Berj , Kohana'Subiani, & Howi'Subiani

Kohana:
"What were you thinking?" The lion's stoney voice rumbled. Beside him, his youngest brother walked with his paws dragging, head held low. Howi had been out exploring again, trying to learn the lay of the land so he might have his own stories to tell his littermates. He'd been born blind, and while his ambition was admirable, it left him extremely vaunrerable. He'd never be able to become a hunter like his mother or a painter like Tsaia. He could understand his frusteration- but he was reckless regardless.

Kohana paused and turned, catching the cub by the ruff of his neck as he came to the edge of a short ledge. For him it was a simple step downwards, for his brother it was a good tumble. If he came back bruised he'd never hear the end of it.

Berj:
She hadn't found a way into the pride yet, but she kept close to it. Watching what went on in it only seemed to further her desire to be apart of the pride itself.

To belong somewhere..she sighed softly, Chanda had already left and she left an emptiness without her younger twin. They'd been together for as long as Berj could remember, and now..she glanced at her side, the place empty cept for her own shadow, she looked back at the pride and sighed softly.

She'd be one of them one day, she promised herself.

Kohana:
The lion froze, still holding his younger sibling by the scruff as a new scent happened on a passing breeze. His shoulders tensed up as he took a leery look around. Another stranger on the boarders... it didn't smell like one of the Waya clan- thank the spirits for that.

Growling around the bundle of fur in his mouth, he lowered his head down, dropping Howi at his paws.

    "...Who's there? Show yourself."

Berj:
She jumped at the sudden voice, though it didnt sound friendly in the least, she rose to her paws, padding around the bushes that she hadn't been hiding behind it was where she'd been sleeping, and keeping to herself.

"Easy..I mean neither of you any harm." She eyed the pair, brilliant emerald orbs flashed as what she looked, and amussumed to be a father and son pair. "I say it again, I mean neither of you any harm."

She kept herself in a relaxed stance, hoping to ease the much larger male.

Kohana:
Kohana stood still as a stone and nearly as imposing. While the Ela were among the smallest lions on the savannah, he had taken after his pridelander mother in build and height. His eyes narrowed  on the small female, drawing in another deep breath.

    Definately an outsider...

    "What is your business here?"

Howi:
"She seems to be nice, Ko...mama said you need to be a gentleman." Howi reminded him, snickering at his brother's gruff tone.

The cub opened his mouth to say something else- perhaps a greeting- but Kohana would hear none of it. He cupped a paw around the cub's mouth and narrowed his eyes on the stranger.

Berj:
Her ears drew back, she still was quiet nervous around males. Memories that still haunted her would not let her forget the power that they held, the stregnth that could kill.

She stared at him, boldly before she spoke. "I want to join." She said, it was simple and to the point, but as her eyes drifted down towards the cub, she couldnt help but sigh softly, her own little brother had been about his age before he'd been killed, she smiled at him softly.

Kohana:
"To join us... you would have to speak with an elder." He answered. His tone hadn't swayed from the gravely, defensive tone he'd sported in issuing his earlier demand. Howi cleared his throat and nudged the older lion's leg.

"What?" He glanced down, eyes softening only slightly. Sadly, the gesture was lost on Howi.

Howi:
"Be nice... it's hard on the outside. Remember mama's stories?" He stood himself up and took a step forward. "You should stay with us until the elders are ready to see you! It's scary out there, there's lions as big as...as....."

Kohana:
    "....well?"

Berj:
She liked the small cub, he was so sweet. Her eyes moved back to the male, and she nodded her head. "I'd like to be able to have that chance then." She said with a light nod of her head.

She would have walked across fire kissed sands to be able to be one of them, to belong once more. She hadn't known how much she missed the family ways of a pride until her and Chanda had come upon this one, she missed it. Almost as much as she missed her family.

Kohana:
"...fine....it's this way." He jerked his chin towards the higher territory. Stooping down, he collected Howi once more and began trudging forward. She'd follow if she wanted to come. if not...whatever. It was one less individual he had to keep an eye on if that was the case.

Howi:
The cub dangled from his brother's mouth, trying to look as presentable and pleasant as possible. Sadly, the effect was lost. "My name's Howi'Subiani. This is my big brother, Kohana. He's not as mean as he seems. He's just ...mom says he's.... well it's a big word. It sounds important."

Berj:
She nodded her head, following after him. She couldnt help but smile at the cub, " You can call me Berj." She said with a light nod, and give a light laugh at the rest of his little speech.

She cast a glance up at the male, who she had just learned was Kohana, he seemed like he was always grumpy and in a hard cass mood, she simply didnt understand how one could enjoy life and be like that.

Howi:
"Just Berj? No offense or nothin' but that's funny. We have big names, family names! Like mine- Subiani. Do you have a last name?" He reached up and began grooming out the ruff of mane atop his head. Rehema would kill him if he came back dirty. He always came back dirty...

Kohana:
Kohana grumbled. It was terribly difficult to throw his two cents in with a mouthful of scruff. Of course she didn't get a family name, she wouldn't until she was married into the pride...even then it would only be her cubs that got a surname.

Berj:
"Well, my whole name is Berjouhi Enid. But many find it to much of a mouthful to say and I've always just gone by Berj to keep it short." She said with a nod, "My fathers..hmm..last name was Enid. And only the cubs that would be high rank one day, were given it." She felt like she was being a show off, talking about the ranking system of her fathers pride, but she and Chanda were only given the titles they'd been given because of their pelts.

Kohana:
Kohana glanced back over his shoulder and lifted a brow. So she was...nobility of some sort? Whyever would she leave her pride if she had such a responsibility to attend to? He made a grunting sound, it was the most he could do. Curse his babysitting duties... love his brother as he might.

Howi:
"That is a mouthful! Berjuju? Berjuki? I'll... just stick with Berj if that's okay. We're ...kind of from an important family. My dad was the last of the Subiani clan! He married mama, she's from the outside too."

Berj:
She laughed and nodded her head in agreement, "See, its just simply easier if I say Berj. No one can seem to say my given name without stumbling." Her eyes widened, "Wow..you are important!" She nodded her head, she wondered how it had felt to the others, their father mating with an outsider, but as she looked to the pair, she wondered if maybe that was the reason Kohana was the way he was.

Howi:
"Mom says we are. Dad's tribe was little, but it's getting bigger! Eeva's gonna be the clan leader. She's my big sister, she smells nice." He brushed a bit of dirt off his whiskers, eyes squinting slightly.

"Kohana's real different, he's just quiet. And serious. All the time."
Berj:
"Wow, your family is quiet important indeed!" She couldn't help but feel a little in awe of it, her sister would have been their leader, and she would have been her advisor. Even higher ranked than who ever her sister would have taken as mate, she didnt think about it often any more, it made her miss those she lost to much.

"Well, sometimes seriousness, and quiet is what is needed." She nodded her head, she'd been called serious and stuffy before, she glanced at the older male.
Kohana:
Kohana grunted and slowly lowered Howi down to the ground. The cub made an 'umf' sound and pulled himself back to his paws. From there it was an easy enough walk. "We are proud of our legacy. And protective. There are those on the outside that would harm us..."
Howi:
"Yeah! Dad and mom always tell us about the big, red lions from the desert! They eat cubs and everything. That's why I don't...go...too- oops..." His ears flattened down against his head. Well...he didn't go that far. Not really!
Berj:
"Firekin's.." She said with a quiet tone, "Ive met some of their cast outs and ex-memebers." She said in a rather somber tone, shivering at the memory of what she'd seen and had heard from others. "Your wise to keep far from there."

She looked to Kohana, "One should always be proud of their family, and protect it." She nodded, she'd protected Chanda most of their lives, and even though they were apart now, she would still die for her sister.
Howi:
"Not all are bad I bet! Just like not all my clan's serious, or blind, or....painty." He trodded off after Kohana, pressing his shoulder against his brother's paw whenever available.
Kohana:
"We keep here. This is our home, they're wise to keep far from here." He paused, causing Howi to bounce against the back of his leg. "This is the tribe's territory. There is water, caverns for shelter, and mother will be back with a kill soon."
Berj:
Berj looked to Howi and nodded her head, "No, not all of them are bad. But those who stay in that pride, willingly are not someone of a kind heart." She shook her head, there was so much pain and violence in the world, it was really a sad thought.

"Is your mother an elder?" She asked curiously, she looked to Kohana for the answer now, a brow arched as she looked around curiously.
Howi:
"But...they might stay for their family. It's why-"
Kohana:
"Indeed, the ones that stay are brutes." Kohana cut in sharply, his tone taking an edge that had his brother sinking down against the ground. Howi was a bit of a blabber mouth, he'd have to have a talk to him soon...

"Somewhat...my father was the last of the clan. He met her, they had us. Others....have joined from the outside. It's complicated." And she'd better not tell Rehema that she was old, the lioness would get defensive and they'd not see her for days. Trying to re-live her glory days as a top huntress would only weaken her aging joints.
Berj:
Berj stepped towards Howi, carefully she lowered her head to look down at him. "Yes, staying for ones family is a noble thing to do..but in a place like that. Trust me, its not always the best idea."
Lifting her head, she looked to Kohana and nodded, "So, is it your father I need to speak to than?" She asked curiously, she wanted to be here, to be apart of a family. She looked to Kohana and then to Howi and longed for what it had been like with her own family.
Kohana:
"But.... you can't leave your family. Never..." He turned towards the female and slowly reached out to touch the female's face. It was a strange habit he'd picked up a few months before. It was the only way he could 'see' the faces of those around him, he found it fascinating.
Howi:
"You're pretty!"

"No no... the overall elder. He will decide what clan you stay in. If the spirits see fit to place you with us, father will embrace you as one of his own."
Berj:
She let out a soft laugh before she nosed the cubs small paw for a moment, "Why thank you. A girl cant hear that enough..though my sister is considered the pretty one." She smiled, before she nodded. "Family is very important, but so is being true to ones self." She said somberly, she didn’t like that Chanda had split out on her when Berj had brought up the idea of joining these lions, but it had happened.

"Ah. Hmm.." She flicked her tail behind her for a moment behind her as she thought. "I am very grateful to have you bring me this far into your home."

Kohana:
"The spirits would want us to offer hospitality to a weary traveler... try to get some rest. I hear the outside is a hard place to travel across. There is plenty here for you to drink, and as I said- mother will return soon. I will hunt for my share."

Kohana:
He grunted and gave Howi a nudge of his paw. "Come. You need a bath."
Howi:
"You should let us know what the elder says!" He offered, not wanting to cut out someone who may have interesting stories to share. "Then my brother can paint you! He's real good, he did all my tattoos."
Berj: 2:17 am
"The outside world, is no more harder than the hardships I've already had to face in my years. I back down for no challenge and am greatful that you came upon me." She bowed her head to him, in respect before she smiled at the little cub, it was still beyond her thought process that he was blind to her smiles.

She nudged his shoulder with her nose lightly, "Even if Im not welcome, I couldn’t leave without saying goodbye to you. And that is impressive, I was admiring Kohana's...tattoos a minute ago. Yours are beautiful Howi."

Kohana:
"Tsiya is in training." Kohana commented gruffly, "Mine were done by an elder as well..."

"Kohana's just serious." Howi wrinkled his nose up as the older lion began nudging him off. "He doesn't talk much. Not even-"

Kohana:
"Berj it was good to meet you. I hope that the elders find that this place is yours to share. As...requested please keep us updated. Pardon, but this one is due for a talking to."

Howi:
"Buuusteeed."
Berj:
(2:25:35 AM): She simply smiled, and nodded her head, she continued to watch the pair for a moment before she turned away. She was going to find someone that could put her in the direction of the elders, she wanted to know if she had found a home or not.
