Hey guys! I was talking to my friend and started to wonder why there isn't a Faerie survival guide anywhere (if there is please let me know!) So i've decided to make my own! I will put down a few of the things I came up with. I would love to hear your ideas!
-If you do see the Fae, DO NOT let them know. Seelie or Unseelie, they will hurt you. -Always keep iron on hand...just in case a situation goes bad. -If he's drop dead gorgeous, has "something about him", and hes checking you out? Run, he may be one of the Tuatha De Dannan.

Um there is such a thing out there already. It's called the SpiderWick Guide to the Fantastical World Around You. It teaches all sorts of things to do in order to protect yourself from the fay. Another great one is the Faerie Bible. Which is the book that most fae tend to go by.

Well, it could still be helpful to have something like this on the site, right? For people to look at?

Alright then let's start it? we could create the thread, I'll do it right now. Feel free to post links to pictures, poems, post anything you like in there and we can create our own survival guide to keep for ourselves as well as to give out to the younger generations.

not all faeries are bad you cant just say they will hurt you because a lot of them wont bother you at all and some will help you in the right circumstances. Its ages and ages of fear and superstitions that have created the idea that all faeries will harm you. Unseelie faeries are more likely to harm you but even they can be dealt with if you know what your doing.

We did actually start the survival guide and I think that it's for respect purpouses as well as to keep out of harm.

saying all faeries are bad is like saying all humans are bad. Some faeries are the very depths of evil while others wouldn't harm a fly. The problem is knowing the difference.
Personally I never bought the iron weakness thing. I mean we have iron in our blood so wouldn't that repel them on its own?
The iron in my blood never bothered the fairy soul that attached itself to me.

The iron in my blood never bothered the fairy soul that attached itself to me. I don't think anyone is saying all faeries are bad. I know I'm not, trust me I have my own guardians and friends from the realm. This guild wouldn't be around if we thought all faeries are bad. But even the nice faeries and the faeries who come into the human realm meaning no harm want some forms of respect. There are certain respects that some of the faeries appreciate to be friendly and open. I know that even my guardian when she met me told me of being respectful and polite to all the fae that came around or they'd leave and never come back. I don't remember where the guide went in the guild but I certainly never meant any of the input I put in to say all faeries are bad. But what I think most were trying to get across is that not all faeries are the sweet balls of light coming to help make shoes, kiss you goodnight and be kind in general. What I think we were trying to get across is just as you're saying not all faeries are bad we're saying not all faeries are good. I do believe more than once I've seen quite a few people type that faeries aren't good or bad, they're whatever they feel like being at the time. The unseelie are more often darker and in so end up being more violent but that doesn't mean they can't be nice, and the seelie are seen more as the light and nice but that doesn't mean that they can't be violent. Faeries are just like people, complicated, and yes coming across as we are generalizing them from time to time is inaccurate but I don't feel in the long run that anyone here means that all faeries are the same.

I do that sometimes without meaning too. I agree with everything you said. My fairy side (Cynthia is her name) is about as nice and kind as you can get, but she does have some nasty things after her that I am only just beginning to understand. Actually even saying that is going a bit too far. I know she is a Sidhe and is Seelie but other then that I know very little about Cynthia other then that I love her like the sister I never had and as an important part of myself. Anyway Im digressing. Yes there are fairies out there, both seelie and unseelie that could be considered quite evil, and there are those that are the opposite and there are neutral ones as well. When dealing with fairies you have to know the rules of the particular fairy in order to get out of it safely. Unfortunately that isn't always easy.

I thought this should be mentioned. If you are ever in a forest and a mysterious woman tries to lead you somewhere make sure you get a look at her back at some point. She might be a Huldra and seeing the hollow on her back is the way to dispel her.
If she does manage to lure you inside her house then that's where you get to spend eternity. Possibly as a mindless sex toy (this might appeal to some people though).
I don't know if there are male ones. Some stories say they do exist but the dispelling method would be the same for them too. Just make sure you see them from behind.
Usually the capture fae have little loopholes like this that allow for escape.

MayHem Chick i honestly thought fairies were good...lmao i didnt think they be mean enough to hurt you. but as i got older i started seeing them in different ways. but omg hey now im going to buy those 2 books! faeries are often times just like people. They can be either good or bad and it's not always easy to tell the difference. Since they have magicks at their disposal it is best to act with caution.
