Fauzi was as nervous as a young dog could be out on his own for the first time. His parents made it clear that he was at the age where he could decide for himself if he wished to stay in the pack... So he chose to wander... at a safe distance of course, in case he needed to flee. Hoping that wasn't the case, he gazed over the horizon. It was an infinite sea of gravel, littered with occasional boulders and trees. Nothing horrendously exciting... Yet. Fauzi placed his 'lucky' blue paw on a golden boulder. It was exactly like the boulders at home. For some reason it struck him as different. Then again, everything in this new world is different... yet exactly the same.

The young dog shook his head. He wondered how his siblings would manage on their own like this? He knew quite a few were staying in the pack. Perhaps that was the best choice... But as the inexperienced dog was preoccupied with his thoughts, a slimy, uncomfortable sensation engulfed his paw. He yelped loudly, leaping in his fright away from the creature that nearly consumed his entire leg! But when he felt he was at a safe distance, he narrowed his red eyes, but could not see what horrid creature had startled him so badly.

Frightened that the monster might return, Fauzi spun around on his paws and continued on at a considerably quicker pace.

Algani had watched the encounter from further up on the rocks, hidden between two of them with just her mottled snout sticking through. It was cute, in an incredibly clumsy way, that he had been so afraid. But wait, where was he going? The young female leapt silently down the boulders from her hiding place, quick enough to stay behind him but not so fast that she would make too much noise. Where was he going now? Her colored ear flipped back in confusion, that would be a shame, he'd only just gotten here. Without realizing it she got lost in her thoughts and sped up, now walking nearly beside him.

The inexperienced male continued on through the gravel and grass, past boulders upon boulders that all looked so similar. He was so keen on viewing his environment that he hadn't even noticed the female stalking behind him from a distance. Fauzi's pace slowed to a cautious trot as an intense, burning pain scorched the back of his head. This was the sensation he got when he knew someone was watching him.

Was it that thing that attacked him from beneath the boulder?

"GAH!" Fauzi took a daring peek from the corner of his eye, only to find that someone was indeed following him. The young dog stumbled onto his side with the explosion of fear, scrambling to save his life... But when the timid dog realized that his predator was just a friendly-looking stranger, his pale cheeks flushed with color.

"Oh, uh..." He casually returned to his paws. "I'm sorry. You uh... surprised me." He briefly checked his fur for dirt or stains from the earth. "I've never seen you around before. My name is Fauzi." His red eyes met hers, and his tail swayed with relief. Being in the presence of a stranger is better than being alone, there was no doubt about that.

The bright dog jumped back at the other's yelp, unsure what exactly she had expected his reaction to be. She tipped her head to the side as he stood, trying to figure out how to respond. "I ah," she mumbled, "Was watching you?" She never was good with first impressions. Seeing that he was not upset she too began to wag her tail, an amused smile coming over her face, "I'm Algani, and I don't think I've been here before." Had she? Who knew, her mother had been a rogue and she too was, she hadn't much use for knowing the pack lands.

"You were... eh... watching me?" Fauzi's tail slowly stopped wagging in his unease. Watching is what a predator did with its prey before the kill. Is that was this was to her? A game of the hunt? Well, probably not... because Fauzi was still alive... And he wasn't running for his life, either. At least, not yet.

But then the female offered her name, and the wag in the blue dog's tail slowly returned. "Algani, that's a neat name." He replied with a grin. "Mmm... You probably haven't been here before." Fauzi's red eyes flicked over the bright female's form. "I mean... I haven't seen you around before. And I live here." He snickered, but quickly stopped and corrected himself. "I mean, I live over there." He nodded in the direction he came, across the sand and grass speckled with vegetation. "My pack is out there. I was just out exploring for the first time."

Realizing he just rambled, Fauzi quickly stopped talking. It's rude to ramble, mother always said. The young dog looked frantically from the female's face, and back to the ground again. What should he say next? "So uhm... uh.. Where are you from? Do you have a pack?"

Algani seemed confused by his rambling, but confusing chatter was chatter nonetheless and she had been awfully bored the last few days. A pack lived here? Curious, she thought, surely she would have smelled something when she was coming in. Maybe she was losing her touch. She'd have to be more careful, not every pack accepted rogues in the area. But this one seemed alright. She laughed a bit at his question, was she from a pack? Too constricting. "No, I'm from here there and everywhere, and I prefer to run by myself or with whatever friends want to run with me," she told him, as if it were the most normal of life options. She preferred not to be tied down to any one location or family, so instead she had several.

Fauzi's over-sized ears perked with excitement as Algani began to speak. "So you're... You're a rogue? A real rogue?" His tail's wagging became rapid as he bounced in place. "My momma's told me stories about rogues!" The young dog strained himself to hold still. Some folks find your hyperactivity to be annoying, mother said. After all, Fauzi wanted to make a good impression on the first rogue he's ever met. He sat his butt down in the dirt, his spazzing tail sending gravel and dirt in all directions.

"I want to try it." He said firmly after a long pause. "Being a rogue, I mean. But I don't want to leave my family behind, either." A firm frown split the young dog's face as the thought began to plague him. "What would you do if that happened to you?" Fauzi tilted his head at this new friend, hoping she might shed some light on this difficult dilemma.
