Kido you wish to learn (#):

Bakudo: 21, 26, 30, 37
Hado: 31

Setting: The outskirts of Soul Society where one's full potential may be trained for. This particular day the night has just fallen, the warmth of the sun slowly fading in to the rays of the moon with a lake offering the rich scent of water and life. Above, dancing amongst the stars, are thousands if not millions of souls as they enter the Soul Society for the first time after console. As the souls come down they produce an aurora effect much like that of the Northern Lights in the world of the living.

Yamoto laid in the pasture watching the star in the sky. "Night training session are rather rare. This should be enjoyable." The captain sighed in content at his surroundings. "This is relaxing."

[Eep. Sorry for not giving you much to work with. I had to get off to do calculus.]

"I'm glad you like it Captain Yamoto." The voice echoed over the pasture and mimicked the chill of the evening air. Not more then five feet from the captain stood Lerato in his usual white blazer and white baggy pants; his hair was starting to grow long with laziness, as did his facial hair allowing him the appearance of a man just under thirty or so years old. He leaned back on his heels and watched as the souls above danced about, before making their way to the ground where they would start their life anew. "Sad part is most of them will never remember the trip from their past life to this one. Only a handful will ever get to see something like this, fewer still will know what they're watching and if we're lucky a fraction of those will not only have the spiritual strength to become a shinigami, but the desire to truly make a difference for what ever reason."

Turning to look down at his trainer he made a quick, deep bow. "Thanks for taking me in on such short notice by the way." He straightened his back, his signature crooked smile tilting his lips slightly to the right. "Let me formally introduce myself: Lerato DeClement, fifth seat of the first division." Standing at ease with his thumbs just barely inside his pockets he waited. He wasn't quite sure what he was waiting for, but he knew that in time it would make itself apparent.

"A pleasure to meet you. Now shall we get started." Yamoto stood up and walked a few away from the shinigami. "You ready for this." The first kido you will learn is Bakudo 21. The key to spell is the build up and release. Yamoto drew his hand back in position so that the only direction it could go was down. He then began to build up reiatsu in his hand to the point where it was visible. The fun thing about the spell is there is hardly any reiatsu control involved seeing as it is used for quick escapes. Yamoto thrusted his hand towards the ground. The final key is to release the reiatsu before the hand touches the ground so you get this affect. Bakudo 21. Red-Smoke Escape." A large cloud of red smoke suddenly erupted around Yamoto making him completly undetectable by the eye. A few seconds later Yamoto walked out of the cloud coughing a little. "Final thing make sure to hold your breath."

Lerato nodded silently to let the Captain know that he was, in fact, ready. Paying close attention he took note of Yamoto's stance down to the way he planted his feet as he prepared for the kido. "Build up and release. Sounds easy enough." Despite his shaky beginnings Lerato had grown in to quite the profficent kido caster. Lerato raised his hand with a constant stream of reiatsu accumalating in his palm. "Bakudo 21, Red-Smoke Escape." With that he took a deep breath and thrust his hand towards the ground, releasing the kido just before his hand came in contact with the earth below. Following the Captain's instructions to the Tee a plume of smoke rose up around him, engulfing him in a crimson-hued smoke. Lerato quickly walked to the edge of the cloud and started to rub his eyes. "It burns like a..." Biting his tongue he remembered his manners and instead just grumbled for a few minutes as he cleared his now watering eyes. "Please tell me that goes away the more you use it..."

Stretching he nodded in the direction in the fifth division leader. “Alright, now what?” Hey laughed breathing in the rich scent of the surrounding vegetation. The night was still young, and despite his best attempts to keep focused he found that he kept getting lost in the moment.

"You catch on fast." Yamoto smiled as he began to enjoy the night time spectacle more. "The next kido is for the sole purpose of hiding or stealth. It is activated by forming a film of reiatsu around your body almost making a second layer of skin. As you know reiatsu has the power to manipulate natural entities. We normally see this when the ground breaks under us by an extreme build up of reiatsu. This kido uses natural light to make one completely invisible."

Yamoto breathed in and closed his eyes. "The amount of reiatsu is key in this spell because not only does this spell hide you physically, but it also hides your spiritual pressure. If you have to much reiatsu in the second skin you do get the second effect of the spell and stronger foes will know you are in the area. If that happens being physical invisible is useless." The captain began to emit reiatsu almost out of every pore. Yamoto was soon encased in a small film of reiatsu that covered the shinigami entire body. The captain smiled as he could fell the light from the sun being pulled towards by the reiatsu around him. "Bakudo 26. Curved Light." Yamoto completely disappeared from the area for a good 10 seconds. He reappeared behind his squad member with his fingers to Leroto 's neck. "I have a feeling you are going to have fun with this one, but use it on the enemy our just no one in our squad."

"Thanks. The professors at the academy used to tell me that; I guess I didn't believe them. Then again with my history it'd be foolish to think they were being anything short of sarcastic." He laughed. With a quick burst of light his reiatsu flared to life, smoldering down until it was barely more then a millimeter thick against his skin. A warmth started to surround him as light was drawn towards his new 'skin'. 'Concentrate. Become one with your surroundings. Be the moon and the stars, the pasture and the lake.' "Bakudo 26, Curved Light." Even before he had voiced the classification and number of the kido his form was fading, but with the name and number of the bakudo Lerato was gone. 'It feels...light.' It was the only way that the fifth seat could describe it. It was almost as if when the photons of light bent around him that it made him weigh less, and it even made his head feel out of sorts and made it hard to concentrate.

Stepping a foot or two away from the captain he turned and raised his index finger and middle finger to meet the captain's. "You don't have to worry Sir, I wouldn't be stupid enough to try and outcast a member of the fifth. That would be suicide, something Fefnir tends to look down on." He smiled, his half grin just barely revealing the tips of his teeth. "So, what's next on the agenda?"

"Good now for another bakudo spell." Yamoto sighed as pointed to the wall behind them. "Unfortunatly this spell is only effective if the spell makes contact with something solid. So it is useless in a field battle with no large trees or boulder around." Yamoto breathed in as he held up his hand. The hand began to glow with yellow reiatsu. "The key to this kido is to draw an inverted triangle in the air with reiatsu focusing most of the reiatsu at each tip." Yamoto swiped his hand through the air leaving behing a golden upside down triangle. The corners of the triangle seemed to glow far brighter then the bases. "Now the next step in push the reiatsu towards the intended object of binding." Yamoto focused for a moment as the tips of the triangle began to change shape becoming long narrow beaks or arrows. "Finally, Bakudo 30. Beak-Piercing Triple Beam" The three arrows or beaks shot toward the wall and made contact. The wall's wood cracked showing that the spell was designed to hold someone against the wall. "Your turn."

He bit his bottom lip and nodded. 'I'll have to remember that.' Moving to Yamato's left he waited until he was instructed to practice the bakudo. His left arm raised, index finger already aglow with yellow energy. Lerato took a few deep breaths as he slowly pulled back the effort it took to fill the imaginary 'tap' that it took to fuel the kido. Closing his eyes he pictured three arrows set in an inverted equilateral triangle and began to connect them with a thin line of yellow. Once he had finished connecting the three points he opened his eyes to see a perfect triangle with what seemed to be barbed arrows at each of the vertices. "Bakudo #30 Beak-Piercing Triple Beam." As soon as the kido made contact with the wooden wall small spider webs etched out from the three arrows. "Seems like it'd hurt to be slammed against a wall with that type of force..." He winced.

"Captain Yamato.." he began, unsure if the question he was about to ask common or not, "in some of the public records I've come across different things that spoke about double incantations. I've had a question about it for a while now, and finally thought who better to ask then you. After all, you are the Captain of the fifth division. In all of the examples I've come across, only two kido of similar format, that is two bakudo or hado, have been combined for a novel result. So, is it possible to combine kido of differing formats, or even more then two of the same?"

He decided to practice while he waited for the answer. Turning away from Yamato he once again called upon the reserves of energy stored within him and started to focus it at the tip of his finger. This time he visualized the arrows with his eyes open, watching them come to life as his index finger moved over each of them in turn. The triangle he created this time was a great deal smaller then the one previously made, each side of the shape no more then three inches long. The intensity of the light was almost like looking into a sun. 'Damn these things get bright...' "Bakudo # 30, Beak-Piercing Triple Beam." His words came out hushed, as though he were speaking in a strict library, but as the triangle flew forward it created a slight whistling sound and an even louder noise as the wood cracked. There were deep indentations in the wood that created a perfect outline of the kido, crossing spider webbed lines reaching outwards and perfectly straight lines reaching into the exact middle. "Ouch..."

"Well, it seems as though I have that one down pretty well. What now, El Capitan?" He asked, looking up into the night sky. The souls had slowed down, leaving just a hint of color over the water. 'I wonder what the lot of them are doing right about now...' He pondered, thinking back to both his own family, and the people he had stayed with for the short time before being admitted to the shinigami academy. 'Now that I think of it... I wonder what Zaine's been up to. I haven't seen his a** around here that much either. I'll have to make it a point to go visit him when I'm done.'

Yamoto smiled as the question Lereto asked was one he hadn't heard in a while. "It is extremely possible to fire a hado and bakudo spell at the same time. It is known as double casting and is very advanced for most people. It takes considerable concentration to focus on firing two different types of spells which is why all the records you have seen have showed only successful attempts in the very lowest levels of kido, but enough about this, on to you next spell."

Yamoto walked over to a an area of trees and stood in the middle of five trees arranged in a pentagon shape. "This kidou is rather tricky, but very useful." Yamoto raised his right hand and pointed it towards the sky. "First off you have to make sure you have anchor points around you, so the spell can attach it self. Next you must focus your reiatsu slightly above you as if you about to shield yourself from an attack. After that you must send you reiatsu out in five different directions and attach it the anchor you picked in the beginning." Yamoto breathed in for a moment as he looked up at the sky. "Bakudo 37. Suspending Star" Just above Yamoto appeared a net of reiatsu that attacked itself to the trees Yamoto had picked out earlier.

Lerato nodded, mind swarming with a plethora of new questions that he wanted to ask, walking about ten meters or so away from the white haired man. 'Only in the lowest levels of kido, eh. I wonder just how well he could use double casting.' He let his mind wander as he prepared for the net-like spell. 'Imagine how powerful someone would be if they were able to combine high level spells.' Looking over his shoulder at the Captain he wondered just how much the man hid from the rest of the Sereitei. "One day... One day, you'll be able to look back and say you taught one of the few people to be able to use double casting of high level kido." He whispered the promise to himself. Even to him it sounded outlandish. Looking back he realized he had forgotten about his spell and the five point were now illuminating the area with a bright blue glow. "s**t!" Without a second though he split he concentration into two more focus point and let the power of the spell split between them until it fizzled out, unable to remain stable. "That could have been bad." He flashed back to a time when he was first learning the basic kido that every shinigami were taught and remembered just how disastrous a spell could be if you overwhelmed it. 'Get your head in the game, Lerato.'

Rolling his shoulders he singled out his five original anchors again. Raising his hand above him he saw what was to become a sheet of tangible energy which slowly hooked itself to the anchors provided. "Bakudo # 37, Suspending Star." Upon speaking the incantation the edges of the sheet connected with the anchors and started to droop ever so slightly. "That's better." A smile lifted the edges of his lips until his face had achieved an almost boy-ish look to it.

A few minutes later the energy net faded away into nothing, it's source of power having ran out without Lerato's constant up keeping. "Alright, let's try to get this one on the first time, shall we?" It would probably seem odd talking to himself in retrospect, but at the time he thought nothing of it. Raising his right arm above him this time he concentrated on creating a thin, tight sheet of energy. Once it was created he slowly moved it up to attach it to five evenly spread out trees. "Looks like a trampoline almost." He laughed as he stood back and admired his work. Walking to the edge of the net he picked up a sizable rock and tossed it up, watching as it bounced a few times before tearing through and making the kido disintegrate.

"Say, Captain... just how proficient are you with double casting?" An eyebrow raised as he jogged back to where the man was. "I mean to say... if you so wanted to, could you use it with higher level spells?" He inquired, leaning against a tree as he waiting for the next kido to be presented. "And how long would take someone to learn such a skill?" He asked the question nonchalantly, rubbing the stubble that had grown on his face over the last few days.

The captain laughed at the question. "You sure are interested with double casting, but to answer your question I can cast up to low 70's. It takes a skilled kido user to learn how to double cast, to the point of one must be proficient in kido up to level 60 before advance kido techniques such as double casting or silent casting can be even considered. So time wise it all depends on how fast you can master spells which varies from person to person."

Yamoto took a deep breath and slowly let it out just to become focused once again. "Now I want you to memorize what I am about to say. Ye lord. Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man. Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south. Hado 31. Shot of Red Fire." A red ball of energy, about the size of a tennis ball, formed in front of Yamoto's hand. In less than a second the kido spell fired from the captain's hand and flew at it's intended target which was a tree. The spell collided with the target causing an explosion of heat and spiritual energy. The smoke cleared in a matter of moments after that explosion had occured. "Guess I overdid it a little." Yamoto frowned as he had only meant to cause a small hole in the tree. Instead he had caused most of the tree to disappear." All right pick a tree adjust your reiatsu accordingly so that you cause the tree to look like the one I just hit, but mind you try to minimize the amount of reiatsu you use or it might be bad for you. "

"Well, you know what they say, 'A man is only as good as the knowledge he possesses.'" He laughed, taking note of what he was saying. "So you are capable of teaching those with innate ability how to use such things?" He asked, as if planning out later ideas. 'So I have to learn up to level sixty before he'll even consider it...' "How many other people do you know that can double cast?" He tried to make the question seem like casual conversation as he readied himself in front of the of the same tree that Yamoto had just blown a hole in, targeting the tree a few meters behind it. "Ye Lord. Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings," he could feel the kido building up in his hand, a red ball bursting to life just before him, "ye who bears the name of Man. Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south." The ball of red fire was slightly smaller then a softball by the time he had finished the incantation and was ready to release it. "Hado #31 Shot of Red Fire." He pushed the ball forward, watching it zoom away and smash into it's target. Smoke clouded their vision for close to three minutes before a slight breeze chose to reveal to them the destruction. Though the ball itself was larger then the Captain's, the actual size of the hole in the tree was a good four inches smaller over all with a slightly rougher edge to it then the first.
