Well PAX has come and gone. Shown at PAX was a demonstration of XIV.
The demo had a player as a harvester going through the tutorial battle engaging a few monsters.
Now I don't want to sound like an angry "fanboy" but I watch a great reviewer called the SpoonyOne who runs the Spoony Experiment site and posts on thatguywiththeglasses. He posted a video recently calling the game boring and garbage from the video. In a further response he acknowledged that the demo he watched was a tutorial but doesn't change the fact XIV will be garbage. (He then praises Guild Wars for its demo of scripted footage). In any case I'm just curious about peoples experience in the beta, whether they hold up to their expectations are you having fun. Etc. Now please don't go running your mouth off on his site about how he's wrong or anything since he's entitled to his opinion.
And SE has never been known for good demonstrations at conventions.
Though one last thing, I find it funny that somebody who has stated several times he doesn't like mmorpgs makes a preview video for an mmorpg.

I'm having fun in beta, tho I don't play it as much as some people do, simply because...well...it's beta and all the chars are gonna get wiped. So I just play to figure stuff out, whats what and where stuff is. I think it's fun, it still needs some work tho. the UI is bleh. The class system is pretty neat just because you can use skills from every other class on whatever class you're currently playing. The game does seem like it's missing something, but it's just beta and knowing SE there is stuff they haven't released yet. about the only thing I really don't like is crafting/gathering. a stupid guessing game does not making gathering fun, and you need to level up 3-4 crafts depending on what class you wanna play. If you want to make your own stuff and not always buy it from other people, or pay to get it repaired.

all I can say is...Retards should not be able to give game reviews lol...over exaggeration much, he should have played the game himself before even trying to give it a review. saying a game is boring and pathetic just cause of a bad demo, is just...
Anyways he does make a point why they picked a crafting class to demo with makes no since lol. only reason I can think of is to show they can fight? The mobs on the boat weren't attacking back in the demo, they actually do in the game. and the windowless doorless town he was talking about lol wasn't even a town it was just an 'instanced' dock, the town is behind the dock and it's freaking huge, with lots of doors and windows.
as for fights when you do leves you can choose how easy/hard they are. easy being I can kill everything myself and hardly take damage. Hard being stuff hurts a lot, runs away when injured to heal, agros, calls for help, and actively hunts you down. also I swear that guy sounds just like Desert Punk lol.

Well I respect Spoony a lot for presenting his points and standing behind them. But again I find it odd that he would go out of his way to make a preview for a game he obviously has no interest in in a genre that's not his forte, he did play a demo there but complained that they didn't connect to the open beta. Again its all valid points of a presenting a game Square wants people to buy, I'm not arguing that.
But still making a video about a genre or game that doesn't interest you is just going to bring flack in any case. I understand trying to show all the big titles at the convention but you still have to pick and choose what you want to represent.
Its like if you asked me to preview and write a review for Halo: Reach, which belongs to a series that I feel is over-hyped and completely not worth all the attention it gets year after year. I would get bashed the same way Spoony is with XIV.

Though Spoony is still new to the whole convention reporting thing. I guess he'll learned eventually to pick and choose his battles.

All bad blood aside, Spoony is still cool. And I'm glad to here that the game has a large variety of options for play, and probably even more once the game is fully released. Though I hope they properly tweak the surplus and Exp system etc.
