Wykla sent Boreal to scout ahead. She's slipped away from her chores again and gone into hiding. Exploring the back tunnels was much more exciting than washing dishes. Her hand slid across the wall and she held a small glow in front of her.
What would she find? A tunnel snake probably would brave here. It wasn't like Melvren was as old as those northern Weyrs. She pretended she was an explorer in a cave system. Entering it somewhere from the wilds to delve into it's depths. Ahead she hear Boreal chitter as the tunnel split.
Which direction? Choices, choices. Like what she didn't have at the Weyr. She reached the fork and looks at her flit. "Well? Any ideas?" The stream of chatter from the bronze made her smirk. Of course, he had ideas. However, the choice was hers. Lifting the glow, Wykla peered first down the left tunnel and then down the right tunnel.

Zeren was beside himself, he'd been searching for his Green flit all day, well ... as much between lessons and chores as he could, he had hurried his last chore and set off to look for her, he tried to call her, his other two tried to call her but she either didn't want to reply .. or couldn't. A chirrup from Grym startled him out of his thoughts, and he was glad since he'd been thinking the worst, the Blue flit was scarred from his attack but luckily was still able to fly fairly well, though he got tired more easily than other blues he'd seen.
It seemed that Grym had found something and Zeren hurried to him, almost tripping on the remains of a fairly average sized tunnel snake "Shards Viska, again?!" he muttered, spying a trail of snake ...remains and disturbance, back, deep into the back tunnels.
After a while he couldn't see much and cursed himself for not grabbing a glow, although he followed the bright eyes of Grym (Mud, the very lazy Brown firmly curled around his neck) .. he kept tripping on rocks and other things in the dark he couldn't see. Still he couldn't see any sign of Viska, and Grym seemed to have pretty much lost her trail "VISKAAAA!!!" he called, his shout echoing though the tunnels.

Wykla jumped as a voice echoed down the tunnels. Her heart started pounding a mile a minute. "Shards! Who was that? Are they looking for us Boreal?" She knew the bronze could go look, but that would give them away. Looking left then right, she tried to pick the tunnel the voice hadn't come down. It was very hard to tell since she stood right at an intersection. Well they'd go left. She started down the tunnel with Boreal fluttering by and cheeping.

Grym flitted off down a tunnel that seemed to be lighter than the others, following behind Zeren's heart raced, "Viska you've really done it now" he said with a sigh. Suddenly Grym started to get (semi) excited, like he did when there was another flit around, taking off towards the lighter end of the tunnel Zeren called for the green again "Viskaaa!!" coming to a halt as he bumped into someone else, a girl, younger than him. "OH!" he exclaimed almost in tears that it wasn't Viska.

Wykla paused when she thought she heard talking up ahead of her. How many were down here actually? It was strange, she almost never ran into anyone while down here. What were.... Wykla never got to finish the thought as something bumped into her from behind. "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" She shrieked in surprise and jumped back. Her glow fell to the floor and rolled away slowly."
Boreal chittered indignantly at the boy. How dare he scare his girl!

Zeren shook, the Flit chittered and the girl had screamed. "i'm s...s..sorry, i was looking for my green flitter, she came to hunt tunnel snakes and now she's gone" he said, his voice cracking, Grym settled on his shoulder, edging the brown to the other shoulder. Zeren's hands went up either side to stroke the two without him really noticing. He moved towards the glow to pick it up for the girl. "I'm really sorry i crashed into you" he said with his head held low. He just wanted to find Viska and get back.

She was stunned by his sudden appearance. It should have been obvious to her that anyone.... or anything.. could sneak up on her with how dark it was down here. Her mouth moved, but nothing came out. She swallowed hard and tried again. "Oh, I haven't seen a green around. Boreal would have told me." Noticing the scolding the bronze was giving the boy, she called him to her shoulder.
Privately, Wykla was... not surprised but something similar, perhaps grateful he apologized. She heard his voice crack and took a closer look at him. "I'm sorry you lost your flit." Her thoughts turn for a moment, if she lost Boreal and the bronze gave a reassuring hum.
She started to flush when he retrieved her glow. Who else would have done that for a thirteen turn old girl? That flush proceeded into a full on blush. "Ah, its ok. It is really dark here. Um, I'm Wykla. If you'd like, I could help you find her.

Zeren bit his lip a little "I .... He's a nice flit" he said quietly, his mind going back to when he'd found his flits, "I'll...i'll never call her a pest again" he mumbled, just wanting to find her.
He handed the girl her glow, "You would?!" he said, perking up a little "She's average for a Green, but she'll follow a Tunnel snake until she's caught it, but she's never been gone this long" he said, getting worried, what if she'd gone outside the Weyr, if something had happened to her he would never forgive himself.

"Thank you. His name is Boreal." She looked curiously at him and his flits. "What is your name? And theirs? How many do you have?" She thought his others should be able to help find his missing green, but her help was already offered.
Slowly she took her glow back. Seeing his reaction she nodded. If someone offered to help find Boreal, she wouldn't turn them down. "Yeah sure. It's just the two of us. Hmmmm." How did you find a flit chasing tunnel snakes? Her head turned just a little 'til she looked at Boreal out of the corner of her eye. "Boreal, call."
The bronze sat on his girl's shoulder, cheeping and chattering at the other two. At Wykla's command, he sat up on his back legs with a front foot lightly clasping her ear. His neck extended and swelled as he sent out a locating call. It reverberated down the halls as Boreal cocked his head to listen.

Zeren blushed a tiny bit, unseen in the dark (hopefuly) "my name's Zeren, these are Grym" he pointed to the blue "and Mud" gesturing the brown "and then there's Viska, who is missing, i have those three" he said smiling just a little "Grym has been trying to help but he lost her trail somewhere" he sighed.
Zeren wondered what Wykla had meant when she told her flit to 'call' but he soon found out, "that's a clever trick to teach him" he whispered after the call faded away, almost missing a faint cheep in reply "VISKA!" he yeled running down the tunnel he thought the cheep had come from, bashing into rocks and whatnot along the way, since he'd left the glow with Wykla. He stumbled and sat panting, unable to go much further into the gloom without a light.

"Nice to meet you Zeren, Grym, and Mud." If she noticed the blush, she didn't show any signs. She tried to stifle a small giggle when she got to naming the brown. Wonder what he did to get named that? "Oh. Well at least he tried and got this far. These back caves are complex."
She was listening intently too, after the flit's call died down. "Thanks," she whispered back. Boreal could make a lot of noise sometimes so Wykla decided to put it to use. When Zeren made a mad dash down the dark corridor she gave a small meep. Quickly she ran after him. Holding up the glow so they could both see and avoid stepping on stuff. "You really should have brought a glow lamp down here."

He'd barely registered her words before he'd ran off, but now, sore and close to tears, he was glad someone else was around, even if it was a girl.
He was relieved when she showed up with the glow, giving her a slightly sheepish look "i know, but i was worried about Viska, and i didn/t think she'd be THIS far" he said, calling to the flit again, "VISKAA!!" but he received no reply, "Do you think....your flit could find her?" he asked, "Grym gets moody and Mud, well he's lazy" he said panting, not noticing the slight graze on his cheek, for the moment adrenaline overcame the small amount of pain. Another faint cheep could be heard, though it was closer this time, Viska lay not far away but a small rockfall had trapped her wing and (for once) sensibly she hadn't moved, so it wasn't badly damaged, just trapped.

She tried to keep up with him. Short legs didn't help with that much.
Wykla nodded. "I know, but for future reference.... bring one just in case you need it." She walked so they could both see. It was strange having someone down here with her besides Boreal. Someone who wasn't out after her either.
She pursed her lips considering. Was Boreal up to it? She'd never done anything like this before with him. Stopping for a moment, she pulled the flit off her shoulder to look into his eyes. "Boreal, can you find her? Lead us to her."
He cocked his head to listen. This was important. His wanted him to do something important. His head tilted the other way and he cheeped. With a flutter of wings he took off from her hands and went between.

Zeren sighed as Boreal went between "we can't follow him Between Wykla" he said with another sigh, stroking Grym on the cheek, "Could you follow Grym?" he asked, not expecting much, and as he'd thought, they Blue just hissed.
"Wait...i think i hear something this way!" he said, heading off, slower than before to let Wykla keep up. Hopefully they'd find the green soon, and then they could head out of the tunnels, he didn't like tunnels, they could cave in. He shuddered terribly at the thought, dislodging the brown and the blue sitting on his shoulders.

Wykla frowned, just what was Boreal up to? "I know." After a moment she blinked. "Zeren, I think he went to find her. He has to know where she is to find a route there for us." She looked at the hissing blue. Nope, no help there.
The slower pace made it easier for her to keep up. She scanned up and down the tunnel for her flit. What was taking so long? Would he be able to discover a way to the green?
Boreal popped in next to the trapped green. He crooned to her; yes, he'd found her! Now to get back to His and the boy. Laboriously he flapped down the tunnels.
Close to five minutes later, he appeared out of the dark. Proud of himself at having gotten back he trilled. He knew the way!
