Young Mashina was starting to become bored, having decided to be a bit more reckless than usual and go off on his own for the afternoon. His mother was sure to give him a scolding for this, him being out by himself without anyone watching him, but.. But he wanted to see the lands he'd be patrolling when he was older, even for just a little bit that day!

Hm, hm. The mid-aged klipspringer let out a satisfied sigh through his nostrils as he munched away, having wandered into untraveled territory and found some rather tasty looking bushes. Away from his two adopted... sons? Nah, they weren't sons to him yet. Students? Pupils? Young Grasshoppers?.. Sure, why not. Being away from Mint'e and Taga for the day was a nice change of pace from the usual routine: training the boys and traveling.

In actuality, he was only a bit away from the family den, pushing his small form through the couple of 'enormous' bushes and patches of grass he encountered. But to the cub, it felt a little bit like an adventure! "Ow. Ouch.. Ouch!" Mash' cried out in annoyance, swatting with clumsy cub paws at the twigs poking at him and the tight grouping of foliage snagging at his fur. Finally, he was out!.. With the exception of his tail tuft.

Trotting over to a nearby bush, Ruul'dolph reached over and gave a snap of his maw at the pretty luscious looking greenery, enjoying his time alone. Chew. Munch. Swallow. Sigh happily. Rinse and repeat. He continued to feed, every so often either making his way over to a new shrub or looking around for any sort of threat to his pleasant day.

"Grah! Dang bushes.." He muttered, baring his small teeth and giving a squeaky yowl as he went to work on the bush his tail was caught on, growling and tearing at the leaves and sticks hanging onto it. Mashina didn't dare pull his tail back and away from the brush, fearing the pain of a few yanked out hairs.

Suddenly, his jaws clamped down onto something odd. Very odd. Gritting his teeth before letting out a 'Hrm?', the klippy cast his eyes down to look at what exactly it was that he was eating that moment. It was green, a much lighter shade than the leaves he'd been munching on. Perhaps some grass that had gotten stuck in the bush?

...Or maybe fur?

It was. The feeling of it tightly chomped down upon in his mouth was all too familiar to him, all those fights and battles with predators and prey making it a common thing to remember in his head. "..'S fur! What th' heck?!" He mumbled with a snort, grunting afterward as he spat out the tail tuft with a bit of disgust.

Light blue eyes now wide, the young cub let out a cry, pain shooting up from the tip of his tail to all over him. Perhaps that was a little exaggerated. "Ow!" But still, it hurt! Mash' gave a whine and flicked his ears back, frowning as he tried to tug his tail away from whatever it was that was causing all this unusual hurting. That hurt a bit, the pulling of his tail tuft away from the snaring twigs and leaves, but at last, it was out!

Cautiously, the cub took a few steps toward the strange bush, puffing out his chest like a stereotypical male and putting on a brave face. He had to be a man! And besides, plants didn't attack lions!.. Right? "Watch it, bush!"

Okay...

What?

A look of pure confusion overcame Ruul'dolph's face as he heard someone's voice, apparently close by. Very close by. Hearing Mash's "Watch it, bush!" made the male give an unexpected chuckle, causing him to try and stifle his laugh, but failing horribly. Was this other critter daft in the head? Bushes didn't talk. Snorting and head shaking at the ridiculous question coming to a stop, the klipspringer let out a breath and made his way through the bush, pushing a rather startled cub back easily.

"Damn stupid children these days.. Back in m' day..." Ruul' gave a shake of his head and cast his red-eyed gaze at the feline. "Kid, there ain't no such thing as a talkin' bush."

"Uuf!" Falling back on his hindquarters clumsily with a 'thump!', Mashina was barely able to right himself from falling completely backwards by planting his front paws between his hind ones. Seated much like a teddy bear on a shelf, the cub looked at the creature in front of him with curiosity and some confusion. So this was what had talked? "O-oh. Sorry, sir." He said, giving a small nod of his head in apology to the herbivore before putting on a polite smile.

He shouldn't stutter. He had to be a man! Strong, confident, protecting..

Mash' gave a droop of his ears at the klipspringer's words. "I'm not stupid." He stated with a long lined frown across his lips, keeping it on for a moment before replacing it with a scowl. "If I'm stupid- and I'm not! - you're even stupid.. stupid-er." The youngster struggled a bit in his attempt to come up with another word, failing. He gave a childish huff and glared at the prey beast. "You tried to eat my tail!

Stupid-er? The klippy let out a throaty growl, stomping closer to the lion and pushing his red nose against the cub's with a butt of his own head forward. "No. Wrong. Yer' jus' a stupid kid!" He retorted, purposely snorting loudly as he gave a light shove at the youngster's muzzle with his forehead suddenly. "Hah!"

'Old' Ruul'dolph wasn't about to be talked back to by a mere lion cub!

"H-hey. Hey!" Mashina stumbled over his own words as the strange creature moved towards him, blinking in surprise as he was pushed back yet again. He fell back completely this time, sprawled out flat on his back with the herbivore looking down at him with a look of amusement. What a rude thing he was!

"I'll get my mom to eat you. Or even my siblings." He threatened, giving a small growl and scrabbling to get himself back up onto his feet. Wait a minute.. This guy was an outsider! "Hey! You aren't supposed to be here, mister!" Mash' cried out, all at once rolling off his back and pushing the klipspringer backwards. Haha! Romping off to the side to try and leap at the stranger, he clamped his small teeth down on the ruff of his brown furred neck. He would drag him away if he had to! "Ger' away!" He muttered through a mouthful of dark brown fur, determined to get this outsider out of the pride's territory.

Hurray! The perfect training opportunity!

Why that lil'.. Giving a thrash of his head, Ruul' managed to get the 'little man' off before huffing audibly. The biting from the cub caused him only the mildest of pain, pin pricks compared to the other injuries he'd endured living out in the wilds. What a lil' pest! "Fine then!" He said with a grumpy snarl, kicking a hind hoof back to stir up some dust in the kid's face. Hmph. Beginning to trot away, Ruul'dolph scrunched his little red nose in annoyance. "Stupid." He called out in an unusually childish tone, flicking his stumpy tail. There'd be other bushes elsewhere.

He hadn't been planning to eat lion anyways.
