Echo grumbled and wriggled unhappily in the back seat of his father's car, tugging at the collar of a shirt that had been buttoned all the way up to his chin. When this didn't help him at all, the irate child made a loud whining noise, kicking his legs angrily from the booster seat that his father insisted that he sit in until he was old enough (and weighed enough) to sit in a normal seat, as stated by some stupid law-thing. The boy was more unhappy than he'd ever been at the moment, and it was all over the fact that his dad was being mean and making him wear a suit - a suit!! And not just a nice shirt and nice pants, either. Echo was wearing three layers of clothing, and that was homocide for a child who had barely stopped complaining about having to wear underwear in public.

"DADDY!! I DON' WAN'NA WEAR DIS AN' IF YER GON'NA MAKE ME WEAR IT OR STAY HOME DEN I WAN'NA GO BACK HOME CUZ IT'S ITCHY AN' HOT AN' NOT FUN AN' I DUN LIKE IT!!" the small, pale boy practically shrieked from the back seat, knowing that was how his other friends got their points across and figuring that it would work well for him, too. He didn't care if they were going to a stupid music-y play that he really wanted to see - it wouldn't be any FUN if he was so ITCHY!!

But to Echo's chagrin, Peony wasn't sympathetic to his plight. It was a severe trial for the man to keep his temper in, but through a combination of biting his lip and grabbing the wheel in a stranglehold, he maintained a level voice as he spoke to his thrashing son. "Echo, please calm down. I promise that you'll like it, and I'm sorry, but you're going to have to get used to wearing clothes. I realize this is a big jump to a lot of clothing, but it's what's required, and there's nothing you can do about it."

The Eilian pulled (calmly, to his surprise) in front of the theatre then and tossed his keys to the kid running the valet service, giving him a look that screamed 'If you scratch this car, I'll buff it out with your a**.' He unlocked the back door and fumbled with Echo's safety belts - which was definitely not helped by Echo's wriggling - and pulled his son into his arms. His voice was soothing as he patted Echo's hair. "Here, I'll get you some candy, and once we find our seats, you can take the jacket off. Now please try and be nice?"

Predictably, Echo wasn't happy with the fact that his screaming didn't at all help him to get his way, and proceeded with the method that he was much more akin to: he started bawling. The small nix cried loudly the entire rest of the way to the theatre, but by the time Peony had pulled into the parking lot, he'd managed to tire himself out significantly. He still squirmed when his dad tried to get him out, but only continued to hiccup sadly into the Eilian's shoulder once he was in his arms. His face was hidden against the equally-scratchy fabric of Peony's coat, one small fist rubbing softly against his damp eyes, nodding slowly at the promise. Stupid Daddy and stupid suits...

The tiny little child was already making her way to the theatre, tiny black Mary-Janes thudding rhythmically against the paved walkway. The little girl was clothed in a black ruffled dress that reached to the knees of her white tights. Her hair was pulled back into a formal looking bun. The girl looked out of place among the adults, especially considering she had no adult chaperon with her.

Aesica looked down, pulling her long sleeves up so she could check her watch. Good; she wasn't late, according to the time on her ticket. To be honest, she would have loved to have had Mother here with her, but.... lately, Mother was preoccupied. She didn't hold it against her maternal parent, though. Besides, this was kind of exciting, being out and about the city scene by herself. And, even if she was barely taller than an adult, she felt just as big as any of the adults walking by. She could almost bet she was smarter than them, though, but she didn't voice that opinion. She could ponder it later, after the opera.

Echo kept himself buried against his dad for a while as they shuffled through the large throng of people, legs kicking just a little bit, still chafing against his annoying little suit. As they entered the lobby itself, the moment arrived where people were being allowed into the theatre, itself. Though Peony had received his tickets a while ago, having been given them rather than needing purchase them upon arriving, he had promised that he would be getting his son candy, and was therefore forced to wait in the long line for the different treats that were being sold to the play-goers.

Gently, as they were standing in line, Peony gently nudged his son awake. Echo murmured unhappily in his arms, slowly opening his turquoise eyes once again, still looking very unhappy. Unfortunately for the little nix, he would need to wake back up if he didn’t want to miss the beginning of the play, if not the entire thing. For the sake of helping him wake up, Peony slowly lowered him down to the ground, pressing a kiss to his temple -grateful for the fact that he was done throwing a fit- and letting Echo take hold of a couple of his fingers.

Quietly, Echo wobbled next to him, rubbing softly at his now-tired eyes, looking around curiously. He had never really been in a place that was as big or as crowded as this lobby was. Regardless, he didn’t hesitate to find the nearest person who was about his size, and presumably his age. However, she was by herself, and seemed to hold herself with a level of dignity that was reserved for people many years older than her. Waving his hand gently to get her attention, he moved as far away from his dad as he could, smiling softly.

“Hullo. Are you here t’see the Phantom ‘a the Opera, too?” Echo asked with that same soft smile on his face. He looked around once again, making sure that his question wasn’t wrong, before tipping his head to the side, hair falling across his face as it was prone to do. Gently, he scratched at his shoulder, still not approving of the suit that he was wearing. “Are you here all ‘lone?”

Dark night-blue eyes fell on the boy, assessing him a moment. A small, sugar-sweet smile spread across her face; so far, this one was promising. He was going to see Phantom of the Opera, which was a sign of good taste on his part. He also seemed polite and impressionable enough. She'd play nice for now; she wasn't sure if the boy was food or pet material. It was either one or the other; he seemed to nice to be an ally.

"Why yes, I am. I didn't expect to see any other children here." Aesica replied, her tone candy-coated and friendly enough. "And yes, I am." She forced a small smile; oh, how she hated that question. She was tired of being asked if she was alone or where her mommy was when she was perfectly and mentally capable of going places without parental assistance. She bit her tongue, however; this was a little kid, after all. He didn't know any better yet. "I take it you are here with a parent or guardian?" she asked, tucking a curling black tendril of hair behind her ear.

Echo smiled brightly in return to the one that was offered to him, wiggling in place just a little bit as he did so. Of course, it was only a moment later that he was forced to scratch at the stupid and uncomfortable clothing that he had to wear, considering even the smallest movements caused him to itch even more wherever the fabric rubbed him wrong. Still, his small hand remained wrapped tightly around his dad's fingers, so he was pulled back when Peony stepped forward in line, squeaking softly.

"Oooh. Wull I'm just'a toddl'r still, acshully. I asked my Daddy t'take me, but I'm wonderin' if it was a good idea, 'cause he made me get all dressied up in a dumb suit, 'n' it's really itchy," Echo both replied and explained, still scratching softly at the stupid suit-thing. His eyes widened at her following statement. "Really?! That's so cool! I wish I cou'd go places without my Daddy, but he says I'm still too liddle. See, that's him!" he added, pointing up at the man whose hand he was holding.

Surprised at being suddenly addressed, the smile on Peony's face was awkward, although it helped that he was fairly out of practice. He raised his non-Echo hand and waved gingerly, unsure exactly what he was supposed to be doing. "Yeah, that's me. And you are too little, at least for most things that I go to. But I'm going with you to this opera, remember, so don't say I don't take you anywhere." His smile was affectionate as he ruffled Echo's silken hair.
