About Rook

Name: Rook Conners
Background:
Rook is a young man that emerged as a small child from one of Dr. Akari’s cabbages. He had a fairly normal upbringing with a mother who ran a convenience store and two sisters as company. As he approached his teen years Rook began to discover truths about what he was beyond a cabbage child and the depths to which his life was tied to magic and others. Over time Rook has also become set in his obsessive compulsive ways and he leads a very structured life. Everything has it’s place and purpose and nothing distracts the young man more than disorder.

These days Rook lives on his own, works as a barista and is trying to piece together a future he can be happy with, a compromise between what he wants and what he knows must be. Zora’s appearance in his life is startling but he will adjust to her presence and the affect she has on him quickly enough.

* Rook has both an active and a passive magic ability tied to his species.
* Passively he projects and aura that disrupts the natural flow of things around him causing some form of shift in mood, luck, strength, health and the like to people in his presence. Rook has no control over what changes will occur, or how long they take or last. ( Anyone rping with Rook can negate this by simply choosing not to attribute any change to their character in his presence or afterward. I'm not forcing anything on anyone)
* Actively Rook can change the properties of magical items, though this too has it’s limits. He can turn a magical poison into a magical tonic but he cannot change the fact that it is a liquid. He can transform a pendant into a ring but he cannot make objects much greater or smaller than they originally were as he is limited to the resources already present within them.

Plots

Name: Zora
Personality:
Zora’s history is a mystery to most and she herself can only remember it in dreams that fade upon waking. She knows her own name, though not who gave it to her or when, only that it’s the one thing in life she is sure of. For such a young child with few memories there is a weariness in Zora that causes her to sigh from time to time as though she bears the weight of bigger responsibilities than keeping her room clean. Despite this, something very much alive and determined flickers in the depths of her violet eyes.

In general Zora appears to be fairly normal. She plays nice with most others, smiles and laughs like any other child and hates anything that falls under the category vegetable. Zora is capable of fitting in with her peers for the most part and actively seeks out certain individuals to add to her inner circle of friends. There's some blatant favoritism shown towards those she likes best but that is typical of a girl of her apparent age.

Adults get more respect than other children of course and Zora favours magic users the most in general. It'd be a far stretch to call her a goody two shoes but Zora does have manners and tends to use them most of the time. Like all children she has triggers that cause bad behavior though.

Zora is more of a follower than a leader when it comes to playing with other kids but she doesn’t hesitate to voice her opinions if she thinks something is going to go wrong. She doesn’t much care who dictates what they do at recess but the girl is unlikely to just go along with someone suggesting they make a game of jumping across the top of the monkey bars.

Should a person ignore Zora’s advice and end up in some sort of predicament as a result a small smile tends to appear on the girl’s lips. She is not above schadenfreude, in fact friend or not Zora seems to be quite interested in another’s suffering about as much as she is in their joy. She gets something inexplicably nourishing out of watching others experiencing these emotions, particularly if she’s been involved somehow. Why this happens Zora doesn’t know and that can make her a little uncomfortable when she thinks too hard about it.

Physical violence is beyond Zora , rather than stomp on a schoolyard bully’s foot she just mutters the word “karma” and finds other means to get back at him. Zora backs away from growling dogs, birds with ruffled feathers and anything that seems to be looking for physical confrontation. Even playful wrestling and tug of war are games that she can’t manage to find herself comfortable with, it’s okay for others but Zora will just watch thank you very much. In general she’s never going to be very physically strong and innately dislikes strenuous activity, particularly the aggressive kind.

Time not otherwise filled, spent in class or with other people, is time when Zora becomes a more focused little girl. Not one for parking herself in front of the tv or on the couch with the book Zora instead keeps herself busy making things. She is most often found folding little origami flowers, making crude sculptures with quick-dry clay and assembling other objects with great intent. It is in the process of making things that Zora can imbue magic into them for the purpose of delivering blessing or a curse. She can’t specify what she wants these blessings or curses to be but she still has focus the magic. Because of the lack of correlation between what she’s giving and what it does Zora can cheerfully doodle a picture of bunnies and rainbows that has all the vitriol she can manage crammed into it.

Just the same she must envision wishing another person only good tidings as she bakes cookies to be handed out later for such a more benign purpose. It is in these times, when she is ‘ working’ that Zora seems more serious, older and her weary sighs more pronounced. Zora can make things just for fun but most of the time arts and crafts with her is serious business.

Zora is naturally suspicious of gifts from others and becomes incredibly uncomfortable upon receiving them, not sure how to respond. What might be mistaken for modesty or selflessness is really is just a scared girl politely trying to refuse things of unknown origin.

Around Rook, Zora is polite and affectionate, she trusts him implicitly and does her best to not burden her guardian. Zora always says he is the best parent she could want, even if she never explains what she means by that or if she’s had other parents. The rest of her family consists of the shadows Jesse and james who showed up soon after her and are source of great amusement and use to Zora.

Ideas: ((What do you have planned for this child if you win her? ))
Forgive the crazy point form ^-^

*Zora has a history in which she worked as a balancer of fate, using her magic to make sure that everyone received their fair share of fortune and misfortune alike and that no one person got more than they were due (or at the wrong time) lest it rip the fabric of that particular universe apart. However mistakes were made, personal opinions got in the way of professional work and things fell apart. Zora’s rebirth on Gaia is a punishment though she isn’t fully aware of that yet as the truth about her past will initially only be available to her when she sleeps.

*At the start Zora will a have an innate desire to balance things which is why kindly old ladies get blessed paper dolls and bike stealing jerks get black origami lotuses laced with ill intent. Rook might tell her that two wrongs don’t make a right but Zora feels that it’s important for good and bad to be paid back or there will be less of it in the world. Gifts are not always personal though, sometimes Zora may feel that there is too much good or bad in the world in general and she’ll fill her pockets with items and go in search of people that it feels right to give them to just so that the world seems better. (Her internal sense of the world's balance is subjective and can be skewed by certain factors, just becuase she feels something doesn't make it so)

*Only as she connects to her past will Zora gain a sense of true purpose in the use of her blessing and curses as well as responsibility to assign them wisely. There will be people who will want to use her and other obstacles in her way given that Gaia's internal structure is not the same as the universe she is from.

* Sometimes Zora will make people barter for her gifts ( under specific circumstances I will outline later if I win) although her requests can be as random as a shiny rock to as serious as committing small crimes or dangerous acts to prove themselves worthy of what they want. Exp: Zora will offer a “cursed talisman”(as she phrases it) to a boy who wants revenge on another. However, he must first bring her the feather of an Orly owl. The true power of the item given and the need for the item received as payment will vary depending on the circumstances.

* Zora must create all the objects with which she blesses or curses someone, this can be as simple as painting a rock or as complex as making a replica doll of them but the magic must be focused into the item while she works. The intended person also has to touch the item for the magic to take affect.

* I’m still conceptualizing an idea on how exactly to do this but I want to make Jesse and James a direct part of Zora’s plot.

*I’d like for Zora to be open to help other people's plots if her skills can be of using making something happen for them. This can be as minor or serious as the other person desires and range from directly affecting them to simply doing something to another oc of the rper’s that causes a domino affect. Given the peddler’s nature she is truly more a force of power in other people’s stories than she is a star of her own and I don’t want that forgotten.

* Fiddling with the idea that her growth aside from just requirements will be based on accomplishing certain things with her magic.

*Zora is drawn to other magical people and like a compass pointing towards true north she is most drawn to others like herself. Her father who can cause changes in all ways is comforting to her and people with similarly balanced powers are the first she attempts to befriend. While on the flip side Zora is fidgety around those whose magic allows them only to grant wishes or cast curses. She senses a lack of balance to their magic and is unsure of how to deal with that. This doesn’t mean she couldn’t be friends with them just that there’s going to be a natural wariness that has to be overcome first.
