, but pushed the thought aside, knowing everyone had their moments to be selfish.

"No mistake here, simple curiosity warrents no appologizes. You were not rude or cruel in any way."

Achal stood wondering what life was like for the leopard, he semmed so guarded. "If you would like I could escort you to the otherside our lands. You will not be bothered if you are with me and you will be able to see the pridelands than be away from it as fast as you like."

Princess_Feylin
Qahwa shook his head. Achal was friendly, and his offer seemed to be in earnest, but Qahwa knew better than to expose himself to things he could want but not have. There were enough things in his life to embitter him. He didn't need to add to that list.

"I thank you for your offer, but it would be best if I went my own way." He didn't sound regretful as he spoke, mostly because he wasn't. There was no reason to torment himself.

"In truth, I had best be on my way. There was a place I was meant to reach some days ago," he lied effortlessly. "A beautiful bit of fur said she'd wait for me there, but she didn't say for how long. You'll understand, of course?"

He didn't much care if Achal understood or not. He was going to make his departure before he fell in love with this beautiful land where he could never make a life for himself. It was his nature to be covetous, and then bitter when denied, and he knew that about himself.

Achal nodded knowing all about those day, he'd had two litter that had come of those days.

"I wish you good luck in your travels. Maybe you will be able to visit again in the future," he called after retreating leopard.

It was interesting to see how the conversation he so desired for a escape from his life showed him how much he truly loved his home. Sighing he turned and headed back to his den and his waiting family.

Princess_Feylin
Qahwa paused to call over his shoulder, "Perhaps." He didn't think it was likely, however.

He scowled as he walked away, his face hidden. This land was too beautiful, he thought, and it would be too easy to fall in love with it. Briefly he entertained the notion of seeking out a place near the pridelands and setting himself up in a tiny home, but he dismissed it with a vicious shake of his head. That would never happen. It was clearly claimed by lions, and Qahwa didn't get along very well with lions, and they didn't tend to get along well with him, though there were exceptions.

Achal had seemed like a nice lion, and Qahwa would have liked to get to know him better, but he knew that would only lead to disappointment. When he did make friends, he wanted to make friends he could keep. He couldn't really be friends with a lion. Not in this setting. He would always be the social inferior, at least around other lions, and he would not live that life again. Better to leave now, before he could form attachments.

"Thank you," he said softly as he walked away, knowing it wouldn't be heard. Good manners were important.
