Cat paced nervously around his classroom as he waited for his next student to arrive. He wasn't anxious because she was a little bit late; to be honest, he never really stressed about when the spawn arrived. As long as they did it sometime during the day, he could make time. No, he was nervous because his foretelling dream had been unusually vague. Normally he could very easily get a feel for what he would need to instruct his pupil, but... blood magic?

That notion alone unnerved the gentle Eilian a little, but what was more distressing was the fact that he didn't know if this girl could control her blood or the blood of someone else and if it was specific to only one type or what. He could tell from the dream that regardless, the blood needed to be outside of a body, which if anything only made everything more nerve-wracking. He had acquired a syringe and (if for whatever reason that didn't work) a small blade that he would only use on himself if that's what it came to, but despite all of these official accouterments, his nerves sang. The fact remained that Cat was not a medical professional in any sense, and he had no idea how much blood to take without harming someone.

So he paced, watched the clock, and worried. Unfortunately for the nervous teacher, he could only wait until the girl arrived before he could resolve his worries.

In all honesty, Nina wasn't sure what to expect at all with a spirituality class. It was a given that she had never attended one before, but she also hadn't the opportunity to question anyone about the procedures. Ephron hadn't a clue, which wasn't much of a surprise considering how inept he was at magic, among other things. With a slight shiver, she realized that the only other person she knew of that had attended a class like this was Cody, and she didn't really want to remember that right now.

Okay, so she didn't know very many people with any magical ability. The idea of it was enough to make her eager to learn, but uneasiness settled in when she thought about how little she knew, how a class like that worked. Would she be completely unprepared? Did she need to know what she wanted to learn, or her own strengths and weaknesses? She could admit, without hesitation, that she knew very little about herself, and probably didn't want to know everything about herself anyway.

Inhaling, she shook her head slightly, as if she were knocking the thoughts out of her head. There wasn't any note sent to the house about anything she needed, so chances were good that she'd be fine. Besides, she was already at the door to the classroom, her hand reaching out for the knob... Can't turn back to grab anything now anyway, so better make the best of it, she confirmed to herself before entering.

Too much worry for nothing, as it was apparent her nervousness was placed on the wrong part of the class. She frowned slightly in tense curiosity as she saw the tail-end of the pacing her teacher appeared to have been doing. Setting her teeth, she steadied herself before introducing, "Hello, I'm Nina." She knew she probably didn't need to say all that, unless Cat had been waiting for more than one student, but always felt more comfortable if she did. Fumbling slightly with the sides of her scarf, she decided that it would probably be better to wait for direction before doing anything else with herself.

Cat's back had been to the door when Nina entered the classroom, and so he jumped slightly when the quiet girl introduced herself. He whirled around quickly, but kept his expression warm as he walked behind her and shut the door. "Hello Nina. I've been expecting you. My name is Cat, and I'll be teaching you today.

Now, I'm sure you're wondering what in the heck a Spirituality class is, am I right?"
Cat asked as he walked back to the front of the classroom, smile still a little tense with nerves. "Well, to put it bluntly, it's a magic class. You see, you spawn are all born with a unique magical talent, and once you reach a certain age, you'll be coming here every-so-often to learn about it and practice it. It'll just be the basics today, but as you grow older and practice more, you can start learning how to do more complicated things." He nodded once, traditional speech over with. His wings fluttered nervously as he turned around, bringing out both the syringe and the knife.

"And here's where we run into a bit of an issue, Nina. You see, your magic allows to manipulate blood, but only blood that is outside of the body. And unfortunately, I was unable to learn whether it was just your own blood, just someone else's blood, or if it didn't matter. This means that we will have to get some blood out of at least one of us." Cat sat the menacing instruments back down on his desk and then turned back to Nina, expression grave for this matter he considered serious. "Now, if we have to use the knife, I'll only use it on myself, so my thinking was that we would each draw blood, put it in a bowl-" here he indicated two plastic bowls he'd labeled 'Me' and 'Nina' "-and see what happens. Does that sound alright with you? If it's too scary, you can just tell me, and we'll figure something else out."

Well, he seemed to have hit the nail on the head. Nina flinched slightly at the first question that was posed to her, a mild smile creeping onto her face. "I suppose most people don't know what sort of class this is on their first day, huh?" she asked, feeling relieved at the thought. So, she wasn't alone after all. She used the smile to add, "It's nice to meet you, Cat!"

However, she didn't miss the strain in her teacher's smile. Her own faltered slightly at it, wondering if she should be feeling just as tense about it as well. Worrying too much about it again... You don't need to be like that, she told herself, shaking her hands a bit to get rid of the bundled nerves. Classes were never bad in the past, so it's not like they'd start at it now. She just needed to take everything one step at a time, and she'd be just fine. How bad could it be, after all?

She nodded at the general explanation for the class. Her grin broadened as she responded with an off-handed, "Sounds like fun!" Well, seems when she pushed her own worries out of her mind, she started forgetting about the worries of those around her. She was aware of it, but she was ignoring it at this point.

At least, she was until the instruments were pulled out. Her heart skipped a beat, relating them to the labs, and the techs. She clenched her hands, bracing herself defensively for a moment before her frown turned into confusion. This... Her magic was blood-related? She paused for a moment, feeling concerned more than worried. She loosely brought her hands together, absently tracing at some scars that were left along her right hand, consequences of frustration and talon length she was not yet used to. Ears tilting back a little, she confirmed, "No, it's okay. I'm not scared, I just wasn't expecting it." She tried smiling again, but it seemed a little off as she was trying to prove to herself that she didn't have much to fear.

In fact, this could turn out pretty cool. Nodding to her thoughts, the smile came that much easier. "So, we're both going to use the needle?" she asked. Seemed kinda weird, but... can't be afraid to get her feet wet now!

Even though Nina tried to disguise her fear, Cat could see that she was nervous, and he quietly empathized. It had been years and years since Cat had seen any more bloodshed than a nosebleed, and he certainly wasn't excited to see any more. But he had to do this for the sake of the class, so he would suck it up and go for it. At the spawn's question, he smiled a little shakily and nodded, grabbing the needle and the rest of the medical equipment. "Yup, that's what we'll be doing. If you'll wait a moment, I'll go first."

Cat took an unsteady breath as he tied the tourniquet around his arm, clenching and unclenching his fist for a few minutes. When the vein made itself apparent, he took another reassuring breath, and then slid the needle in. He winced at the pain, but looked towards his student and smiled; no need to worry her more. He watched the blood flow into the vial, and when it was full, he removed the needle carefully and dumped the vial into the 'Me' bowl. His hand was clamped around the wound as he scrambled for a bandage, wrapping it tightly around his arm.

"There, that wasn't so hard," Cat said with a smile, glancing towards the rare spawn. "So, now it's your turn, young lady. It'll be okay, I promise, just give me your arm. Then this'll be over and we can get onto the actual magic part of the class." He smiled warmly, probably just as eager to get there as she was.
