Duo Makkusuweru - Truth.Be.Told
&
Kairi - Das Tor
Duo decided he rather liked Kairi. She was bright, open, kind, and had her brand of humor. She was as pretty on the inside as she was on the outside. He stretched, glad he'd been able to stick around. It was in the border area, of course, but he didn't mind. Kairi visited a lot, but...
He was starting to miss his 'twin', and the rest of his dysfunctional family. And he knew he was likely going to get scolded by his niece Kyouko for staying away too long. He sighed and flopped over a fallen log. Blah.
Kairi was off to visit Duo again, all the cubs she looked over gathered up by their parents. She held a necklace in her jaws lightly, a gift for Duo. He wouldn't be staying forever, after all. And she wanted him to have something to remember her by. It wasn't much...but perhaps it would keep her in his mind. She nearly giggled when she saw him flopped, and tried to sneak up on him.
Unlike him, however, she wasn't so stealthy. And couldn't help but giggle slightly.
Duo's ears perked up when he heard a sound, then laid back down as he smirked. Oh...she was in for a surprise. When Kairi was nearly on him, he spun around with a grin on his face as he tapped her shoulder. "Boo! Hey babe! Thought you could sneak up on me, hm?"
Kairi yelped in surprise, feeling like she was about to jump out of her skin. "Oh dear!" She giggled sheepishly, ears back. "I suppose I did. I kinda failed though, didn't I?" Oh well...he did seem to be a master at sneaking about. Of course she wouldn't manage to get the drop on him.
Duo chuckled. "Yeah. Heard you coming a few lion-lengths away. Nice try though!" He moved to sit, and noticed the necklace Kairi was holding. "Oh...another one of your pretties? You make a lot of 'em, don't ya?" This one looked a bit different though...darker, for the most part.
Kairi nodded, her smile no longer sheepish. "Yeah." She placed it at his paws. "It's for you. That way, when you go, you've got something to remember your time here by." She then settled herself next to him.
For...him? Duo looked down at the necklace, surprised. Then gave Kairi a shy smile. "Only one who's done something like that for me is my older sister Nyx..." Wow...he was definitely not used to this. But he liked the sentiment.
Kairi leaned against him. "Well, now so have I. I like you, Duo. I'll miss you when you're gone." A great deal. She was almost certain that if he stuck around...the 'like' might grow into more. But it likely wouldn't have that chance. Duo had said, after all, that he was going to be needed for something soon. Something very, very important.
Duo let her lean, picking up the necklace gingerly and wiggling about to get it put on. It was large enough to go over his head, and settle over his mane. "Thank you. I like it a lot, Kairi. And you. I'll miss you too, when I'm gone." He chuckled and nudged her shoulder. "You should come visit me someday. If I'm not in the Matembezi'wasakaji...someone there will direct you to the Ardhi'Mrvingo'Patano."
Kairi giggled and nodded. "Yeah. I can do that." She winked. "Let Sora and Riku worry over me a little for once!" She took a deep breath, enjoying Duo's larger presence beside her. "We're friends...no matter the distance between us."
Duo nodded. "Yeah. You...need something from me though." He thought a moment, then pulled the rank marker Nyx had made him so long ago from his mane. "Here...Nyx made it for me. And now...it's yours. To remind you of me." He placed it at her paws.
Kairi looked to the item at her paws, then back to Duo. "Thank you. It will remind me of our good times together, when my memory tries to fail me."
"Good. I'd be pretty hurt if you forgot all about me!" He licked one of her ears. "You've got timing too. Was thinking about leaving tomorrow. I've...kinda been missing my family. And wondering what sort of trouble my twin and niece have been getting into without me."
"Oh! Well I certainly wouldn't want your family to cause mischief without you!" The leopardess giggled and stood. "You are, after all, the king of mischief! And sneakiness. And other things you won't tell me." She gave him an amused look.
Duo grinned. "Only won't tell you so I don't lie to you. Some of the stuff I can do...you don't need to worry about. Not stuff that affects you and you home." He stood with her. "Hey...keep me company tonight? We can tell all sorts of stories, and hang out until we pass out."
Kairi nodded. "I'd like that. One last night with you." She leaned against him. "Come on...I wanna show you something, before you leave." She started off, knowing he'd follow. She was going to make the most of her last bit of time with him. At least until all was well for her to go looking to visit him.
