AMITYVILLE ACADEMY ENROLMENT FORMName: Evander Nicknames: -- Gender: Male Age: 15
Faction/Race Demon - Archon
Personality: Instead of beings of pure good like angels, archons are beings of pure justice - good and evil are irrelevant, so long as justice is served. Back in The Day, they were feared for their ruthless efficiency ... but more recently, there has been less demand for heartless smitings in the name of order, and so many archons have turned to other professions. But when Evander's parents brought their little lamp of justice into the world, he seemed possessed of an unexpectedly old-fashioned and rigid mindset. He is extremely straight-laced and naturally staunchly unwilling to break any laws or rules. He also has a tendency to judge everyone, which of course wins him few friends, but a fair amount of the time, his nose is stuck too high up in the air to care much. He will offer help when it seems the proper thing to do, though, and can be counted on for his honesty and will always repay his debts. Though he experiences loneliness, Evander conceals it well, and considers it one of his own flaws ... and, well, is just accepting of that as he is of the flaws in others. Along with his high-and-mighty attitude, the archon also considers it beneath him to get into petty fights and arguments - in fact, anyone who would confront Evander physically to try to take him down a peg may get little more than condescending sneers from the archon as they stuff him into a locker. Often coming off as a brown-noser due to being a stickler for rules as well as being honest and a diligent worker, Evander does not like to feel like he is wasting his time; there are just a lot of things that fit into that category. His natural desire for order in all things also makes him decidedly obsessive-compulsive, though Evander sees nothing pathological in how clean and organized all of his spaces are.
Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy? Long ago, the archons were known for smiting those guilty of crimes, regardless of the reasoning - justice had to be served no matter what the cost. In the time since those days of old, some of the archons have gone to follow or to aid decidedly good or evil masters, and some have found their own way, but all have retained an instinctive desire to keep things organized and structured. Evander's parents ended up in Halloween town as organizers, taking bureaucratic jobs that required all fingers and limbs attached. Financially well-off as some of the tight-fisted ministers of Halloween Town, the two archons could have sent their son to any school they wanted, and settled on Amityville Academy to ensure that the school was functioning like proper clockwork - this is not just education for Evander in the traditional sense, but his folks expect him to learn how to root out corruption and inefficiency now.
And so, part student and part inspector-spy for his neurotically vigilant parents, Evander hopes to live up to their every expectation, smiting tests as he ensures that the school functions smoothly as a place of learning.
FEAR: If Evander evokes his FEAR power while touching or hitting an opponent, a red mark like wet ink or blood appears somewhere on the target's hand. This mark causes a feeling of great guilt, remorse, or fear of punishment in the target, and may be either relating to some specific action committed recently, or just a general anxiety. This feeling lasts until the target scrubs the mark off. At lower levels, of course, wiping it off on clothing is not terribly difficult (and the spot, being magical, quickly vanishes once it has been removed, and does not even require a stain stick), but as Evander learns to better control his power, it may take a soliloquy and some elbow grease to get rid of that damn spot.
Physical Description: Eye Colour: Red Hair Colour/Style: Long and a little wavy; White with black tips Skin Colour: White and shiny like frosted metal or polished stone Clothing Style/Colours: White, gold, and crimson, and sort of ancient Greek in style. Something that would leave him at least partly bare-chested, if that's allowed in school, or at least leaves his arms free, but also has long flowing skirts. Bit of light armor. Extra: Red feathered wings, and five horns around his head like a crown. Also some sort of Visual kei-esque red eye makeup References: sketch idea | tektek'd

#A::
- SPECIE:: Archon xxxxxCommon Desc: Though these winged beings generally appear beautiful and dressed in the flowing robes of angels, they are quite unlike them. They are creatures of pure justice, with an urge to follow rules themselves, and well as to punish transgressions in others. As neither "good" nor "evil", archons usually sport features of both traditional angels and demons in some combination. They tend to be rigid, stubborn, aloof, stern, and uncreative, but an archon will always honor his debts and agreements. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Minor retribution: If an archon takes a punch or hit, he can return some of the energy as an ephemeral push at the attacker. This does not work with any FEAR abilities - it is more for regular hits - and the shoves back cannot do damage unless the archon somehow manages to shove his opponent into something. It is meant as more of a deterrent than anything else, and can only be used if the archon has taken a blow.
... Maybe? =O I'd love to see other archons =3=

I love the idea of an Archon in the Halloween setting! The concept is just fascinating, and has a lot of potential for bringing something unique into the RP. With the way that the world of Halloween has evolved from the chaotic little town depicted in the movie to the relatively more orderly world it is in present-day, I'm really interested to see what sort of roles Archons might fulfill in society.
I found myself wondering more about Evander's parents, though, and what the differences between the generations are. You mention that they really want him to find friends - but the reason he doesn't have friends seems to be because of his attitude and rule-mongering, right? Is this something that his parents might have experienced as well, or were they never as rigid as he was? Do they have a different definition of justice from their son, maybe, or are they merely not so intent on pursuing it?

I think like, Archons were definite outsiders to the Halloween world, but some of them found their way there at some point because maybe they got to liking instilling the fear of punishment into their targets more and more. Or maybe they thought they could impose some sort of order there, too. In my head, Evander's parents came for the latter reason, but found the place of crawling monsters, animated objects and reanimated corpses, and randomly detaching body parts to be too chaotic even for them. So they had to settle in, make nice with the locals, and while it's like living in a place that is not 100% desirable, they've learned to enjoy it. And then little Evander is all 100% stick up his a** JUSTICE MAN, and they're like, "This will only lead to disappointment. Kid needs friends". Justice is all well and good but order in Halloween Town? That might be a lost cause.

I don't know if I'd agree with that statement, actually. There's lots of ways that order has been imposed in Halloween. Consider that, instead of someone going and getting lost in the woods and finding a bunch of doors that leads to other worlds, you now have to have a passport to leave Halloween. There's a formal education system; there's the Bogeymen which enforce the law; there's a currency system, etc. There is an order there, it's just not a conventional one. Even though things can seem outwardly chaotic, there's a lot of order behind (which is constantly growing, it seems) which I think local Archons could adapt well to. They'd still likely be outcasts, especially in the case of immigrant Archons like Evander's parents, but there is a niche available that gives a foothold for the cause of order. It's a thought, anyway!

Hi there, this is the Critting Ghoul speaking. I am here to smash your dreams asunder!
No, not really. But I am here to give you crit! Enjoy!
- ----
First question on judgement! How does he view common place things such as homosexuality and interspecies romance? Does it disgust him because it breaks the laws of nature, or is it something he's somehow okay with? If he is against it, would he go out of his way to prevent them from being together? Would he allow himself to fall in love with/enjoy the company of someone not his general faction? (ae: Love a monster, an undead ) or would his mind never allow such a thing? And if it actually did occur, how would he handle it? Denial? Hatred? Eventually acceptance?
I do like how he tries to hide his loneliness, but how obvious is it to others? Does he give out signs without meaning to, or is he actually pretty good at making sure no one else knows? Are there times when he's driven to attempt contact with someone, even if it's very brief and doesn't end well? Would he regret such a thing, or would he simply never mention it (should he actually do it).
OCD SHOULD BE CDO WHAT ARE YOU THINKING. It's always fun to see a character with a good quirk that sometimes can make them fun to pick on. Has anyone ever taken advantage of his desire for order just to drive him insane?
--
The reason for coming to Amityville is both a bit unique and a little bit typical - it seems like a lot of kids are being sent to the school on their parents wishes. Would Evander have wanted to come on his own accord if given the option, or was he forced? If he gets bored with the school and his eventual ambitions, would he even stay? What's keeping him here other than his parents?

FEAR sounds okay to me, but then again I'm crap with that kind of thing (sorry).
Other than the typical flight for all of his kind, does he have another ability that is natural?

I'm not sure how he would handle things like homosexuality and interspecies romance, but that's something I think I'd like to leave up to RP if I get him. How he gets along with the other characters involved might shape his opinions somewhat, and I think it would be more fun to see how all of that plays out rather than determining now how that will go. I suspect he will be a bit resistant to the idea just because he is generally sort of narrow-minded, but it may or may not change. I'm also not really thinking about love for him right now - trust me, I know it'll be an issue for him when it comes up, but like I said, I want to cross that bridge when he comes to it xd
And I think like he probably radiates lonely to those who are genre-savvy enough to recognize those sorts of signs, if that makes sense? I totally plan to play Evander's stick-up-the-a** attitude for laughs, so if it makes sense for other characters to pick up on things like him pushing everyone away because he's so lonely, then I am totally up for playing that straight or for the lulz. Evander himself is too self-absorbed to know that he is giving off signs - it might be subconscious, but definitely not consciously on purpose.
If other people want to bug him by being messy or nudging things out of their proper places, I would be totally game for that. Don't think teasing is something he's had to experience too much before, though; I imagine Evander probably being home-schooled before the Academy, at which point his parents realized they couldn't do much more for him on their own. They are probably kind of fastidious about their little boy, too - even if they are more open-minded than Evander himself, they are still Archons.
Evander wants to stay in school so he can conquer his classes and be awesome at them. Quitting is for sissies!
And for natural abilities, I think they only get one? Either way, since I am sort of creating the Archons, I think I want to leave them with just flight as a definite natural ability, and if anyone else wants to make an Archon, leave their other quirks and powers up to them? I pondered through several sort of JUSTICE POWAR-type abilities, and settled on the idea that any one of them might make a better FEAR power than a blanket natural ability.

I think that what Rown meant there is that winged characters are all supposed to have an unspoken natural ability that is (reasonable) flight; much like a legged character is supposed to be able to, well, walk. It is only an ability with winged characters if they do it exceptionally well/fast or something. So if you want to keep flight as an Archon's natural ability, you might consider some less modest version. Remember all Archons share that ability, and no Archon can have a different one (which means you are limiting all other potential members of that race to naturally do the equivalent of walking). smile

The headmistress shifted uncomfortably in her seat once again, before finally swiveling to glare at the Bin. It was just sitting there, but...Hellma snarled, "I do not know what it is you do right now, but you are indeed doing something. Cease immediately."
The Acceptance Bin just sat there.
Staring back at her.
Judging her.
"Bah!"
