Optheli was glad that it was several marks after dinner when her green flit, Ismay, started to creel hungrily. There was a lot less people to crush in around them. It made feeding much easier on both of them. That was why she was currently sitting at a table near the hearth, feeding the young green small cubes of raw meat. At her elbow sat a cup of klah and a plate of buttered rolls.

As the little mouth opened, she popped another piece in and smiled. Ismay was certainly easier to feed than her Dynith. Or maybe it was the practice with Dynith that made it easier. Either way, she was glad of both.
'Mine, are you sure you have to feed her in there?' The nervous green asked. Ever since she'd grown too big to follow Her's everywhere it had been a little touchy getting her to stay calm on her own. She was slowly getting better. Yes I do. They keep a supply here for the flits. You're doing great Dynith. I think she's almost full.

Even now she still had trouble keeping it all mental. Once in awhile she'd speak the word instead of just thinking it. Another reason for it to be mostly deserted. People might think she was going crazy if they heard her speaking random words.

Kytara slipped into the kitchens, doing her best not to be seen. She had completely missed her last few meals on account of a feverish writing frenzy that had consumed her yet again. Her stomach growled in soft protest reminding her that she needed to hurry before anyone noticed her absence. She pushed the door open a crack and wiggled in, looking around to notice that it was not as empty as she had hoped.
Crossing her fingers she edged along the wall, in hopes that the girl wouldn't notice her. Not that anyone did normally, but the door was a bit on the loud side.

Ismay opened her mouth for another bite, when a noise and movement caught her attention. She stood on her back legs with her wings spread for balance to look curiously at the source. Cheeping, her eyes whirled with curiosity.

Noting her 'lizard's attention span has been distracted from her belly for a moment, she turned to look. The girl seemed to be trying to merge with the wall and walk towards the hearth at the same time. Optheli grinned. "Hey. They just put on a fresh pot of stew at dinner. And the klah is decently fresh too. If you want to sit by me, I've got some buttered rolls over here."

She looked to the ground, a bit ashamed and disgusted that the one time she wanted to not be noticed she was. With a soft shrug she stared to move again, giving the girl a quick half smile. She poured herself a mug of klah and stood considering the stew. Ultimately it was her stomach that made the final decision for her. Knowing that this would most likely be her only meal for the next few days, she spooned a bowl of stew up as well.

While she wasn't one for company, the flits presence served to coax her to the table where the girl sat. She sipped at the klah quietly for a few minutes before she looked up into the girls eyes. "She's lovely." As she sat quietly she racked he memory for the girl's name. She frowned to herself when all she could remember was that she was the rider of green Dynith.

New person adequately dealt with, Ismay turns back to Optheli and makes a demanding squeek. Her belly wasn't getting any fuller for all her chattering!

Optheli gave the girl a wide grin of confidence and humor as the green's belly once more takes control. It'd be nice to have someone to chat with. She let the other time to sit and get some food into her as she started to chatter. "I really hadn't expected anyone to come in. It seemed the whole Weyr was at tables tonight. So much quieter now, I really can't blame you for coming in so late."

She gave another winsome smile as the girl gave about as small a sentence as one could. Maybe she comes so late because she's shy or doesn't like the crush. "Thank you. Her name is Ismay. I'm Optheli. Don't think we've met. What do you do here at the Weyr?" Politely she nudged the buttered roll plate over to the other.

Ismay, clearly knew the other was commenting on her, gave a soft cheep. Of course she was lovely! She was also hungry.

[Sorry for the late response]

Kytara turned down the offer for buttered rolls. They were much to rich for her to handle after not eating in so long. She chewed slowly on the stew, as much to contemplate an answer as to prolong having to answer. When she could not stall any longer she swallowed and answered. "I'm Kytara. I'm an apprentice Harper. Or...I was. I guess I'm a candidate now. Nice to meet you Optheli. If I'm not mistaken you impressed Green Dynith from the stands this last clutch. A much delayed congratulations." At the mention of the clutch and Dynith the girl perked up a bit, a smile crossing her face for a few fleeting seconds.

(No worries. I've been playing rp catch-up. smile )

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance Kytara. Oh, did you get searched from Harper Hall? What was it like there? Do you study under the Weyrharper now? Are you excited to be a candidate?" She talked quickly as her curiosity took over.

She grinned. "Yes, you're right on both accounts. It was most unexpected. Thank you very much. Are you looking forward to impressing? If you'd like, you could come meet Dynith some time.

She was a little overwhelmed by all of the questions coming all at once, but she did her best to answer them all. She chewed her bottom lip for a moment as she tried putting all of her answers in the order they were asked. "Actually, I was. I had been there for a little less than half a turn. It was busy. That's the only way I can think to describe it. And full of music and singing all of the time." She paused to give herself a break and to consider the rolls for a moment. She sighed and gave in to her temptation, taking the smallest one she could find. So long as she took it in little bites she was sure it wouldn't upset her neglected stomach to much.

After a while she decided she had stalled long enough. "I do. Every day in fact. As for the excitement, it comes and goes but overall I am. It builds up the most around a hatching, but that's just normal I guess. I look forward to Impressing, but at the same time, I understand that not everyone does and it sort of scares me. I've got my heart set on it now and no matter how much I enjoy being a harper, I'm not sure I could settle for it now."

She froze at the last statement and did her best to keep the thrill in check. "Really? I'd like that alot!" The excitement was plain on her face and she turned pink as she heard her voice crack. So much for not acting like a generic excitable candidate.

Optheli listened with curiosity. "I've never been to the harper hall. It sounds nice with the music and singing all the time. Our caravan was busy too. We did some singing, sometimes on the trail, but mostly around the campfires." She smiled as the girl took a small roll. "Did you come late to avoid everyone? What about seeing the weyrharper? Don't you miss that?"

She gave a giggle. "I think everyone dreams of Impressing at some point. Even my brother. With eggs on the Sands, I'm sure it's worse cause you know they're going to hatch soon. Maybe one of them will be yours? How could you not be excited for that?" Optheli caught her breath as she mentioned not everyone does get a dragon who tries. What would it be like if she hadn't Impressed Dynith? She nodded. "Yeah. If you're allowed to Stand, though, you'll get lots of chances. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you at the next hatching."

Optheli grinned. "Course!" She was pleased Kytara was excited. "Dynith is kinda shy, but I think she'd like the attention too. Just send me a note when you have a couple hours free and we can meet by the lake or something."

She dipped her head in gratitude. "I will! I don't see why she should be so shy, she's such a lovely!" She was certain now that she like Optheli. Trying to calm herself and stop acting like a little pest she forced her attention onto the earlier questions. "I do usually. I'm not comfortable around people. Crowds especially. But tonight I simply lost track of time and missed it altogether." She paused to reach for her klah and take a deep drink, enjoying the feeling of warmth seeping into her body. "Sometimes I miss it, but candidates keep so busy I don't have time to dwell on it often." She frowned and looked up. Plenty of chances until you grow too old that is.... Hearing that the greenrider would be routing for her at the next hatching brought a true smile to her face however. "Thank you. That means quite a lot to me!" She thought for a moment before tilting her head to the side, a sign of her curiosity. "What was it like in the caravan? Do you miss it?"

Optheli smiled. "I think and tell her the same. Personally I believe it to be a minor self-confidence issue that will fade with time. Until then, I'll continue to support and encourage her." She sent a loving thought to her dragon.

"Hmmmm. It can get a bit overwhelming. You'd always be welcome to sit with me. I love to chatter at people." She made a funny face. "If I don't see you, would you like me to see that something is sent up to you?" Optheli really wanted the girl to join her for meals, but that didn't mean she should go hungry if she forgot.

"You're most welcome. You seem really nice, and deserve lots of chances for a dragon." She gave a long thoughtful sigh. "Life was busy. We were always moving withing at least a sevenday. But there was also a lot of joy. It's much like the Weyr, but a little bit smaller. They're like a close family, just like the Weyr is."

She smiled, "yeah. That's home to me, and where I'm most comfortable. I do miss traveling and singing around the campfire at night. Or listening to the watchwhers patrolling just outside the wagon. But my brother is here too, so I'm not completely alone. This is my new family, and its just as good as the old."

"As long as you don't expect me to chatter back. I'm not much of a conversationalist." She was genuinely touched by the caring thought. "That would be nice of you, but if its to much trouble don't bother." She didn't want to ask the girl to go out of her way. After all, she hadn't managed to starve yet. She listened as Optheli spoke of the caravan and wondered if that was what family life should have been like. While she considered the weyr as her family, she knew that it worked differently and had different rules and roles to play. "I'm glad that you've found such a happy place in life. May you always be so joyful." She tipped her mug of klah in a mock toast and smiled as she took a sip.

Optheli gave a giggle. "No worries about that. My brother does it all the time. You only have to reply if you want. Hopefully my chatter wont bother you too much." She seemed amused by her own chattery-ness.

"Certainly its no trouble. I'll be here anyhow." She gave a shrug of her shoulder. "Its a simple matter to ask a server to send up a plate for you." She gave a mischievous grin, "much better than having Dynith warble outside your window to remind you."

"I think I'll like it a lot here. The people are nice, my brother is here too, plus I'll always have Dynith. Not only that but the caravan will be back sometimes, so I'll be able to see my father and the wherhandler Relys too. I love to make new friends."

Optheli flashed the other a wide grin and raised her mug too. "Agreed! And to dragon companions, that someday you may find Yours."
