Nettle had said that he could stick around as long as he fed the monstrosity that now lived in his clearing. That meant that Peeper had to go out every day and find enough leaves to fill the thing's belly. It took a while, and he had to range further and further out to find enough leaves. Bleeding Heart wasn't even willing to help him all that much. It left Peeper lecturing the leaves as they bounced out of his way from each big mouthful he jumped up and grabbed. Of course, the lecture was kind of muffled by the fact that his mouth was full of leaves each time, but he didn't think that the leaves-- or the tree-- minded.

As Soul Drift steps into a small clearing-- a break in the thicker foliage of the Swamp, anyway, he spots a very pink buck gathering fallen leaves. He doesn't quite understand why his mouth is stuffed full of them-- it certainly doesn't see like he's trying to eat them (and why any kimeti would want to eat such dried out leaves anyway, he doesn't know). He tilts his head curiously, watching as the equally pink mongoose nearby chatters a little but does nothing to help it's owner. Stepping a little closer, Soul watches as even more leaves flutter around, and the pink buck chases them down before catching and stuffing a few more into his mouth. "What are you doing?" He finally asks, bewilderment clear in the tone of his voice.

Peeper huffs a sigh out of his nose. It's still so deep that it sends all the leaves flying out of his mouth. At least he can stomp them down carefully enough not to ruin them or let them escape, but still. "Trying to feed a turtle. Hi. My name's Peeper. Who're you, and what brings you here?" The leaves here are the easiest to gather, often falling before they are more than a little past their peak of freshness. The turtle doesn't seem to mind the fact that they have fallen naturally, anyway, so Peeper takes it as a way to make the overwhelming process easier.

"Why are you trying to do that?" Soul Drift certainly doesn't see a turtle nearby. Unless it's hiding someplace? "Where's the turtle at? Wouldn't it just be easier to bring it here and let it eat?" At least, that seems the easiest way to him. "My name's Soul Drift. I was just walking this way when I found you here. I'm heading toward the ocean."

"Noooo, it's much too big to try to get it here, honestly, and I already did that once with it because it was actually a gift for this really awesome friend of mine except I have to feed it which I kind of understand because you would not believe how much this thing eats." He nudges the piles of leaves together and sits, planting his hindquarters down and smiling cheerfully at Soul Drift. "Oh, the ocean, huh? How far is it from here, do you know which way to go? I don't." But he wouldn't mind learning -- after all, if he has to go find another gift because he's done something stupid, surely the ocean is a good way to go about it.

Soul laughs softly at the other's very animated explanation, and looks down at the pile of leaves. Why anyone would go through so much trouble for such a pet, he doesn't know, but imagines that this friend must indeed be special to Peeper for him to go through so much trouble. "It certainly does seem to eat a lot... how in the world are you going to be able to carry enough leaves back to that turtle?" he asks, a hint of an amused smile on his face as he looks back at the rather pink buck. "I've been to the ocean once before, though, yes. There was a doe I met along the way the first time who spoke about some sort of clan that lives near there... I don't know about living there, though I'd like to see it again." He tilts his head, remembering how the place had looked. "There's a lot of seaweed there. It constantly washes up on the shore... I bet your turtle would eat seaweed."

. "Oh, well, it's my friend's turtle." But he was thinking about it. "How far is it to the ocean?" If it wasn't to far and he could manage the trip, maybe it is more feasible. How heavy could this seaweed sttuff actually be? Of course, he probably couldn't do it today, because he still had to feed the damn thing. (He'd stopped calling it Crush; now it was just That Damn Thing.) But directions would be nice, if he did decide to do it.

"Hm..." Soul Drift thinks about this for a moment. He's already been walking for quite a ways already, a few days anyway, but then.. he was very far from the ocean to begin with, and knows he is much closer now. "I don't know if it might be out of your way or not, but it's really not all that far. Perhaps a half-day for me, though I have the tendency of traveling rather slowly at times. You could probably get there much sooner if you wished to." Soul enjoys observing the landscape as he goes when he's not in a hurry to be someplace, but his memory for directions is rather good, not that the ocean is very hard to miss. "Just keep heading south, in that direction," he tilts his head to indicate where, "and you'll find it. You may smell the ocean before you see it, but once you do it's only a small ways away."

Peeper is not all that distractable when it comes to thiings for his Nettle. "Huh." It's all he says for a minute, thinking about the logistics of the idea. "Well, maybe after I've fed it today, I'll give iit a try." No matter what, unless he's sure the thing will eat what he brings, he'll have to feed That Damn Thing. Peeper brightens at a thought. "Maybe I'll meet you on the way. I'd like that."

"Well, perhaps I can help you gather leaves to feed it? I'm not in such a terrible hurry, after all." And even if he were, Soul would likely still offer the help. "Two can do more work than one, right?" At least, this seems reasonable to him. Between the two of them, they could gather and carry far more leaves back for the turtle to eat. "Besides, I'd enjoy the company, if you do plan on coming along, anyway."

Peeper considers the offer seriously, tails lashing hard enough to sweep some dead leaves into his pile. "Well, I sure wouldn't mind help gathering the leaves, but my Nettle's not so hot with other kimeti." Probably why he doesn't mind Crunch as much as he might; it's another kind of insulation. "Maybe help me gather them up and move 'em to the clearing, and I'll handle it from there?" He tips. His head inquisitively at Soul Drift.

"Sure," Soul nods at that. He doesn't really seem to mind that fact that Nettle might be less than.. friendly toward him, anyway. He's met all kinds of kimeti before, and he honestly doesn't mind helping however he might be able to. He moves about, picking up the freshest looking of the fallen leaves, and drops them into the pile that had already been forming. And with two of them working, instead of just one, the pile grows all the more quickly.

Of course, Nettle being not so hot about other kimeti is something of an understatement. Peeper surveys the pile of leaves and grins at Soul Drift. "That ought to be enough for now." He gathers them up carefully, helped finally by Bleeding Heart (who otherwise detests Crunch) so that he can bring them to Crunch in one careful trip. With the leaves close enough for the turtle to get to comfortably, he waits for Bleeding Heart to jump up into the trees around Crunch's little area and then frisks back out to find Soul Drift. "Okay!" (Sorry. Major infection/surgery/crap has exploded in my life.)

Soul waits for Peeper to return after the necessarily leaves have been gathered up and brought to the turtle. It doesn't take very long, and when he spots the pink, fluffy buck returning, he smiles a little and nods. "It's still early in the day, so if we travel a little quicker than I normally might.. I think you should be able to get back home soon after nightfall." He turns in the direction of the ocean, south, and begins to lead the way. But Soul is rather curious by nature, and can't help but to ask, "So, why exactly do you have a turtle as a pet anyway? Especially if it's such a pain to take care of." ((It's alright, I understand. I hope you get better D: ))

"Well, Crunch was actually a gift to my Nettle." He frisks along with Soul Drift, going at a leisurely pace that will cover ground easily. "See, the first time I brought him flowers, but they were this awful bright blue that clashed terribly with his colors, and he was understandably upset." Peeper tosses his head. "So I had to go and find him the biggest, best possible present to make up for it. And at first I thought it would be flowers, but flowers just weren't enough. Every time I thought I'd found the right ones, they just weren't enough, so I kept going and going... "And eventually I came across this one kimeti and he suggested some kind of reptile and then I came across Crunch and you wouldn't believe how hard it was to get it from where I found him to my Nettle's clearing."
