I would probably have to say that Zack Fair's death in Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. My friend Fhade Hale knew that Zack was going to die at the end (ending got spoiled for him) and he STILL cried! It is an incredibly touching moment in Final Fantasy history.

Genesis's death would have been sad if he actually died. At the ending of Dirge of Cerberus, if you got all of the G-Reports, then you get an alternate ending. The person is simply called G at that point, but we all know that it is Genesis Rhapsodos.
I'd say that in the original Final Fantasy VII, Dyne's death was kind of sad as well.

In the original Final Fantasy VII, Dyne was a friend of Barret Wallace and Marlene's real father. Shinra invaded Mt. Corel, their home town and basically forced them to let them build a Mako Reactor. Scarlet was trying to kill Barret and Dyne, but Dyne fell over a cliff. Barret grabbed his arm to keep him from falling. Scarlet's henchmen shot both of their arms with their guns and that is why Barret has a machine gun arm. Dyne fell down into a canyon, but he somehow survived. After Barret's surgery to install the gun, the doctor told him that a man named Dyne came by and had a shotgun model installed in his arm. Years later, Barret had to fight Dyne below the Gold Saucer, and Dyne killed himself. He told Barret to take care of Marlene for him, because with his gun arm, he wouldn't be able to hold her anymore.

Yes, however, Auron's death wasn't nearly as sad as Dyne's or Zack's death.

In my general opinion, Rasler's death was just as sad as anyone else's. He gets married and then DIES. In war. The same day. Poor Ashe..

I understand, but Zack's death in my opinion was still probably the saddest in Final Fantasy history. He had saved Cloud and was aspiring to all sorts of dreams and finally settled on a mercenary. He intended to do good with that job, and he was getting ready to go see Aerith. But Shinra attacked and he died trying to save Cloud, and his last dying words was him telling Cloud to live out both of their dreams.
