The big bad world was rather big and bad. She had never expected that the comfort she had in her old pride was well so comfortable. Everything out here seemed so different and strange and she wasn’t sure how to deal with it. Of course life had to change that was just part of it but she was confused slightly at how it had ended up like this.
Kanti flicked her tail behind her as she walked through long grasses, she wasn’t sure how she was going to survive on her own but she knew she would, she had to after all.
Opening her mouth slightly to let all the scents surround her she smiled, a rabbit was close. She crouched down and moving her weight onto her haunches. She moved gently letting her paws move without making a noise. She could see the hare now, it seemed white and clearly didn’t know where she was.
Rearranging her weight she watched the animal before pouncing on it, she was about to kill it swiftly when it started begging for it’s life.
“Huh?” Kanti didn’t let go of her meal but she was confused never had food begged for it’s life. Maybe that had something to do with the fact food tended to just be food but then maybe there was something more to it.
The rabbit which was in fact a hare looked up at the lioness with her one good eye. She had lost one when she was younger thanks to a stupid lion. Of course Weupe (the name of the Hare) had never cared much for lions, after all why should she when they were all so stupid?
“Have you never heard a hare talk before? Now will you get your oversized paw off me!” She was a bossy hare as well, that was for sure and she had no problem what so ever bossing a fully grown female lion around.
Having spoken to food Kanti couldn’t bring herself to kill it, you just don’t talk to food and maybe that was what the hare wanted all along, she wasn’t sure but one thing was for sure that the food was going to get away. She would have to hunt again later.
“I am sorry, I have never heard food talk before...” Kanti looked slightly taken-a-back by the tone of the hare. She was a brave thing that was the sure the way she was having such a go at her. Kanti wasn’t really sure what else to say, she was completely shocked and confused!
“You lions are all the same, you only ever think about the fur on your own backs!” As the lioness moved her paw Weupe jumped up and started grooming making all her fur lay as it should again, stupid lions they were always so careless!
“What you staring at? Also I am Weupe not Food... seriously you lions are so narrow minded.” She moved away from the lioness and jumped up on to a rock that was rather close to where the two of them stood.
“We have lives as well you know! How do you know I don’t have kits somewhere? You would have just killed their mother! Honestly you cats always thinking you can eat who you want. So thoughtless...” Weupe quite happily ranted at the lioness after all she was in no doubt who was in the wrong and who was in the right here.
Kanti still looked shocked in fact it would probably take her forever to get over the shock of having a rabbit, no hare talking to her.
“Weupe?” Yes she was slightly confused by the fact the hare even had a name. This whole thing seemed so odd and confusing and well she had been happy knowing that food was food and that was just how life was. But no this hare had to talk to her. Maybe Kanti should kill it anyway? Then she could forget that she had even tried talking to food! What would her siblings have thought if they knew she had a conversation with food.
“Why should I care if your kits died? They are just food for someone else.” Yes that seemed like a good argument.
“Why? Why? Well would you like it if you had kits and they died because someone came along and ate you! The fact is I don’t have kits but you didn’t know that and would have killed me anyway! Thoughtless I tell you, completely thoughtless!” Weupe’s voice seemed to just get sharper and it freaked Kanti out somewhat that something so small could be so... well vicious.
“I will tell you something. You lot think you rule the world well there are more of us then you and one day we will show you rotten animals who is really the best creature around here!” Of course Weupe didn’t actually think that the hares would take over the world but the idea amused her for a while.
“You are kidding right?” Kanti actually laughed she couldn’t believe that the hare really thought what she was saying. Though she also had a point she wouldn’t want anyone killing her and then her cubs dying, not that she had any but she might one day and she would love them and want them to have a good life.
“You are still food, I should eat you now.”
Weupe looked up at the lioness and decided now was a good time to leave.
“You could eat me now but you would have to catch me first!” The hare then quickly jumped off the rock ran a little way and disappeared down a a hole. She was safe for now and she knew it. Stupid lions.
Kanti watched as the hare vanished and just stared after her. Had that really just happened? Had she really just spoken to food? She shook her head and walked on a few paces, alert again for any sign or sound of food. It didn’t take too long for her to find another hare and quickly kill it before it had the chance to talk at her. At least she did manage to get one good meal today.
