Zurvan was enjoying his time in Kizuka's pride. It was peaceful, quiet, and he felt relaxed here. He wasn't ready to leave yet; part of him hoped that his son Spenta would arrive and he could meet him, apologize for what he'd done so many years ago. It was a burden that Zurvan dealt with each and every day that passed, and while the grief had lessened it would never disappear completely. He'd come to terms with that.
Zurvan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Kizuka had brought into the world lovely cubs, and though he'd often spotted Angra's cub, Zurvan hadn't yet felt comfortable enough to hold a conversation with the brightly colored boy. Today he would close that gap.

Bagrat was situated away from most of the cubs his age, instead sitting down in a comfortable spot of grass near a patch of sand. Rather than playing games or attempting sport, he was babysitting, so to speak, for one of Kizuka's cubs.
He'd really only chosen this position because his cousin-slash-brother, Alfajiri'nafsi, was playing there, doing yet another of his many art projects. Jiri was a loner but also a tad touched in the head, which was why Bagrat often felt obligated to keep an eye on the boy, since most of the grownups probably had better things to do.
The cub was bizarre as all get out, and had obvious issues, but he was harmless and meant well for the most part. He tended to not get along with the other boys - mostly on the grounds of not liking the things they were into - and he didn't get along with the females because most thought it was gross he was always covered in mess from some project or another.
At present, Jiri's coat held a slight pink tinge (from having tried to paint with berries a few days before) and he was covered from the chest down in sand. Bagrat, meanwhile, was pretty clean, save for his paws from having to step in the sand to pick up or move his cousin. It was an interesting contrast, to say the least, particularly as one was usually white and the others was a striking yellow.
The elder was the first to notice Zurvan, waving politely to him. Politeness was important seeing as Bagrat was an outsider for the most part, and his 'mother' held an important rank. "Good day." he greeted, figuring the lion was just passing by. At Bagrat's speech, Jiri looked up, waving a sandy paw, "Lo Gra'paw." he greeted, liking his paternal grandfather at least enough to call him that.

Zurvan seated himself near the boys, watching them both intently. He'd met neither of them face to face, so it was an interesting first experience to say the least. Clearing his throat the older lion nodded in greeting to the older boy before peering at the white (albeit pink-stained) cub that was interested in the sand he was currently messing about in. "Hello, children."
Not wanting to draw Jiri's attention away from his current project, Zurvan turned to Bagrat. He was every inch the spitting image of his father, he really was. His colors were different, yes, but the wing couldn't be dismissed. He was curious as to how Bagrat would react to his next question.
"Do you remember much of your father, Bagrat?"

Bagrat blinked, at the new lion, very surprised at the question, his decision to stay, and the fact that Alfajiri even identified him as his grandfather (considering he called his other grandfather 'fogey'.) Jiri looked up again at the question, "Theluji's just down the hill." he commented, as if it'd be weird not to remember him, before going back to his work.
"Not him, Jiri, someone else." the older male assured him, waving for the cub to go back to his art. His cousin was under the impression that, because the older lion was referred to by Bagrat as his father, he must be (especially since all Jiri knew of their relationship was that Spenta was his Daddy, Theluji was not, and Bagrat was not his real brother.
"I assume you mean Angra, anyway." he commented, returning his attention to Zurvan, not actively referring to the red male as his father - Theluji was his father now, thanks.
He pondered for a few moments, "My mother didn't like him? I only remember bits and pieces of him really, he left some time after I was born." the cub said dismissively after a bit.

Zurvan offered a nod at Bagrat's assumption that he'd meant Angra. He couldn't help but smile at his other grandson. A bit of pride caused his mane to fluff a bit; Bagrat was looking after the other, younger cub. That was reassuring. Bagrat didn't seem to take after his father, at least from the terrible stories he'd heard from Kizuka. He doubted the white lioness would have any reason at all to lie.
"Do you watch after Jiri often?" he asked softly, his gaze alighting upon the artistic youngster. Kizuka's cubs were all different in their own little ways. Spenta's cubs. Zurvan's grandchildren.

Bagrat nodded, "He needs to be looked after or he'll get into trouble." the male explained, laying on his front paws a bit to watch the smaller male out of the corner of his eye, "He gets too into his art and gets himself lost or messy or hurt if he's not careful."
Jiri decided to pipe up again, being rather fond of his grandfather, and actually wanting to socialize with him. "'grat takes me home, even if I'm not finished, and he dunks me in the water if I'm covered in stuff cause he says it'll stain." That floaty monotone the cub had could get unnerving to anyone not used to it.
"And that'd be why you're pink and not red and purple." Bagrat teased back, reaching out to lightly muss the cub's mane. He already had sand in it anyway.

Zurvan chuckled fondly at the banter between the two boys. "Jiri, it sounds as if Bagrat keeps you safe. That's important. Imagine how your mother would worry if you were to be lost, or hurt? Be glad you have someone to look after you so that you can work on your art." He grinned at the boy before turning his attention back to Bagrat.
"It is good of you to take him under your wing, Bagrat. I am sure Kizuka appreciates your kindness." A faraway look crept into his eyes and he looked pained for a moment. "I am proud of you and all that you do for the pride."

Jiri shrugged, deciding instead to go back to his painting. Explaining to a grownup that he was just fine wouldn't work because grownups always seemed to think they knew best. Bagrat acted too much like a grownup too.
The older boy shrugged as well, not really willing to admit to someone he just met that he was very fond of his cousins and protective of them, "I just wanna make sure they have stuff to do since Mama and Auntie and Dad are busy so much." he mumbled, not really sure what to say to someone who wasn't his parent saying they were proud of him.

"Love for your family is an honorable trait to have, Bagrat." Zurvan's voice was gritty with emotion. "It is a trait I wish that I had when I was a younger and more able lion." He cleared his throat and shuffled a paw around before him, causing rivets to form in the sand.
Deciding a change of topic was in order, Zurvan cleared his throat again. "Do you know of Spenta?" He had to wonder if Bagrat had met his uncle before coming to the pride.

It was obvious this was an awkward topic for both of them. Bagrat because he wasn't used to being open or affectionate with anyone other than his direct family (if you count cousins and adopted relatives direct, anyway). And Zurvan because he was apparently dragging around a lot of guilt that Bagrat really wasn't sure he wanted to know about.
"He's my uncle and father to my cousins and saved my real mother once?" he inquired, pointing to Jiri as he mentioned it. "Other than that, no. Mom was looking for him when she came upon my mother and brought me home."

Zurvan knew from Kizuka that Spenta was a decent enough lion, a good lion. The kind of lion that Zurvan should have been to his own children but simply couldn't have been. Tensing his jaw, Zurvan grit his teeth. This was supposed to be a chance to get to know Bagrat and Jiri, not a pity party for Zurvan.
Exhaling softly, Zurvan smiled towards Bagrat. "I hope we both get to meet him soon enough." The words felt alien coming from his mouth. Fathers should know their children, shouldn't they? Again, feeling sorry for himself. Even to Zurvan, this was getting rather old.

"I guess." he shrugged at that, "Mom would like it anyway and the little ones probably would." For his part, Bagrat was neither one way nor the other about Spenta's appearance. He really didn't have much influence on the juve's life so far - if Spenta came, Bagrat would be cordial to him as he was Kizuka's love and the cubs' father, but other than that, it really wouldn't affect him one way or the other.
Sitting up a bit, the boy looked at the sky to check the time. "Getting close to break time, Alfajiri. Go fetch some of the big leaves to put over your picture so you can come back to it later." he told the other cub, figuring it was about lunch time by now. That and sitting here with nothing to talk about with his sort-of grandfather was weird - at least lunch would be something to discuss that didn't make Bagrat feel weird.
The pink-tinted white cub gave his cousin a look, almost ready to protest it couldn't be food time yet could it, but gave in to Bagrat's level gaze and darted off to grab the leaves. At least he'd be able to come back and finish later.

Zurvan wasn't good at this grandpa stuff yet. Maybe with time he could be, but right now there didn't seem to be much aside from awkward silences and lots of throat-clearing, at least on his part. Unless, of course, he was talking to Safura. That little one could liven up any conversation.
"I'll walk back with you," Zurvan offered, watching Jiri dash off in order to find leaves. He didn't have anywhere else to be, and even though the conversation would only revolve about lunch, that was better than nothing.

"We'd be happy to have you." Bagrat agreed, watching his 'brother' returning with the leaves. "we have to stop by the river first though." he commented in an aside before leaning in to help Jiri position the leaves.
"Okay cub, river. You've gotta get cleaned up if you're going anywhere near your sisters or food." he told the cub, nudging Jiri in that direction. It took a few nudges before the cub headed that way, but eventually he did, slowly.
Jiri looked up at Zurvan, "Is Gra'paw coming too?"

"Yes, Jiri. I'm coming too." He couldn't help but smile at the little cub. Zurvan chuckled softly, nodding in Jiri's direction though he spoke to Bagrat. "He is a rather refreshing little one." After Jiri turned to head towards the river, Zurvan waited for Bagrat to follow the younger lion before he followed at the end.
All-in-all, it had been a somewhat productive day. Though his conversation with Bagrat had been stunted at times, at least he'd bridged the gap and made somewhat proper introductions. He was thankful that Bagrat didn't seem to be anything like his father. He only hoped it would stay that way.
