Was she still chasing him? Tendaji chanced a quick glance over his shoulder, but there was no angry lioness in sight. Another close one. So maybe he shouldn't have called her sweet cheeks. Or been so appalled when he found out she was a grandmother. Or continued hitting on her afterward. And, okay, saying she was pretty when she was angry proooobably wasn't the best of ideas. But that was no excuse for chasing him down and trying to kill him!
And maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration. But Tendaji was quite determined not to hit on elderly little lionesses ever, ever again. They were terrifying!
Maybe if he was a lion...
But he wasn't, now was he? No, he was just a leopard. A very, very lost little leopard. Where was he? Not even the distant sound of waves crashing on the beach served to help (how could it, when he had yet to see the ocean?) and he looked around, hoping to find some point of reference or somebody helpful. Anybody except another lioness, really.

This was just stupid stupid stupid. Why wouldn't her muse talk to her? Suuure her parents had told her that sometimes muses didn't come to a lion until they were nearly adults, but her siblings had got theirs already (well some of them had) and why shouldn't she? And so she'd set off on a great journey...farther than she'd ever gone before! If nothing around the den or center of the pride would talk to her then she'd just go OUT to the edge of the pride and FIND IT!
Of course the whole morning had passed with nothing...but she wouldn't get too upset just yet. At least she wasn't lost on top of things. The waves hitting the shore were still echoing in the background--sigh. If only her muse had been something big and easy to see, like the sea! She was starting to think it was something very tiny. Or maybe...what if she didn't have a muse at all? What would that mean for her?
She plopped herself down to think about that for a while. To have no muse...to not be a part of something bigger...what'd that make her? She'd like to think it made her special. Maybe her muse WAS something tiny and unique, and there was no extra part to talk to her and guide her home. Maybe...maybe she was it, all there was of whatever she was. The thought was both reassuring and terrifying, and she shoved it away immediately.
The sound of someone else moving nearby made her look up. Someone green...did she know anyone that color of green? Something seemed strange about them too. Like they were shaped funny...thinner limbs, an elegant stride...something inside her twinged and she felt inexplicably drawn to go say hello to this person-thing. She padded right up and gulped.
"...H-hi...Wuh...what are y-you?"

Tendaji nearly jumped out of his skin when the little white lioness popped up beside him. A lioness! Run!
But... this wasn't the lioness that had chased him. She was much younger, and couldn't be much older than the half-siblings he had left back home before setting out on his quest. White too, like his brother Safi. He smiled down at her, strangely pleased to meet someone who reminded him of home. Somebody who wouldn't try to kill him. Hopefully.
What was he? He flicked his ears back and hesitated a moment, but soon recovered and drew himself up tall and proud. "I'm a leopard!" His shoulders hunched slightly as he finished talking, revealing that he wasn't quite as confident as he acted. "And you're a lion," he added to prevent any confusion.
