Yes, I know the name is long. Just like Shibuya kei, Shimokitaza kei is music that originated in the Shimokitaza region in Japan. It is usually downbeat, very chill type of music. Artists include Fishmans, Sugar Plant and Spangle Call Lilli-Line. Anyone into this type of stuff? Here are some songs. More to come soon! 'Rise' by Sugar Plant'Walking in the Rhythm' by Fishmans * warning, over 12 minutes long!

The Sugar Plant song I thought was overwrought droning, a problem that a lot of downbeat songs tend to have, but I found it to be excessive. Not that repetitiveness is really a bad thing, a lot of these types of songs are just for background music if you're lounging in a club. I'd just like some mixing during that droning. The Fishmans was more of my style. They seem to have some Caribbean/ska sound style fused in that song.
Thanks for posting those! I'll try to look for some music to upload and share.

Yeah, Fishmans are nuts. They are no more because the singer passed away. I can't find any info on that however.
As for Sugar Plant, yeah, it's repetitive... very roundabout but I still like it. The first few minutes are excellent but after a while I admit it gets boring. I use it to fall asleep, actually.

There's one more group that I know of - Spangle Call Lilli Line. A lot of people seem to like them... they have a female vocalist. I've actually never heard them but I did download one album. I'll have to take a gander at it one of these days. When I do I'll post results. 3nodding

I haven't heard them. And I still haven't heard Spangle Call Lilli Line, even though I'm sure they're in the genre. I think I will listen to them now.

They were alright. Less funky than Fishmans and more upbeat than Sugar Plant. They would appeal more to a mainstream audience. Want me to upload a song?
I can't stop listening to Walking in the Rhythm.
