Haqikah had avoided most of her old friends during the upsetting times after her b*****d of a mate kicked her out, but with a new house in a new city and some slaves of her own she felt ready to meet the world again. She was back on her feet and was ready to reconnect with the friends that were her friends and not "his" or "their" friends.
She wouldn't dream of contacting his buddies since she was sure he had turned them against her, and she didn't have high hopes for the friends that knew them as a couple. She knew how she had looked at friends that turned single. They were still nice and all, but they didn't fit in all social circumstances. She had no desire to be the odd one out, and she had a feeling many would side with the b*****d and his new trophy b***h.
She was meeting Chione at a nice café in Giza for some lunch and she had decided to take Akil with her. The salty sea air was refreshing and it was also a place that held few negative memories for her. She studied the menu, trying to decide what she wanted to eat. Seafood was a rare treat for her since she tended to avoid the smelly fish hounds at the market in Babylon. Fish was better when it was fresh and hadn't baked in the sun for Ra knew how long. To add insult to injury the fish was very expensive in Babylon. Bad fish at an elevated price... No thanks!
She wondered if they would allow her slave to sit at her feet at the café. Otherwise she'd have to leave him somewhere and that might be problematic. Not that she thought he'd get in trouble, but she disliked leaving her possessions around like that.

Chione was on her way to Babylon. It was really a far walk and Anpu was glad that she would be home before dark. He had grown so protective of her and even more-so after she was gone for so many months selling her precious flowers. The way things looked him and her brother 'seamed' to be getting along- or avoiding each other more. That was a positive. They were driving her wild with the bickering between them. She rubbed her temples with a paw as if remembering all the stress she had too put up with. Loving both of them she just couldn't do more then walk away and let them stew with each other. She really was glad that was done with. She shook her head and tried to get it out of her mind.
These were happy days. And today was going to be a good one. She lifted up her nose and began to smell the fresh fish. She forgot how wonderful it really was. After returning back to Caspia she was back to a diet of deer, deer, deer, and deer- just for the extra measure of adding the word in her head in case she forgot. Not that her husband wasn't a good cook and a great hunter. But things turn so bland when you have them over and over again. She didn't dare tell him that, he was so eager to please her and she really did love him, so she just nodded and went along with the same plate of food every night.
She saw Haqikah in the distance, her friend from so long ago. Rushing to the table she sat and looked over at her friends slave. She should have brought one of hers; wasn't that hound protocol or something? Chione almost felt out a place but tried to hide it.
"I'm sorry I'm late my dear. Had to tend to my husband. How is that bum you live with?"
She hadn't known they had divorced only that she had gotten married long after the two had met. But she knew she hadn't liked him since the day she had met him. At least you could tell that Anpu was a nice guy- minus the blood and guts from his work. This other guy- he really just seamed interested in one thing. Though she did seam quite happy. Maybe she had misjudged him.
"I'm sorry that was rude of me. You look quite content. I assume things have been going well?"
She moved and jingled a huge sack of stones about to pay the waiter for a drink. Had she known the other hounds plight with money she wouldn't have been so obvious about handing stones out.

Haqikah was pleased to see that Chione noticed her new slave, and even more pleased to see that he was sitting quietly and attentively like a good boy. She greeted her friend with a happily wagging tail and the usual pleasantries. Chione looked well, and while she didn't have a slave attending to her at the moment she could hardly be mistaken for a poor dog. She carried herself like a lady and her collar and other accessories looked expensive without being showy. Had it been any other hound, Haqikah would have been green with envy, but she happened to like her friend so she told herself that the items in question wouldn't be flattering with her own coat. She wouldn't want them anyway...
The question was to be expected, but Haqikah couldn't help but tense up a little bit. Chione was only being polite, showing her good breeding as it where, by asking about her mate. Calling him a bum was something not many would have gotten away with when they were still together, her friend happened to be one of them, but with the recent happenings in mind she fully agreed. He deserved to be called a bum and much worse!
"I wouldn't know what he's up to these days," she said, with just a hint of regret in her voice, "We... Don't live together anymore."
She was determined to paint a favourable picture of the events. Favourable for her at least... And so she waited for her friends reaction before elaborating on the how and why.
