The computer I am going to be using to play FFXIV does not currently have a CD drive (Up to this point I've been using digital distribution) and I need some encouragement to drop the bucks on a drive to be able to play the game right when it comes out. Any advice is appreciated.

I got really excited when I saw those prices for a second before I realized that the page you are linking to shows internal CD/DVD drives. I need something external for my laptop. rofl
External drives on Newegg start at around $40+ and while that is not bad by any means the upfront cost of a drive and the game itself is the thing that I am struggling with. At the same time I don't want to fall too far behind my companions.

Wait you have a laptop? Then why do you need a disc drive if they're built into the unit? Personally I'd say screw the drive as a whole, just go to a friends house with a drive make an ISO of the install discs and then just boot them into a virtual drive using Power ISO or Daemon Tools.
