"I don't know what's wrong with the grass near home," the minx muttered irritably as he trotted along side the stallion; it was far too early in the morning to be hiking for breakfast. He still needed his beauty sleep -- as it were, Carreau's fur was sticking up in odd places, not slicked back and smooth as it usually was. But -- he glared at his companion with his sharp blue eyes -- Triboulet had insisted on getting up and dragging him along.

"You don't eat the grass there, do you? You don't eat grass at all," Triboulet countered the minx's protests. It wasn't that the grass near his herd was bad, really; but the unicorn preferred the taste of delicate flowers and the velvety textures of their petals, and there just weren't many in the immediate area. It wasn't as if he was wandering very far, either. In fact, the air still had the cool, salty breeze from the ocean, and every now and then in a moment of silence he could hear the waves crashing upon the shore. Unicorn blood was strong within his family line, but his grandmother was a kelpi, and the desire to be near water was something that has passed on through generations, and so that was where the family had settled.

He found a patch of small purple flowers, and Triboulet lowered his head to smell them before he began to eat. Carreau jumped up onto the stallion's back to settle as the mix began to groom himself, cleaning and smoothing out his fur. Triboulet thought about knocking him off his back, just for laughs, but his companion had come along with him even though it was clear he hadn't wanted to, and so he thought better of it. The minx remained there for several minutes as he finished clearing his fur, and once he was finished he wandered off to find some breakfast of his own. Triboulet was just settling into a peaceful, slow graze when he noticed the red in the trees nearby, and when the unicorn looked up he spotted the vibrant red apples hanging from the tree.

Oh, they looked delicious.

Triboulet walked closer to the tree, but as he did he realized they were too high for him to reach. If only Carreau had stuck around a little longer; the minx would have been able to climb up the tree for him, but as it were, it looked like he was on his own.

Heaven-Leigh trotted close to where the sand and the grass met as she gazed towards the ocean. The sun would be coming up soon, and she was excited to see it. A blaze of red and orange, gliding on the edge of the water. It would be breath-taking, she knew it.

She knew she still had time though, she had woken up too early. Despite the fact that she was still very tired, she was restless with anticipation. But there was something else too; she was a little bit hungry...

Reluctantly turning away from the ocean, she stared into the edge of the trees. It took a little while for her eyes to adjust, but soon she saw a hint of red gleaming from the trees in the light from the moon still hanging valiantly in the sky. She knew it must be some apples, so she approached them eagerly. She hoped she might be able to reach at least one of them, but she thought she might need the help of Skylar to get to the apples. If only she had woken her up before she left. There was no doubt though in her mind that the little bird would come to find her when she woke. And Heaven-Leigh wasn't that hard to find really; Skylar would know to look near the ocean, near her favorite spot where she came most often.

She approached the apples, so intent upon them that she didn't notice another unicorn admiring them as well.

((I thought I replied to this, but I don't know what happened! Lol. Sorry for so late a reply!!))

Triboulet was still pondering how he was going to go about getting himself some apples when he caught sight of something pink moving in the corner of his eye; when he turned his head to look, he was surprised to see another unicorn looking at the apples in the trees with interest, clearly intent on getting some down for herself. She hadn't seemed to have noticed him yet, though -- but hey, maybe if they worked together, they could both enjoy a nice, hefty breakfast of sweet apples. Now, that's what you called starting the morning on the right hoof. The stallion nickered softly to try and catch her attention, making his way toward her in an easy, lazy trot. He was pretty sure he'd never seen this mare around before -- or if he had, he just didn't remember.

"Hey," he greeted with a smile, huffing a breath to try and blow his bangs out of his eyes, and he dove right into conversation without preamble. "Got your eye on those apples too, huh? I've been trying to figure out a way to reach them. I came here for the flowers, but... those apples probably taste a lot better. I'm thinking a good, solid kick could probably knock a few down," he mused, almost to himself -- and then he seemed realize he'd practically just ambushed this mare out of nowhere and hadn't even given her a chance to talk, let alone introduced himself. What if she just wanted to mind her own business? He ducked his head a little, his smile suddenly sheepish. "Uh, sorry -- my name's Triboulet. What's yours?"

As Heaven-Leigh pondered a way of getting an apple down, she heard a voice beside her. 'Hey.'

That wasn't Skylar's voice. It was a male, blue and green, and very handsome. Before Heaven-Leigh had a chance to reply however, he began talking about the apples, and how they were to get them down. Heaven-Leigh's eyes lit up at his suggestion to kick the tree. Why hadn't she thought of that?

"Okay, Triboulet," he had finally revealed his name, "Let's get to kicking this tree then. On the count of three? Oh, my name is Heaven-Leigh, by the way. Nice to meet you." She turned around, her back end toward the tree, ready to kick, and she grinned at Triboulet.

Well, at least he hadn't scared her off or something -- and she seemed friendly enough. Triboulet all but beamed when she seemed to like his plan, and surely, it'd work much better with the two of them kicking the tree than just one. "It's nice to meet you too, Heaven-Leigh," he said, and he smiled at the way her name just rolled off the tongue so easily. "On the count of three," he agreed, and he moved in beside her, looking behind himself to make sure he was aligned up with the tree.

He cleared his throat before he began, rolling his shoulders and shifting his weight forward onto his front legs, preparing to kick back. "Okay. Ready? One -- two -- three!" And on three, he kicked out with both of his rear legs, slamming his hooves into the tree. The force of the impact from their legs caused the tree to shake, a few leaves fluttering down around them, and then -- thunk! thunk! -- two apples fell and rolled to a halt in the grass. Triboulet looked down at them, then grinned in triumph at Heaven-Leigh -- "two apples, perfect!" -- and a second later a third apple fell, landing directly on his nose. He jerked back in surprise, wincing, leaning his head down and lifting a leg to rub at his nose with his knee. "Ow," he muttered, mostly out of embarrassment than any real pain. "Make that three apples."

The two apples that fell from the tree made Heaven-Leigh beam. She was proud of her part that she had to play in the part of making them fall from the tree. It had been a powerful shake the tree had given from the force of their hooves, and she liked it. She couldn't help but wonder what other good ideas this stallion had, and how teaming up with him would be a good idea, at least for the day.

She couldn't help but burst out into laughter when the third apple fell on his nose. She could see that it didn't really hurt him, so it was just a humorous moment. She looked up at the tree to see if any other late apples might fall. When she was done giggling she said, "Oh, I'm sorry for laughing." She nudged the apple that had fallen onto his nose, rolling it back toward him. "This one's yours then," she offered with a smile. She picked up one of the first two apples that had fallen and crunched into it. "Mmmmm...perfect," she said after chewing and swallowing.

Triboulet's ears perked up at the sound of her laughter, and he raised his head back up and grinned, peering at her from beneath his bangs, wondering how else he could get her to laugh. It was a pleasant sound that made him feel giddy and full of restless energy, and he couldn't help but let out a little chuckle of his own, too. He shrugged and looked down at the apples at their hooves. "It was pretty funny," he agreed with a smile, and bent his head down to nose at his apple before he took a bite out of the fruit, enjoying this breakfast -- and the company -- far better than the flowers he'd been eating alone earlier. The silence as they ate was a comfortable one, but Triboulet wanted to know more about this unicorn he was sharing a meal with. After he swallowed a bite of apple his ears swiveled toward her and he tilted his head slightly in curiosity as he watched her. "So do you live around here? My parents and I live near the beach. My father, his mom is a kelpi, so he likes to be near the water too. Wouldn't know it if you look at him though -- he looks just like a unicorn, no fins or anything."
