"...Hm." Kaia sighed out simply, closing her silver eyes for a moment before opening them to look around herself. She'd left a few months back, just up and disappeared without a word to anyone but her two sons, Kupe and Chop. She had desperately needed a break from her new family life, tired of being confined to one area, that area being near the borders of The Bamboo Tribe, for so long. With the children grown and off on their own, she felt the need to stretch her legs, and that's exactly what she did.
Without telling Koji.
The vixen had to admit, leaving without telling her mate had been a horrible idea, she not realizing it until she had gone and traveled well away from 'her lands'. A few months later and ta-da. Here she was, back near the borders of the all too familiar tribe where her brother and mate resided. "I'm sorry, Koji.. I-.. Ugh." Kaia mumbled softly out loud to no one in particular, talking to herself as she tried to figure out what to do.

Koji had finally become depressed. Not just a little depressed but flow blown out depression. He had stopped eating and taking care of himself. He had become very skinny. His ribs where showing through his fur.His fur was a mess. There was dirt clumped in it, knots the size of rat's nests and blood from this and that. Meeting his half brother had made him feel little better for a little while but hearing how Rendo's mate left him and he was finding a new one. He hadn't seen his mate or two oldest kids and was beginning to think them dead or Kaia had moved on and found someone new. He was pretty much now in a self-destruction mode.

Kaia was then hit with a familiar scent, just barely in the air, but still there! Someone she knew all too well.. It had to be Koji or one of their kids! Scrambling to her feet from her resting position near 'her' den a bit off the tribe's territory, she started off, pushing her way through stalks of bamboo and various plants before nearly running over another fox.
Wait. That scent was coming from this fox. Looking the stranger over, she allowed a small frown to crawl over her maw. This was not one of her sons, and certainly not her daughter. Then was this her mate, Koji? No, it couldn't be. This fox looked ragged and worn out. No one in Bamboo would have been allowed to fall into this state, right?
"Ko.. Koji?"

Koji heard a voice but didn't move. His ears flicked to show that he had heard but he didn't move. He had finally given up. He knew his kids had asked the members to keep an eye on him and so others where always calling his name. Him being hopelessly in love with Kaia was always hoping she would come back. He didn't dare to hope no more.

The female looked down at the male, taking a step back as she took in his appearance. Seeing his ears flick in response to her question made her give a small, very unexpected whimper. This was Koji. What on earth had happened while she had been gone?! "Koji." Kaia started, moving closer and giving him a gentle bop on the nose with her own. "Koji, it's me, dear." She then laid herself down beside him, lightly licking at his cheek, smoothing out the fur a little. "It's Kaia."
Pulling her muzzle away from him, she bit gently at her own lip with a fang. She wanted to know badly what had happened to him. Giving a slight sniff at the air, searching for any of her children's scents, she let out a breath. It seemed they'd left. "I'm back."

Koji hadn't been paying to much attention to the sound of the voice or their movement. He was inside the tribe lands and figured he would be safe from something that might harm him. So he was just staring out into space until suddenly another nose touched his. His instincts kicked in and he jerked back. Or at least he attempted to. What ended up happening was he pulled back at a mild speed and let out a small moan in pain. He hadn't been eatting right and hardly moved any more so his muscles weren't strong. As a result to his muscles not being as strong as they were he was really weak and ended up falling back to the ground.

Startled by his reaction to her touch to his nose, Kaia flinched, but kept her spot beside him. She wasn't leaving him anytime soon. Flicking her ears back against her head at his pained moan, she curled her slender tail around him, hoping to offer some comfort. "Dear, it's okay.." Beginning to gently groom her mate, much like a mother cat would with it's kitten, she let out a discontent sigh. This wasn't good. At all! Inwardly, the female had the feeling that this was somehow attached to her leaving so many months ago. It had to be her fault.
"I'm-.. I'm gonna go and find you something to eat. And water too. Something to make you better." Kaia didn't really know the first thing about caring for someone like this, so malnourished and weak. Sure, the various cuts and bruises her kits had received while doing who knows what had given her a little experience, but she hadn't seen anyone this bad. But she did know how to hunt, and where water was in the area. And her den was near the border, taking care of a place for him to rest later on. Surely all of that would help, even just a little.

Looking up to see who it was that had found him and decided to touch him. His eyes fell onto Kaia's spirit. Or so that's what he thought. He gave her a small smile and tried to speak "Hi Ka.." was all he got out before he stated to cough. He moved to get up again but more slowly this time while asking "It's time to go to the light right?"without waiting for an answer "Of course it is that's why you have came back to me." He moved to follow her to the end still thinking that this was a ghost.

Turning to seek out something for her mate to eat and drink down, the vixen's fur bristled as she heard a cough and a thump as Koji fell to the ground. "Th-the light?.." Kaia asked with a confused look on her face, ears perked up in question before they flicked back in realization... Oh, that light. No, no, no! No. She was not about to let him die while she was still alive and kicking. Caught up in her thoughts, the male rising back up and starting to follow after her caused Kaia to blink in surprise. Her mouth formed into a small frown once again as she made her way over to him in order to confront her mate. "No, Koji." She said sternly, the tone of voice very unusual coming from this particular female. "I did come back, but you're not dying! Please believe me!"
Stuck in the middle of this strange situation, Kaia took a second to think before putting a new plan into action. "It's not your time to go!" She barked out loudly, suddenly throwing herself at him and aiming a snap of her teeth at his ruff. Something to get him to realize things could go back to the way they were before she left. Back to normal! Thrashing her head to and fro as she bit at him, Kaia released her grip, pushing off of him and landing nearby panting. "Spirits wouldn't attack you!"

Koji whimper in pain as he was shook some. He slumped back to the ground and mumbled "Your right a spirit wouldn't do that but neither would my Kaia." He became grumpy now. Thinking it was something or someone playing a trick on his mind. "What do you want from me?" He asked.

This was starting to get tiresome! She gave a short growl as she watched him slump down to the ground once again. Kaia swiveled her ears back in disappointment as she looked down at Koji, thinking over what he said.
"Your right a spirit wouldn't do that but neither would my Kaia."
But she just did! Argh! Man, this was frustrating. "I want you to realize that I'm not a spirit." She replied, giving a stern glare at him before giving a swipe at the ground in a fit. "That I'm Kaia!" Not knowing what to do, the vixen turned around an ran, frustrated over the whole situation.. but also afraid of Koji's state of health. Conflicted over what to do, she slowed her run down to a slow walk, then began to pace aimlessly as she tried to figure out a way to convince her mate. 'No, no, no! Kaia.. Don't...' By now she was on the verge of tears, biting down on her bottom lip and going back and forth at a faster pace.

Koji picked up himself and stumbled after the vixen almost as if he was drunk. He didn't want her to feel bad wither they were real or not. "Come back please,"He called softly trying to run but failing.

Turning her head the sound of someone else and their odd footsteps, Kaia spotted Koji a bit away from her current spot, trying to run towards her apparently but not succeeding much.. How on earth did he manage to come after her in his weakened state? She couldn't help but put aside her thoughts and scramble towards him, giving him a gentle brush of her cheek against his when she grew close enough. "I'm sorry.. I won't leave again." She said with a frown, more at herself than anything else, then sighed. "I dunno what else to do to try and convince you that I'm Kaia."
Aha! "Only I would know that we have four kids: Chop, Kupe, Higure, and Shinya. And that I have an older brother named Shukaku. He didn't like you that much when I first introduced you two, did he?"

Koji laid his head on her shoulder closing his eyes. Even if it really wasn't Kaia he didnt really care at the moment. He felt a bit better. Koji nodded weekly as Kaia talked. In a raspy voice he said "Yeah he wanted my head." he than sat down feeling week. He had exerted himself to much but didn't care. "My Kai finally came back to me"

Finally. "Aha, he did, dear." Allowing herself to give a soft laugh and a sigh of relief at his words, Kaia nuzzled at her mate's darker fur slowly. He must have been exhausted, even from just that small distance she'd ran just a moment ago. Any normal fox would have been able to trek through that with ease, even when moving so quickly and avoiding the occasional obstacle that the lands of the Bamboo Tribe threw at you. Giving him one last nuzzle, she then pulled back, making sure not to let him fall when she did. She'd never seen Koji this weak before! "And yeah.. I did." Kaia added, smiling at the male before giving a look around them.
My, they were close to her den. "D'you think you could managed to walk just a bit further? My den is close by, and if we can get you there, you can rest all you want." Giving him a once over with her eyes, she felt unsure about the answer to that question of hers. Would she be able to carry him or something if it came to that?
