It was...odd. Knowing her cubs were the same age she was when she'd dragged Tama out to find Muscail. The crimson-eyed lioness smiled. She was proud of them, though. Even if it had been hard at first. Even the ones that looked most like their father and his side of the family made her proud. Chavah and Rangi, her two little warriors. (Well...not so little anymore.) And then her three tricksters. She was proudest of them, in all truth. They'd taken after her in the sacred duty of keeping egos to a managable level and sneaky bastards out of the Pridelands.

Well...okay, it wasn't a 'sacred' duty, but it was a job that needing doing nonetheless. Especially since Pridelanders tended to be a soft bunch. She knew there were exceptions, but over all...her kin and pride-kin were NOT fighters.

Mchezacha'hila was growing older as the days went by physically. He could feel the new strength in his limbs as he walked. In a fit of maturity, Mchezacha had begun to work on hunting. He was a hunter now, by the pride ranks. It was, by far, one of his favorite ranks. While he did have responsibility in the pride now, it wasn't overbearing. Hunting was simple and, often, over with quickly. He was too young to want for much else than free time to play pranks and tell jokes to the younger cubs.

In truth, spending time with cubs was his favorite time of the day, but being a nanny was a female's job. So he stuck to hunting during the early hours of the day, playing in the afternoon, and in the evening, spending time with his family.

As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, slowly but surely, Mchezacha left the company of the cubs and headed back to his family den, picking up the pace as he neared it. It didn't seem to be that any of his siblings were home yet. He wondered if even Irit was back yet. "Mom?" He called as he neared the den, looking around curiously as his dark-rimmed ears perked up beneath his growing red mane.

Irit's own black ears perked up as she heard the first of her lot return home. Speaking of tricksters...

"Near the back, Mchezacha!" She'd gotten an odd artistic moment, and had decided to make a 'family portrait' on a nice flat portion of the den wall. It was simple, and done in berry juice...but it was recognizable as her and her cubs. She was rather proud of it herself, since she didn't often try making things recognizable beyond 'lion' or 'gazelle' or some such.

His ears perked as he heard Irit, and he grinned, heading back farther into the den. "You missed it, Ma!" He said as he wandered back into the den, yawning a bit as he travelled towards his mother's voice. "Some bird set off my mud trap, you remember that one? With the rock and the twigs?" He snickered.

It was rather ingenious, that trap. The poor bird had been covered head to tow in muck, but that made it all the funnier. Sure, he had to dodge like, six or seven birds coming after his hide for that, but damned if it wasn't hilarious. But his reminiscing was cut short when he saw the portrait on the cave wall. He grinned. "Oh, who's that handsome devil!" He said dryly, noting the cubs in berry-juice. "Y'know, I don't think you made Rangi's head big enough." He beamed innocently.

Irit laughed, nodding. "I do remember. I'm glad it worked well! I am sorry I missed it...but I think my lovely masterpiece makes up for it, don't you think?" She gave her son a wicked grin. "You think so, hm? Well...in that case, I don't think I made YOUR head big enough either, my not-so-little trickster. You have grown quite a bit since cubhood..."

If there was one bit of mothering she was good at, it was making sure egos didn't get TOO big around her. Now around others, she couldn't help. But herself...well, they could stroke their own egos to a certain point around her, she'd give them that.

"Oh, more than makes up for it." Mcheza agreed, laughing at Irit's joke. "Are you saying I'm getting a fat head?" He asked dryly, grinning easily at his mother. "'Cause I don't think I can argue with you there." He scoffed dramatically. "But Rangi's head is still bigger than mine."

"So where is everyone, anyway?" He asked, sitting back and looking towards the den's only entrance. At least, the only open one. Mcheza had found one or two ways out when he was littler that he couldn't use anymore, but he still knew where they were. "I'd have thought someone'd beat me home." Mcheza was losing his touch at strolling in just in the nick of time, apparently! Woe.

Irit's grin 'softened' into a smirk. "Perhaps...he IS bigger than you after all." She chuckled and licked a berry-coated paw. "Then again, so is Chavvah. I think it's being a warrior that does it." Her odd little warriors. She did still love them, however. She'd even managed to get past their resemblances to their father and his line.

"Out and about. I'm not entirely sure where Rangi and Adaya ran off to. Taamuli's off being mischievous. And Chavvah's likely to be home soon. You know her stomach. She eats as much as you boys!"

Mcheza scoffed. "I think it's just 'cause they eat their bodyweight in food." He said bluntly, grinning a little. "Warriors gotta be big." He sat back, patting his belly with a paw, and laughed a little, shaking his head. He perked a little at the mention of his siblings, and snorted.

"This is awful, Mom. I should be out there making trouble." He grumbled in jest. Having time with his mother to himself was kind of nice. He didn't often come home first, so when he was home, usually his siblings were already there. He loved his family, but more often than not was toying the line between the rogue lands and the pride lands. The wandering gene in him, no doubt. "I bet Chavvah'll be running in with her stomach growling any minute." He said with a scoff, stretching out to lay down.
