Rimmel London - The Max Volume Flash Mascara
User Image
i bought this mascara at a drugstore for around 10 dollars. decent enough.
the package claims "skinny to fat in 10 seconds flat : lashes pumped to max volume".
now my lashes took more than 10 seconds to be as dramatic as i like them to be, but i did like the outcome.
i also liked the brush, it had very long bristles and you can't really tell in the picture, but they were spaced out and placed kind of wrapped around the brush. idk it was cool i like it.
it also boasts "14 x volume". ehhhh i wouldn't say that but it did make my lashes very dramatic and dark and long and lucious and everything good with mascara.
ALSOO i walked home in 22 degree weather and sweat and wore it all day and it didn't smudge or flake and i didn't have black under my eyes when i got home. that is a huuuge plus, i know it will stay in place.
there were no clumps at all, as well. also another huge plus.

honestly, i can't think of anything bad to say about this mascara except for the fact that i had to put on so many coats, but you guys probably prefer a less dramatic look than i do, so it might not take as many coats to get a desired look. :>
soooo for that drawback i give it 4.5 stars overall.

yeah the pictures just speak for themselves.
my lashes take very well to mascara, so you may not get the exact same results that i did. this review was based purely on opinion.

Max Factor - False Lash Effect

User Image

this week i will be reviewing Max Factor's false lash effect mascara which i bought at Boots for £10.99 which is a pretty average price for a mascara here.

i've never had my own mascara before, i've always stolen my mum's, so now with me going off to uni i popped into town to pick up some essentials while mother did her shopping, we met up in Boots which was probably a big help what with her being a professional makeup putter-onner. i didn't want to be dropping a load of cash on the Clinique makeup and skincare i've adopted from mum over the years because to be honest, my skin isn't that sensitive and i don't want the panic of running out and not being able to afford more so she recommended Max Factor.

if it were any other brand of 'false lash look' i probably wouldn't have bought it. i have a huge pet peeve about these new mascaras claiming to give a false lash effect while the models prance around my tv set with 5 sets of false eyelashes on. i just think there's something inherently wrong with that, it's blatent false advertising for a start, and then it makes you question the product. if the people marketing it have no faith in it on its own how am i, the consumer, expected to?

however, this was Max Factor's false lash effect mascara, which weeks previously i had praised for showing models wearing - shock, horror - their OWN rather lovely eyelashes in their tv advertisement. sure, it didn't look as great as the big false ones on some commercials and the advert wasn't the best either. but the simple act of actually showing me the product without any distractions won me over. that and the fact it had more liquid in than others i looked at. (13.1ml)

now, i was never expecting miracles. i have the finest, shortest eyelashes you could ever see anywhere but on a baby. which is why i always wear mascara (and usually a slick of eyeliner). and when i first popped the wand out of the tube i was a little disappointed. it was pretty big yeah, and it had lots of bristles but towards the very tip (which i would usually use to coat my lower lashes to avoid too much smudging) the bristles were extremely short. comparable only to my very own feeble eyelashes. and when i say short i mean almost non-existent. it's more like a spatula. but i persevered, wiped off the excess liquid that had coated my nice new spatula brush and promptly brushed mascara all over my eyelid and into my eyebrows. the brush definitely takes some getting used to, but i carried on trying and got the hang of it after a couple of tries and all i can say is thank goodness i did! the results were far beyond what i had expected, i can definitely see that if you had somewhat normal sized lashes this would be a 'false lash look'. on me, it makes me look like i actually have eyelashes and then some! i could not be more pleased with this product and would definitely recommend it. after a day's wear it stays on pretty well, i got no mascara goop in the corner of my eye, just a few flakes that were easily brushed away. and well, that's to be expected with the rate my eyes water.

here you can see the before shot of my lashes 100% natural (top) and below it, with the mascara. i did not curl my eyelashes or add anything other than the mascara.

as you can see, the difference is huge and there's no clumping.
