SENIOR YEAR BABY!!!!

...except it wasn't supposed to start off like this. How the hell she got wrangled into volunteering to help little runty Freshman was beyond her?! Ellie was staring rather intensely at the wall, like she was trying to summon some magical lazer eyesight so she could burn some holes through the brick.

The blonde tomboy was mourning the fact she was at school and not at home working on the Vortex. Instead, she was supposed to basically act as a tour guide for some freshman. She'd rather be hanging out with Jared or Zuniga. Not with this...

The girl glanced over the paper she had been given.

Coralie Williams

With a heavy sigh, the tomboy finally stood herself up and went into the auditorium. It was crowded with Freshman and mentoring Seniors, all scattered about. The bleachers had giant paper banners across the back walls labeling the groupings in alphabetical order (by last name). Pushing her way past a large crowd, Ellie found her way to the section labeled W. She took a deep breath, then announced her victim as loud as she could.

"EY! CORALIE WILLIAMS!" Being so tall, she didn't have to try very hard to locate whoever it was coming her way. Whoever stood up and began to make her way to the blonde was obviously this Coralie Williams.

When Coralie had first asked her newly-dubbed 'Uncle Perry' what schools were in the area, there had really only been two options: Crystal Academy for Girls, and Meadowview High. There were several reasons that the pigtailed girl wanted to give Crystal as far a berth as possible, though all she had to do was wail over the cost of tuition to said school to silence any objection Perry might have had...though he had none as far as that! There was what seemed like a token protest due to the fact he was a teacher at said establishment, but Allie simply reminded him that they weren't blood relatives! It wasn't at all fishy!

So Coralie had enrolled herself in the local public high school, spent two weeks absorbing as much English as she could fit into her tiny little head, and had proudly donned the absolutely hideous clash of muddy red that was the Meadowview High uniform. There had been a fast and dirty internal debate about her hairstyle, but it had remained with only the addition of small cream bows at the base of each rabbit-shaped bun. She was the only one left in the entire world with this hairstyle, the only one who knew what it meant, and who it really belonged to. No, Allie wasn't about to callously abandon her hairstyle; especially not a day when she desperately needed some bit of normalcy.

Normalcy almost up and smacked her in the face at the fates' choice of mentor, however. The quick dinner with Ellie Spectre hadn't been forgotten, nor had the sizzle of spices on her poor abused tongue. Some burns never quite healed, and that was one of them! Ruby eyes had gone wide, then with a great effort, simply turned to shy curiosity in the desperate need to look as squeaky fresh as possible. "I am Coralie Williams. It is nice to meet you." It was too bad that her English was still almost painfully formal. Would Ellie recognize her? Remember Blanche?

It surprised Allie quite a bit to realize she hoped it would come up!

The blonde stood there with her hands behind the back of her head, waiting for the girl to step forward. She spotted two random peaks of pink stepping forward from the group, though at first, that was all the tomboy could see. It was almost like a pink rabbit's ears sticking out. When the smaller girl stepped forward, without thinking about it, Ellie simply uttered "Dude, yer short."

Oh yes, Ellie Spectre was infamous for speaking without thinking about what she was going to say. In fact...

"...what's with girls and pink hair these days? God, I'm meetin' too many kids these days with pink hair..." Gold eyes rolled slightly before she finally lowered her hands from where they were resting. If Ellie had been considerate, she might have leaned forward so she was on a more equal level with Coralie. Such was not the sort of thing the senior would do. Since they were meeting for the first time, Ellie's right hand was thrust out in the girl's direction for a "proper greeting" (also known as a handshake).

"Name's Ellie Spectre, kiddo. Be prepared fer 4 years of imprisonment!" The tomboy grinned and let out a chuckle, signaling that her words were more meant as a joke than anything else. She gave the shorter girl a quick up and down, and in all honesty, the only label she could come up with this kid was one word: Girly. Casually, the tall girl began to turn away, signaling with the same hand she had used to shake for the girl to follow.

"Let's get this over with, kid!"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 03, 2010 11:07 pm

Girly wouldn't have been the insult to Coralie that it was for Ellie, in fact she would have welcomed it! The pearl bracelet that had been purchased as soon as the punch in her gut had faded from seeing it was laying lightly on the girl's wrist; the tiny gold moons in the same shape of her family's sigil were unmistakable. The bows were unarguably feminine, as was the large purse that was serving as her backpack for the day. 'Blanche' had had more than a few serviceable pieces in her belongings that Coralie was more than willing to reuse.

The short comment, however, had her holding back a rolling of eyes. At least there hadn't been any rabbit comments yet, and that was more than the teen could say for most of her life's experiences. The nickname bestowed upon her by Rubeus had haunted the princess throughout most experiences of meeting strangers. "Yes, it is because I am foreign. We are not so very lucky, like you! The pink I was born with." It made no sense, really, how a blond woman and a dark-haired man would produce a child with shockingly pink hair. Neo-Queen Serenity had always attributed it to 'moon magic'. As she got older, Chibiusa had assumed this meant she was adopted; untrue of course.

Taking Ellie's hand in a quick shake, the girl trotted to keep up with the senior's longer strides. It was damn inconvenient, being short and fifteen again! Blanche hadn't had to trot and keep up with Ellie, but Allie had to. Some people had all the luck, didn't they? That thought brought a rather wry smile to Allie's lips as she looked up and asked her question. "It is not a good school?" That was curious. Perry worked here, and didn't seem to treat it like a punishment or a prison. No, that was the Hillworth school across town. So what was wrong with Meadowview? Apparently, some nuances of humor were yet lost on this girl!

"We...?" For a moment, her head spun around to acknowledge the pink-haired girl. "What, ya got a turd in yer pocket or somethin'?" Rolling her shoulders into a shrug, Ellie turned back to pay attention to where she was going. Perhaps if she had been more feminine, she might have talked further on the hair color subject. No matter what poor Coralie said, it was already stuck in Ellie's head that the girl had dyed her hair, no matter what she said.

For a moment, it had seemed like the blonde of the pairing hadn't even noticed the shorter girl's rather pressing question, continuing to walk until they had reached a door. Ellie pushed it open, then paused at the door, still facing away, but holding the door open so the kid could follow her out. It wasn't anything exciting. The door simply led to the hallway. Once Coralie passed through, Ellie let go, allowing the door to close itself.

About five steps after making it into the hallway, the tomboy finally replied. "I'd be lyin' if I said this was a good school. Then again, all schools are a bunch'a crap if ya ask me!" High school was a necessity, it wasn't a hobby or something one enjoyed. Sure, there were small things that made it more tolerable, like auto and metal shop, but overall, it was just another learning facility and another way to keep teenagers in check.

Speaking of making high school tolerable...

"...So, what sorts'a things do ya like doin', kid? Hobbies an' crap..." It was greatly going to affect how the tour went, after all.

Having absolutely zero idea what a turd was or why she might have one in her pocket, Allie simply stuck hands in hers and felt nothing but the cell phone that was still programmed in Japanese. No, that could not be a turd, it was a cell phone and she knew it. Damn this English, and all its odd words! Thankfully she'd met Ellie before and could keep up with that odd speech pattern as well, or poor Coralie would have been horribly lost beyond all hope of rescue. Apparently there was someone out there looking out for poor Coralie Williams...finally.

"I like to cook, because I like to eat. I ah, run a lot? Video games are my very best though. I spent a lot of time playing with those." Not as much as she'd like anymore, as it was very hard to explain to Perry why she needed a tv in her room, and she couldn't really just go out and buy one. He was her guardian now, so he made the rules. Sure, she could have circumnavigated him with ease being that she snuck out the window every night to patrol and could easily do that with a television, but it just felt wrong. Sneaking out to help protect Destiny City was noble. Sneaking a tv in to feed her hobbies was absolutely not.

"Do you play them? I admit it is not easy a lot because they are all in English, but I do have a few in Japanese still!" The anti-learning attitude was something that Allie actually understood well. After all, Usagi had rather been the poster-child for it! Thankfully, this was one place where the daughter of the Moon Princess took from her father instead. Chibiusa had always been concerned with keeping up with her studies, even voluntarily hopping into more complex things to keep her mind honed and occupied. It was one reason she'd picked up English so quickly, though the language was lost in the 30th century.

Mentally, Ellie took notes as to the girl's likes. Cooking meant a trip to the Home Ec room. At least it was a chick who wanted to go there. It wasn't like the Baking Fairy, aka Quasar, liking cooking. Running meant maybe this girl wanted to try out for track, so stopping off at the field would be good. The mention of video games really didn't have a place in school. Closest thing was the computer lab, but they didn't really have any computer games loaded aside from the default Solitare and Minesweeper.

"Alright, so I guess we should head t'Home Ec..." Lifting a hand, she ruffled through her own hair before glancing to Miss Rabbit-ears. "So, like, do ya go by a nickname or somethin'? Coralie jus' reminds me too much of that dumb movie Coraline." Tact, Ellie lacked it.

With a gesture of the hand, she signaled that regardless, Coralie should follow her. They turned right in the hallway, and soon enough another door was visible at the end of the hallway. It led outside.

"I ain't addicted to'em. I play some FPS and racin' games, but that's 'bout it. My friend, Jared. Oh god! He's addicted. I think he has about 150 different games at his place. All types. He wants t'be a game tester when he gets outta high school." Typical male dream job right there. Getting paid to play video games.

Once more, when they got to the door, Ellie pushed it open and held it open in her slightly backwards way, allowing her little freshman pass through as she needed.

Well, if anything, Allie was going to walk out of Meadowview with an accurate student representation of the place. It wasn't like those sometimes scary achievers who tried to sell the idea that school was the utopian nirvana of the teenager experience, she knew better. It was certainly a social and learning tool, but it wasn't something that was really carried by the establishment itself. After all, for most of her life, Tsukino Chiba Usagi had been home schooled!

At mention of a nickname, there was an easy smile as she passed through the held door with a quick thanks. "Allie for short." It was really the name of a small street, between places, but it was something that Chibiusa had felt was good for her. She was small and between places, certainly! "What is Home Ec?" The home caused no issues in her syntax, but the Ec part was new and not at all familiar to the poor foreign kid. "Plus I like fantasy games. Princesses, knights, saving the day. Final Fantasy?" They'd been pushing the advertisements for the newest, and Blanche had rocketed through it in record time.

Then, she'd started at the beginning, gobbling up as much as she could. Currently she was wading through the land of Midgar, with poor Aerith taking a sword through the back from the evil Sephiroth. Really, who came up with those names?! Pulling herself from the brief reverie, the pink-haired girl desperately tried to make sense of where they were going. Finding the Science and English departments would be easy, she'd spent some time there. But not all of her classes were in those areas of the building, and the poor girl had a feeling she'd quickly be lost in the twists and turns.

"Allie..." Ellie seemed to be testing it out on her tongue, judging whether or not it worked for her. It would have been cool to call a girl "Al" like a guy, but considering the girl she'd have to consider calling "Al," it just didn't seem possible. Pink haired Al did not seem to work for Ellie on any level. Rather easily, the tomboy was able to take the lead again, taking advantage of her long legs.

Rather than explain what the words meant, the blonde simply explained her ignorant understanding of the class. "Home Ec is a class where ya cook and bake sh*t. Ain't my sorta deal in all honesty. I get all my cooking and baking skills from my mom."

Ellie's mom could burn ready-made pizza. Ellie's family ate out a lot.

When the girl mentioned her preference in video games, the blonde's golden eyes rolled a bit. "Ya know, I'm not surprised yer th'type t'like who likes those sorts of games. Too time consumin'! I'd rather be doin' somethin' instead'a pretendin' t'do somethin'." Sure, the occasional race game or FPS was still pretending, but Ellie also raced her vehicle frequently enough on the town. "I'd rather be buildin' somethin', makin' somethin' I'll be proud of fer years t'come... no offense," it was a rarity for the senior to actually take the time to say something so considerate, "...but a save file ain't exactly somethin' I can show off at a racetrack."

The pair drew closer to another building. It was frequently referred to as the "extracurricular" building, since it tended to house most of the classes that were not core academics. Ellie was familiar, since Auto shop was towards the back of this building. "This is where ya go if yer goin' t'a class that ain't math or science or english or languages in general or history."

Once more, Ellie opened the door and held it open.

Passing through this one, Allie did roll her eyes now. "Yes, but you have people to show the things to. I do not! It is not very easy to meet the people when you do not talk like they do." Teenagers had the most baffling, confusing, mixed-up, and parsed English that she'd heard of her time in America. Sure, Ray had done the best he could to teach her the ins and outs of slang and there were a few things that she'd picked up in her little learning outings. But how did you respond to someone who, instead of just laughing at a joke, said things like "lawl" or "ohemgee" when there was a problem?

Ellie, for all her strange accent, was not one of these people and Allie was quite thankful for such a thing! "I like to do art. Do you like art? I took an art class a long time ago, and Michiru-san helped me..." Pausing in her rambles, the pink-haired rabbit sighed. "Sorry. Michiru. I forget that you do not use those things here. But she was help so that I could paint. I am not good with clay still." Remembering the chalice she had tried to make for Helios brought a bit of a smile to the little teen's face.

"What class is your favorite, Ellie?" It felt somewhat unnatural to address an upperclassman without any sort of honorific or title to denote their difference in status, but that was the way of things in America. If there was any formality at all, they tended to trip over it and fall face-first into the strange landscape of it.

"Do ya think I talk like everyone else 'round 'ere?" It was a very blunt question which probably had a very obvious answer. "Yer in America now, Allie. It's probably easier t'meet people than ya think. Hell, I know plenty of guys who can barely speak 2 words of English and they're doin' jus' fine!" It was a fact. There were plenty of people in America who just didn't even bother to learn English and were still able to keep a job and a family.

Mentally, Ellie made note to add the Arts building to her list of places to visit, shuddering at the idea of running into any art fairies. Artists were such weird people. Speaking of weird...

"Mee-chee-roo?" Well, that was definitely different for a name. Of course, Ellie was mentally spelling it like an uneducated American as well. "So ya like makin' art stuff?" It wasn't the tomboy's thing, but at least it was more respectable than only playing video games (like Jared).

The hallway wasn't nearly as long as the one for the first building, but this was the spare-classes building. Not nearly as important.

Allie's question was answered without a second thought. "Auto Shop."
PostPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 10:21 pm

That brought several blinks to Allie's face, the idea that she could make friends without understanding a word that they said. Was she actually going to be able to get around with the strange miming that serviced for her everyday conversation at times? That was an exhilarating thought, and for a moment, Coralie could have hugged her strange-speaking mentor. "Michiru, yes! She ah...was a friend of my mama. You would like Haruka. She had fast cars and a..ah..this?" Hands mimed gunning the throttle of a bike, that universal twisting motion that represented motorcycle.

"I got to ride it when I was little, but my family did not think it was very safe then." Haruka was gone too, and unlike her fighting style, she had not imparted any of her vehicular knowledge on the small princess. "I like art. I like to paint, and to eat. I really like to eat." That was said without even a hint of bashfulness, a wide grin on her face.

Thinking it was a good idea to maybe start making friends here, Allie stopped and looked around. "Can you show me the Auto Shop? I would like to see what you do. I can find things if I need them here now." It was a bit of a lie, but walking around like this marked her plainly as a newcomer, something the bunned teenager wanted to avoid at all costs.

"Hah-Roo-Kah?"

Dear World, Japanese people named their kids weird. Sincerely, Ellie Spectre.

If it hadn't been for the description of this Hah-Roo-Kah person's interests, the blonde might ignored what was being said about strange-named person number two. However, the simple miming was all it took.

"Motorcycle. Motorbike. Bike. Heck, I'd even take 'a real vehicle' as an answer." Rather suddenly, the tomboy swung her backpack around and unzipped the top. She stuck her hand in and began digging. It was always a mess in there, but Ellie had long mastered the skill of finding what she wanted without really looking. When her hand exited, a photograph was between her pointer and middle fingers. It was worn along the edges, but otherwise seemed to be perfectly fine. Ellie held out the photograph, silently inviting the pink-haired girl to take it.

"Now, this Hah-Roo-Kah person better have done her sh*t the right way. Done her own maintenance on her bike. It's th'only way t'really be proud." Too many posers these days just bought the bike, then didn't know what to do with it afterwards. It was pathetic.

The senior's pinky tapped the corner of the photograph. "That's my baby right there. The Spectrum... put it t'gether on my own at 15. It was a mess before I worked on it." Though she hadn't mentioned whether or not she'd take Allie to auto shop or not, the blonde was already starting to guide the pair in that direction. Ellie didn't need to be asked twice to do something she liked.

Looking at the picture, Allie was more than a little surprised. A rainbow? Rainbows were the last things that the freshman would have expected Ellie Spectre to like! At least it was on what looked to be a rather impressive motorcycle; that at least made sense to her. "Haruka was famous at home. She was very fast, very good, but I do not think she did all the work? You win there." A smile was flashed, black sneakers smacking lightly as she tried to keep up with Ellie's purposeful strides.

It was always good to try and flatter your way into friendship!

Holding the picture back, a shrewd look passed Allie's face. There wasn't really anyone to tell her it was too dangerous now, was there? Perry didn't seem like he would be the type to object to a motorcycle, no sir! "Maybe you can show me the real one? I would like to see!" Coralie wanted to see everything!

"Then this Hah-roo-kah was a showman." Some people might have been impressed by this, but in Ellie's books, it wasn't something to be proud of. It was taking pride in someone else's work, where as the teen at least was able to claim she was the one who did everything. The racing and the repairs. Of course, in a professional race, that wouldn't fly because her pit crew wouldn't exactly exist if she had her way, but Ellie was never into professional racing. Street races were more fun strictly because of the unpredictability.

The tall girl's feet stopped right in front of a door, and it was then that she spun around to face Allie again. "Ya gotta be in mah neighborhood then first... I don't bring it 'round t'school because of th'risk of vandalism." At least she was honest about it, but even then, it didn't seem like the senior was planning on sharing the exact address where she lived. Once more, she spun around, and again got the door, pushing it open, then holding it so Coralie could enter.

For people who weren't familiar with auto shop, it was almost always a shock to go into the room to see essentially half of the room set up as a classroom, and the other half seeming to transform into a functioning car garage. The classroom tile eventually merged into concrete, the desks vanished about that point to leave room to work. Various tools were hanging from the walls, all in their proper places, and there was even a hunk of junk towards the very edge of the garage section. Obviously that was the class guinea pig. Every so often, golden eyes glanced to the pink-haired girl, as if trying to judge a reaction.
