Mmamohlake was staying close to a cave, somewhere near a ridge shrouded by all sorts of brush. Her leg had been acting up once again and she couldn't make the trek she knew was needed in order to feed herself. Her stomach was beginning to growl and she could feel the pains begin. She hadn't eaten in a few days and was looking rather thin. She hoped that her leg would settle soon so she could at least try to find something to eat, even if it was the rotting scraps left over by someone else.

Peeking her head out from a bush she was laying under to escape the sun, Mmamohlake surveyed her surroundings. She always had to be on the look out for any sort of dangers that may present themselves to her. Being that she was a handicapped Wild Dog she was far more vulnerable than the healthy Wild Dogs around the savannah. They could run at the first sense of danger, while Mmamohlake could only hobble. If a lion wanted to make a snack out of her, they could easily do so.

Not spotting anything as she looked about, she's sighed, placing her head back into the brush and onto her good leg. Her life was lonely, but she chose this loneliness. If she had stayed with her pack she would have been outcasted anyway for she was useless.

A splotchy tail waved jauntily as the young dog trotted easily along. His gate, while not precisely graceful, was smooth and relaxed, eating up the distance without all too much effort. He liked to travel, it was fun. Or, well, no, that wasn't exactly it. He liked to meet new people. Especially girls. Girls were very fun.

Aandag paused to glance around, ears flicking and nose twitching. He was starting to feel a little bit lonesome was all. It'd been a while since he'd had someone to fool around with, someone who would be able to appreciate his many skills and general awesomeness... or just talk to. Someone to talk to would be nice...

Head cocked slightly, the patchy dog frowned faintly. He thought he smelled someone...maybe? If he did, he couldn't see them. But exploration was key to discovery, or something like that. Jaws parted in an eager grin, Aandag padded through the brush, his blue eyes bright as he looked to see if he might find the source of the scent. It smelled like another dog. It had been a while since he actually spent time with on of his own kind...

With Aandag's noisey exploration through the brush, Mmamohlake ended up hearing him rather quickly, her ears jutting forward in attention in attempts to locate the specific location of the sound. A small growl escaped her lips, a warning more to herself than any other, and she quickly attempted to get herself off the ground and move along. The last thing she needed was a fight with someone else. She would no doubt lose considering her condition.

It seemed as thought her bad leg had other plans for her today, because as soon as she managed to wield herself off the ground she let out a loud yelp of pain. It was swollen and the pressure needed to walk on it only caused a storm of painful pricks to trickle throughout her leg. Because she had never really lost the legs function fully she always attempted to walk on it, even when it was in pain. If her leg had been amputated or mutated, she would have learned long ago how to run, hunt and walk with only three.

Her whimpers would no doubt reach her unexpected guest in no time, and while she waited, she settled herself back down onto the ground to relieve her leg of the pressure and try to look as pitiful as possible in hopes that whoever they happened to be would show her mercy and leave her be.

Was that whimpering?

Aandag paused, frowning uncertainly as his ears pricked forward to listen. Someone was hurt? Or were there pups? Well, even if he'd had any plans of going around before they were certainly long gone now. His pace picking up until his lope was nearly a run, the splotchy young dog pretty much crashed through the brush, he wasn't exactly trying to be stealthy after all. Besides, it didn't matter if they heard him coming. Especially if they were hurt.

He was momentarily confused when he reached the spot he'd thought the small sounds of distress had come from and didn't immediately see anyone. But while he glanced around, certain that he'd heard something to go along with the scent, he saw her. She was all curled up small and looked absolutely miserable from what he could see.

"Hi there," Aandag greeted with a wagging tail and, never one to be subtle really, added, "Are you alright?"

It eased Mmamohlake only slightly that the creature to stumble upon her was a wild dog, just like herself. It would have been much better if it were a female, because even a male could do horrible things to her aside from serious bodily harm. She gathered a female dog would be much more sympathetic to her pitiful looking self.

She shook in fear as the male approached and was caught off guard by the happy sounding voice that came from him muzzle. Are you alright? It buzzed around in her head for a moment before it finally sunk in that he was genuinely attempting to ask her if she was ok, and that he was not here to attack her. Still a little appregensive, she scooted a little ways from him and grimaced with a whimper each time she did so.

"N-no," Mmamohlake answered with a stutter, "My leg. It's in pain. Useless limb that it is."

The gleefully friendly grin died on his muzzle as she stuttered her answer. No. She was not alright. She was in pain. The tail stopped wagging, his ears laying back for a moment before flicking forward attentively.

"Your leg?" he repeated uncertainly, taking a few more steps towards her before pausing hesitantly. He didn't want to...what was the phrase? Invade her personal space? What was that about anyway? Personal space...well, some people insisted upon its existence. "What happened? Something bite you?" But he couldn't smell fresh blood or anything...what had happened to her? Why did she call her leg useless just for hurting?

She didn't look well, actually, now that he took a moment to look her over. Her fur was splotchy and pretty, but he could almost see her ribs through it. Had something hurt her leg so badly that she couldn't hunt? Who would do something like that to a girl?

"No, no...," Mmamohlake said quietly, watching as the happiness that was once exuding from the male before her die on him. She always managed to ruin things someway or somehow. He was happy, and because she was honest about her hurting leg, he was no longer happy. She had taken it from him and dampened it.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to dampen your spirits," She said, attempting to get up from where she was, her nerves having returned to her with the kindness from his voice. He wasn't going to hurt her, but her presence may hurt him. She should move away before something bad happened to him. "I'll leave you be now."

As soon as she managed to lift herself up on one leg, she attempted to steady herself on the bad one and yelped, plunking back down to the ground. It was still so sore, she thought it might break beneath her. What kind of useless dog was she? She could not eat or help a pack in anyway. She was so useless.

Sorry? She was sorry? Why was she sorry? It didn’t make any sense! ”I don’t feel dampened. It’s not even raining or anything,” Aandag assured her, his ears flattening as she tried to lift herself only to yelp and plunk back down again. It really hurt her that badly? How awful! What on earth had happened? He didn’t smell any blood and, looking at it curiously, he didn’t think it looked like it had been broken.

Then again, ‘broken’ as far as he was concerned meant ‘snapped like that twig over there’ and he was really not the best at guessing injury issues. He could, however, determine things about pain. Especially when someone yelped or cried about it.

”No no, don’t…don’t get up if it hurts. I’ll leave if you want, but…I was wondering…Can I help?” the dog asked, his head tipping quizzically to one side, ears pricked hopefully. He wanted to help. He was sad that she was hurt, and hoped to make everything better. He wasn’t bad at being good after all. Besides which, she seemed nice!

Even though Mmamohlake felt bad about worrying him, the dog's joke about it not even raining brought a small smile to her face for a moment. He was funny and had an odd sense of humor considering it wasn't what she meant. It made her feel even worse for burdening him with her plight, regardless of the fact he could walk away at anytime.

"Help?" Mmamohlake reiterated. No one had asked her if she ever needed help before. Generally as soon as they saw her injured leg they tried to keep as far a distance as they could. No one wanted to band together with someone who was injured. They were considered stragglers and kept the rest of the group down. They were practically dead already.

"I, uhm... How would you help?" She asked with both suspicion and curiosity. She wasn't sure how he could help her. Unless he brought her something to eat. She hadn't eaten in about a week, but she would not admit that length of time to him, "I, uh.... I haven't eaten.... in a couple days..."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 9:53 pm

Aandag's only reply to her question about how he would help was a shrug. Like he actually had a plan. She obviously did not know him well at all. "Food? I can do that!" he jumped eagerly on the idea, his tail wagging slightly as he almost puffed himself up. "I'm a great hunter. You just wait there, I'll be right back!"

He darted off as soon as the words had left his mouth, his plumed tail waving gleefully long after he was out of her sight. Unfortunately, he was not 'right back'. He wasn't a bad hunter, on the contrary he was quite skilled. But that didn't mean he instantly had his teeth on what he was looking for. For a long while he stalked about, his ears and eyes and nose alert. It took him almost an hour to find prey to return with, but he did return. Slowly. The unfortunate old duiker he'd managed to succeffuly surprise was a lot harder to haul than it was to hunt, but he hadn't wanted to return with just a little rat or something! She said she hadn't eaten in days. A rat was not going to cut it.

"Hey...actually I dunno your name, sorry. But hullo, I'm back!" the dog called, having released the prey he'd caught for her long enough to call a greeting. She'd seemed jumpy before, he didn't wish to frighten her.

Mmamohlake was very surprised by this random male's exuberance in helping her when she was injured and down on her luck. It was very refreshing and although it didn't exactly waver how she viewed herself, it did make her feel a little better and come to plant a seed in her mind. Perhaps this seed would one day grow and the realization that not everyone believes she's completely incapable.

Mmamohlake watched as Aandag wandered off into the distance to fetch her something to eat. She took the time to rest her head and fit in a small nap. Since she was so starved and so low on energy she had to conserve any she had, it would take her quite a bit of it to tear into a carcass and eat her weight in food for the next several days. She could not simply rely on his kindness to feed her for the rest of her days. She would have to go out once again and try on her own.

It seemed like she had only settled her head down when her ears caught something coming back in the distance. In reality it had been some time, but when you slept it felt like it was only minutes. Lifting her head groggily, the sprightly male dog was caught in her eyes dragging back a nice sized prey. It almost took little Mmamohlake back a bit at the size of the animal he had managed to catch, but she was grateful to him regardless.

"Oh! Oh... I'm Mmamohlake," She said quietly, pulling herself up haphazardly to try and meet him at least half way. After all, he had been so kind to her and had drug the prey-beast so far just for a stranger. She should at least give him a small break. Hobbling over to Aandag, she gave him a small smile in between her grimaces, "I didn't ask your name either. I'm sorry for being so rude..."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2011 6:46 am

"Rude? Eh, don't worry about it," Aandag scoffed, in the most reassuring of ways of course! He was just dimissing the rudeness was all. "Nothing wrong with being comfortable enough to talk with a stranger," he added with a wag of his tail before finishing, "My name's Aandag. And it's lovely to have met you." He was trying not to pant, it had been a little heavy was all, but he didn't want to look pathetic. It was more fun to look impressive. And he was impressive, he was a great and fabulous hunter, oh yes. That it had been mostly luck to find the ancient and perhaps slightly crippled creature and not skill...well. That wasn't important. What was important was that he was clearly pretty awesome at aquiring food, so there.

He watched in some concern as she limped, it looked like she was in a great deal of pain and he wished he could help with that too. But there was nothing he could do. At least he'd fed her. There was that. It had to be something. And maybe he could keep her company for a bit as well. Company was nice. And maybe talking to someone might distract her from her leg hurting. He... still wasn't sure why it would be doing that, but it was and that wasn't good. "Help yourself, by the way, I'm not that hungry."

((So sorry it took so long to reply this, I am trying to get organized at the moment and it's not...helping much...))
