Kafele was sitting on the smooth surface of a rock that was obviously too small for his growing paws from where he distinctively remembered once pouncing on a cream colored cub by the name of Kayin. He was abnormally still - especially for this particular red juvenile – as his blue gaze searched the horizon. He could hear his mother Amira and his sister talking behind him not too far away and Kafele would occasionally look back and catch a glance of his brother Livius calmly listening in on the conversation. His other brother was nowhere to be seen and was most likely either training with aunt Fila or following uncle Siku. Hopefully not with Sahen, the red juvenile was sure Amira would tell them if the Shaktona had come to visit. Kafele really hoped Azubuike would show up soon as he was definitely the easiest one to relate within his family.

Kafele was bored. This happened more often than he liked but it didn’t make it any easier to endure. This was one of those days when he could really use some time with Kayin – why was his friend so hard to find?

Oversized beige paws beat the earth lazily as Azubuike made his journey back home after a long day of "work". The dark tuft of fur on his tail dragged in the dirt, the tell-tale sign that the lion was exhausted and ready for a long nap curled up next to his mother. His swept across his eyes, concealing them from view as Azu carefully reviewed the new technique Fila taught him. Though the morphing shadow beneath his form beckoned his attention, Azubuike was careful not to let his mind slip. That was one of his weaknesses, Aunt Fila let him know it frequently. Focus, Azubuike! Concentrate! Don't let these silly things distract you from your hard work! If were in the middle of a battle field, you would be the first to die! ... But wait, what am I concentrating on, again? Azu scoffed and chuckled at his thoughts, shaking his head gently and finally lifting his attention as he came closer to where his family were at rest.

As the young lion slid stealthily into the scene, his orange eyes fell upon the familiar red form that was unmistakably his brother. A smug grin crept across Azubuike's face as he realized Kafele was totally oblivious to his presence... He made a perfect, and vulnerable target for his new move. Any evidence of fatigue instantly swept away as he made his silent approach towards his victim. Without a word, he crept past his sister and mother, glistening fangs now protruding from behind smiling lips. What made it even easier, his brother was unusually still. If it weren't for his vibrant coloration, he could almost be mistaken for a boulder! Azubuike didn't let the fact bother him as he quickened his pace into a romp, and instantly sprung into a graceful leap. Azu was certain he had already won as he fell towards his prey with extended claws. "GOTCHA!"

It was good that aunt Fila hadn’t been there because Kafele had been so distracted about having nothing to do that he didn’t even realize when something actually did happen. Snarling on instinct as he was pushed out of the rock and against the ground, the red lion rolled in the dirt fighting the small sharp claws that stung him with claws of his own as he tried to scratch his attacker with swift movements, narrowed eyes trying to identify his assaulter.

“Azuuuuu!” Kafele let out a childish roar when he finally recognized the orange gaze of his brother and he could swear he heard some giggles from the rest of his family. Even though a few seconds ago he’d done anything to have Azubuike there to play with him, Kafele hated to admit that he’d been startled to the point he could feel his heart beating vigorously against his chest. He also hated having his back pushed against the ground. “You are so going to get it!”

Azubuike hit his target with a vicious growl of success, letting his weight topple the red lion until they slammed into the earth. He endured the sting of his brother's claws with a little less than a cringe. He wouldn't let a few gashes ruin his playtime, but they would make excellent tools in fishing for attention from mom later on.

Azu's tail flicked wildly as Kafele seemed to struggle under his weight. The baleful grin on his face only strengthened with his brother's threat. "Oh yeah, little Kafe?" He teased, reminding his brother who was older - and 'naturally' - the more skilled of the two. With a swift leap, the young lion ended his assault and landed a good distance away as he prepared for a retaliation. "Well then, come and get me. If you can!" The pale lion's rough voice roared with laughed as he bolted away. He sped past his mother and siblings, letting his paws aimlessly carry him across the dirt and grass. Azu didn't bother to look over his shoulder to see if his brother was chasing him. He knew he just couldn't resist a challenge like this one.

“We’re the same size! If I’m little so are you, stuuuupid!” Kafele growled at his brother, a grin slowly forming across his face now that he didn’t have Azubuike weighting him down. He could tell his brother was goading him, but it didn’t make the red lion feel any less inclined to follow after his pale sibling. On the contrary, he really wanted to remove that smug expression from Azu’s face.

The young lion ran past his family on the opposite side that Azu had taken and Dada let out an annoyed grunt. . However, Kafele barely noticed it as he wasn’t paying that much attention to his sister anymore, not when his brother was so much more interesting and fun at that moment.

“The blood red wrath of a true Atmaja will fall upon your puny hide!” the young lion shouted dramatically. He might be the youngest of the litter but as far as he was concerned, he was the one who held the truest Atmaja colors – something that made him rather proud and conceited to be honest.

"Stupid? Me?" Azubuike let out a puny roaring scoff as he picked up his pace for his next amateur move.

There he goes with his Atmaja pride, again. Rolling his eyes, Azubuike swiftly spun on his front toes, letting his backside slide gracefully behind him as he met his brother with a taunting glare. He readied himself for a collision, claws outstretched, yearning to teach Kafele a lesson for belittling him that way.

"Kafe, you forgot something." His naturally growlish voice as he crouched. A toothy grin stretched across his face, the red blood from his wound blooming across his pale fur and merging with his crimson swirl patterns. Waiting patiently for the crash that would hopefully end his brother's silly bellow of conceit...

Oh yes, Kafele could always trust his brother to put up the best kind of fight. The red lion could see that his brother meant business – he knew from experience that Azu’s claws were as sharp as they looked – and the cuts he had caused increased the red markings on his pale sibling’s coat. It was amusing, really, considering the direction of the conversation.

“Oh yeah, what?!” Kafele growled with a nasty grin as he tried to ram into his brother, not bothering to slow down one bit. As far as he was concerned, Azu had asked for it! Not just for startling him earlier but for leaving Kafele alone to deal with his boredom for a good part of the day.

Azubuike watched the scene in slow-motion as he usually did when a fight got intense. Kafele's glittering red form bounded toward him, fur and mane rippling wildly as the young lion sliced through the wind. In an instant, their little forms collided, forcing the air from young Azu's lungs.

"UFF!" He let himself fall backwards as the scene came to an abrupt and painful end. The momentum seemed to carry them far, stones and pebbles knocking out of the way as they slid across the dirt. Now they had reversed rolls, Azu was pinned to the earth. But he didn't let the fact bother him as he reached his paws up in an attempt to sink his claws into his brother's firesque fur.

Finally he caught his breath. "Your eyes are blue, Kafele." Azu growled, his fangs enhancing the venom in his grin. "No matter how red your fur is you will always have the wimpy hue of Tama in your eyes. At least I can dye my fur red with the blood of my enemies... but you... You might as well get rid of them." A cruel laughter erupted from his throat as he awaited whatever punishment Kafele had in store for him.

Azu’s claws stung but not nearly as much as his words. There was a reason Kafele hated when people said that a lion’s eyes said a lot about one’s character and anyone who knew Kafele’s loud Atmaja pride would understand why. His soft sky blue eyes almost seemed to deny that he was a true Atmaja at heart. But Kafele had started to think up of a few comebacks not too long ago and he didn’t hesitate to answer even if he couldn’t help but to let a frown slowly grow over his suddenly colder eyes – despite his efforts, Kafele was still an easy one to read.

“My eyes are perfect. My blue is like mom’s and aunt Fila’s green! They say I’m going to be strong and clever.” He didn’t sound that convincing really, it was clear the young lion was still working on his “defense”. Sahen was the most Atmaja lion he knew and the ruler had fiery eyes. Still, he had to admit he was happy that the positions were reversed and, narrowing his eyes at his brother's dangerous paws, he tried to n** at his brother chest and belly, leaning back and partly hiding his face behind the elboy. “Like my mane. They’re my wisdom hairs!”

Kafele's weak attempt to recover his pride only strengthened Azu's crackling laughter. "No... The Shatkona's eyes are perfect. Yours just make the clouds want to cry." After a long and doubtlessly painful struggle Azu forced his limbs against his brother in an attempt to shove him away. Even if the effort was a failure, it didn't matter to the young lion... because it was obvious he was winning the verbal duel... the one that scarred the most.

"Wisdom hairs?!" The howl of laughter constricted Azu's lungs, rendering him temporarily immobile until he caught his breath. It was too easy to come up with a taunt with that title for his mane. He decided to provide a little mercy... For the moment. He could tell from the dull twinkle in his brother's eyes that his pride has already been wounded enough. But of course, he'd remind him later how pathetic it was.

“Pfff!” Kafele snorted – for lack of something witty to reply. It was obvious that he still had a lot of work to do before he could put a good enough insult fight. He always did better on the physical level which didn’t stop him from being forcefully shoved away by his brother's strong paws.

“I met a Tama lion that had blood red eyes. I guess that’s what they call the Balance.” He said it in a mocking tone, clearly implying that his brother didn’t display that balance… until his eyes once again took note of his brother’s pale coat and red markings. Had he just given an excuse for the exact same thing that had started the silly fight? Yeah, he really needed to work on that whole “think before you speak” deal.

“Are you tired, Azu…?” the red lion asked with a wicked grin, his front paws slowly rising from the ground, claws unsheathed, as if he was preparing to give his brother a very painful hug. He could swear someone behind him had just “tsk”-ed softly at him but Kafele was hardly paying attention at what was going on behind his back.

Azubuike bounced out from under Kafele, tail swaying playfully as he met his challenging stare once again. Blood and sweat leaked from his beige form, and it was a twisted taste of sour and sweet. Azubuike relished every moment of it. "Make up your mind bro! Are you raging Atmaja pride or..." He stuck his tongue out, curling his face into a goofy grin as he mocked his brother in a deep voice. "... 'Baaal~ance!'?!"

Azu mimicked his brother's movements, ready to take on Kafe's painful hug with his own. "You wish, Kafele." He snarled, flicking his tail as he advanced on his brother with outstretched claws.

In Azu's young eyes, nothing was going on in their surroundings. There were no birds chirping, no sun shining... it was just him and his ''enemy''. Azubuike was focused for once in his young life.

There was a hint of a sheepish smile as Kafele realized his brother had seen the obvious fail in his logic but it quickly reverted back to the wicked grin that was his default expression.

“No, I don’t.” Kafele replied mostly to just contradict his brother though it was true that a tired Azu would be a boring Azu...

The red lion’s eyes widened as his brother moved closer and Kafele kicked the ground with his back paws and jumped towards his brother, trying to force them into a nasty roll as he attempted to grab Azu’s shoulders. He could see that Azu had been the first to move so he wasn’t sure which was they go but he was fully intent on grabbing and not scratching. His old mean nickname for Azu came to mind but he decided not to use it... yet.

Azubuike let his claws make scars in the earth as he charged. As long as Kafele wanted a fight, he'd get one. But Azubuike was determined not to give up. It was always relaxing to be groomed and have wounds nursed by Amira, something his brother had always teased him about. Pfth, he's just jealous.

The young lion put all his strength and power into his hind legs as he kicked off the ground and launched at his brother. The collision came with the inevitable claws and fangs, but Azu was much more focused on knocking his brother out of the air with his weight. That'll prove who's the bigger and stronger of the two!

Kafele could tell this was going to be a nasty hit as he watched his brother jump. He could only calculate the timing of his attack so that he could manage the collision force best as he could. While his brother was focused on the impact, Kafele was much more intent on grabbing Azu’s neck which he tried to accomplish using his tiny piercing claws as his mouth rose to bite one his opponent’s ear. Azu had had brought some considerable power so Kafele expected to be somewhat pushed back but the young lion was determined to grab and not let go whatever the cost - even if he did feel a good amount of air being forcefully drawn from his chest.

There was a nasty growl echoing from his chest and again, he could hear something in the background, most likely Amira or Dada chiding them quietly but it was definitely not loud enough to divert Kafele’s attention from his pale brother.
