"Whooooooa."
Such was a common sound that Temes was making lately as she wandered the grounds of the school, classes not having started yet and her free time best spent learning how to avoid other students that were much bigger than she was and more than eager to show her that they were. The demure Chupacabra had found herself loitering around the sporting grounds lately, watching the teams get in "pre-season" practices and whatever they liked to do, and soon her small legs had carried her to what appeared to be a sports track. There were running lanes marked on the ground, not to mention a bar that was likely used for high jump set up amongst overgrown weeds. Had this field been abandoned because no one wanted to do track? Or was it because it wasn't time for track?
Of course Temes knew what track was, she was a Chupacabra! Running and jumping was her life and, with that thought in mind, she set down her prized red Thermos and took off in a good run towards the high jump, aware that it had to have been at least ten feet from the ground and there was nothing to catch her on the other side. With a little grunt she kicked off into the air at the mark on the ground, her back arched and her longest quill easily clearing the pole. Coming down was a bit more hard as she had to twist her body quickly, and she groaned as a hard landing found her on her buttocks and part of her side instead of her feet like she wanted.
"Aye de mi...me duele...."
Hopefully there was no one around who'd seen that amazing jump and less than stellar landing, right?

"Bloody hell!" Tybalt cursed as weaved through the steady stream of students--or rather pushed, clawed and snarled his way through. But to no avail. A few days, a few days and he was still managing to get himself lost. Not to mention annoyed. How on Earth did people expect students to navigate these halls when it was this bloody crowded!? And on top of it all, they were so damn noisy! He couldn't even think! This whole situation was driving him mad! So mad, that he gave it a few more moments of him squeezing past some bizarre looking creatures, pushing some mischievous brats aside, and returning some equally rude curses and gestures before he decided to call it quits. With one good, strong kick; fueled by anger, he made his escape. This wasn't getting him anywhere. Not with all those blockades. For now, it would be better to take a small detour, cool his temper, and find a blasted entrance closer to his destination and avoid the never ending sea of students all together. Easier? Yes. Longer? Definitely! On the bright side, at least it was quiet... Aside from the few students going about their own business, there was hardly anyone out here. Perhaps because it was the beginning of the school year and everyone was still getting sorted out? Who knew? But it still didn't solve his current problem.
Wandering off the paved path, he managed to find himself in an open field. A few more students were here as well. Scattered around the area, doing what seemed to be training? However, only one seemed to be using what he figured was the track field and no wonder.
"Hmm..." He scanned the area and shook his head at what he saw. "Not much to look at..." He sniffed; disappointed and kicked the dirt watching it scatter in all directions before it settled again. It really was though. The grass was long and wild, and the weeds were spreading over the field like an infectious disease. Really. It was a sad excuse of a field. Maybe with a little work it might become something. Maybe. But as of right now, he couldn't imagine anyone who would be willing to take up the task. He certainly wasn't!
He was about to continue his search and ignore the pitiful sight, when the lone student did something crazy--well, crazy enough to draw his attention for a few more minutes at least. It was only a few seconds, but those few seconds left him in awe. He stared as that little shorty ran and piratically flew over the high jump beam--without even so much as nudging the bar! Amazing! What kind of creature was she? How in he world did she manage a jump like that with that tiny stature? It was simply amazing! But not half as amazing as her landing! The moment she hit the ground, Ty was over his shock and cackling away like a mad man. "Ahahahah! What kind of landing was that?" He asked; still chuckling as he pushed himself off of the tree that he had come to use as support and made his way over to help the girl up.
Looks like his destination would have to wait a little longer.

If she wasn't already likely cold-blooded for being a creature of beast and lizard combined, Temes's blood would have ran cold in her veins at the sound of the cackle. Instead her cheeks turned bright red as someone came into view, someone who'd watched her land like a sack of potatoes, and she tried to get shakily to her feet before they got there. She couldn't move, not really, and was forced to take the hand that was offered down to her.
" . . . . . so you saw, yes?"
The jump wasn't so bad at all, in fact it had been rather good considering she hardly jumped that hard or that high compared to what she could normally do, but she knew the laughter had to have come from watching her impact the ground. There was a small set of holes from where the quills on her back had poked into the soil as she'd rolled to get up, though the major marker was in the shape of her hind-end and her legs. At least the ground had been soft when she'd landed or else she might have seriously hurt herself.
" . . .don't tell anyone, por favor. I don't want them to have more reason to laugh at me than they already do."
Temes wasn't aware that he might have actually been impressed with her jump, but she wasn't taking any chances today.

He couldn't help the following chuckle as she questioned him. "See what? The spectacular jump? Or the spectacular landing?" He asked and hoisted her to her feet, before realizing that he was going to have to crouch down so that she didn't have to stare up at him. She really was a shorty.
He also noted, that after a few moments of watching her, it was easy to tell, by the colour in her cheeks and her reaction to his presence, that she was upset about him having seen it all. Well really, most would be. No one likes having their mistakes seen. He knew he didn't. 'Course, she could just be shy in general. Which wasn't beyond the realm of possibilities either. A little strange in this school of fearsome creatures. But still possible. Though to be on the safe side, he decided he was going to have to tread carefully so that he didn't make her more uncomfortable than she already was. It wasn't in his nature to make others miserable. Scared maybe, or annoyed. But not miserable.
"No worries! Secret's safe with me!" He answered; placing his one hand over his heart and the other in the air, before giving a wink and flashing a toothy grin which stood out quite a bit against his black skin. He didn't really have anyone to tell anyways.
"So what were you doing out here? Aside from almost causing self inflicted injury?" He asked; crouching down in front of her, so that they were both almost eye level.

Teme's red eyes looked up and down at Tybalt's much taller frame for a moment or two as she judged him, uncertain if what he was saying was the truth. If there was anything that she'd learned about others at the school it was that most (if not all) lied about everything and friendliness was just a ruse. It wasn't that surprising considering she was at a school for monsters and everything else that was considered scary, and the little Chupacabra found that she may or may not be having a crisis of the faith about her own personality. Being meek and generally nice seemed to suck here, but she was going to stick to her own guns. Not to mention this other kid was really tall, he could easily grab her and toss her somewhere.
At his talk about seeing both, she frowned a little before she tried to ease into a smile at his smile. He showed off a mouth full of interesting pointy teeth - she showed off a mouth full of razor sharp fangs. It sort of set her at ease to see another student that didn't look so humanoid - not that Temes really knew what a human was to begin with.
"I was running and jumping, you see. I like to do both and they have this hear, so shouldn't we use it? It makes more sense that way then just letting it continue to rot over."
Temes really didn't like having to explain herself, but it was unavoidable in this case. Besides, it wasn't like he was being cruel - he even knelt down to get closer to her height. It was amusing how his eyes had different colors like that! Hers were just a solid red, but anyone who knew what a Chupacabra was wouldn't dare look directly into them.
"Ar you here to play too?"

Tybalt watched silently as she seemed to judging him. That was to be expected. At least she wasn't the naive type to accept everyone who offered her a bit of kindness right off the bat. In their world that could end quite badly. But no, she was being cautious. It wasn't until she managed a grin of her own, that sported teeth that would make him think twice about reaching out his hand again toward the girl, that he realized, despite her size, she probably could be quite fearsome. Not that he thought he'd have to worry. She didn't come off as that type of monster. But perhaps, he would to best to follow her example and be a little cautious himself. He may be a ghost, but pain was not beyond him.
"I see..." He started, taking another look about the area, which resulted in a crooked smile. "Maybe you should get the remainder of the equipment before you do anything like this again, hmm?" He finished, nudging her lightly with his elbow. "I mean, you may not be so lucky the next time."
He began to get to his feet, but stopped when she asked him for his reasons of being here. "Naw, not really. I'm supposed to be going to my dorm to settle in. But got a little... sidetracked." He shrugged at the last half, not wanting to admit he was lost.
"Doesn't anyone else use this field? Or is just something that's here?" He asked, changing the topic. Besides, he still found it a little strange that it was in the state it was. There was probably quite a few students who would jump at the chance for some track and field. So why was it in this sorry state?

Temes wanted to ignore his remark about her fall, but it had been an accident. She could easily make that jump and land without injury. Maybe she should try it again, and prove it to him? Perhaps before they left, since he seemed content to talk. He was friendlier than most so far, which sort of eased the little one's nerves.
"It was like this when I came over? Maybe there used to be a team here but yo no se . . .I don't know. Perhaps it's not the season? Are there even seasons here? Very different from where I am from."
Temes kicked at a tuft of dirt with her foot, scowling as the bare toes got stuck in a few roots and pulled up a clump in the process. She shook the offending appendage to get the dirt off and looked around, agreeing with its sorry state.
"Or maybe this is the old field? I am not from this school, I do not know. Maybe we should look for a newer field? Or maybe they leave it like this to make it seem spooky. Kind of a waste since they ruin things that way."

He shrugged not knowing any answer to her thoughts. He too had only recently come to this place, so he was still a little unsure about it as well and if it actually had seasons or just the one. Though after hearing so many rumors about it beforehand, it was probably safe to assume that it didn't. They were in a place that revolved around Halloween after all. What need was there for other seasons?
"I'd say that it's been abandoned." He said, indifferent to the matter. "I don't think they'd let it get to this state, simply for looks. Otherwise competitors may get a little miffed if their performance got botched by something as stupid as pit holes, or say--one of those clingy weeds?" He finished, pointing to the weed she had just managed to shake loose as a prime example. "I also don't really see much of a point in having two track fields... Unless they had a massive team. But that would mean this one would still be in use--which it isn't."
After a few moments of thought, he decided to speak again. "Maybe they just don't have a team anymore? Or at least, someone to organize one?" He suggested. "Whatever the reason, it can't hurt to look. Just in case there is another."
It didn't matter much to him either way. It wasn't like he had to be at his dorm room this very instant. It wasn't going anywhere. Besides, he might be able to start making a mental map of the place. Or rather, the outside at least. Which in his opinion was better than nothing.
"Oh and by the way. I'm Tybalt, what others call a black dog and you are..?" He asked; crooked smile present once more.

Temes rubbed her lower back where the dull ache from impact was slowly fading away, a sensation she was most grateful for. Her body handled pain really well, something she assumed was common among all Chupacabra, as she'd seen her brothers biting and scratching one another and simply shrug it off. She'd been bitten plenty of time too, and did her fair share of biting back as well. Chupacabra teeth weren't anything to laugh at, as some of the super faint scars on her arms attested.
"I'd like to be on a track team, I think. I am very good at jumping and can run fast too. Better at jumping though, just not so much at the landings. Like you've seen. It doesn't hurt anymore though."
It took Chuppi a second or two to register that this person before her actually did want her name and to perhaps become her friend. That must have meant that his laughter from before really had been good-humored and he wasn't trying to be a jerk, thoughts which left the Chupacabra feeling a bit better. The fact that he'd given his name first too was a good thing, because it meant that maybe he was showing interest in her? Not interest in a bad way of course, but for friendship. Chuppi liked that idea.
"My name is Temes, but mi familia - my family - calls me Chuppi. I assume I was to tell you what I was as well, right? I'm a Chupacabra. We are sort of like dogs, if that makes me similar to you. Lizard dogs."
She'd heard someone before say Chupacabras were lizard dogs, with that their odd stances and combination of lizard scales and fur.
"If we are going to look, shall we go look?"

Tybalt couldn't help the snort that followed. "Yeah, I kinda' noticed." He replied, as he rocked back on his heals; hands in his pockets. "I think you may be outta' luck though. Unless someone plans on making a team, I don't there will be any track and field."
It kinda' sucked when you thought about it. Even Tybalt, being as lazy as he was, would have probably liked to take part in the track team. But just looking at the state of this field would easily crush that hope. What to do...? He was about to ask her what she was going to do if she couldn't find another field, one that really was active, when she answered his earlier question.
"Chuppi, huh? Easier to remember than Temes. Mind if I call you that as well?" He asked; tail swishing back and forth in a lazy manner. He had no idea what a Chupacabra was, but it wasn't hard to imagine a lizard dog creature. Such a weird combination, but cool. He was curious to see what her actual form really looked like.

Chuppi's cheeks blushed a darker shade of green at Tybalt's question of being able to call her Chuppi, and she nodded her head quickly before reaching to get her Thermos. Her nerves had kicked in suddenly with the embarrassment and she wanted a drink, though to her horror the Thermos was not on her. In fact, the Thermos was on the other side of the field where she'd left it, and it looks so vulnerable. What if someone came by in these few short seconds and grabbed it? They could easily get away from her and take it with them and she'd never see it again. How could she be so careless?! Thermos was her life!
"I...I will be right back."
Her voice was trembling as she spoke, and without any warning she was down on all fours and breaking off into a strong run to reach the other side of the field. About halfway into the run she bent her legs and sprung into a jump, clearing about twenty feet in a single bound. She came to a landing fairly close to her Thermos, her body tumbling as she couldn't stop her running so carefully, and she skidded to a stop before she managed to contact with a tree. That would have been insult to injury since her quills would have gotten stuck into the tree and she would have had to wiggle to get free, so the bruising and scrapes she had on her arm and side now from the dirt was nothing.
Rising to her feet she swayed a bit as she got the Thermos, the straw instantly getting pulled free and thrust into her mouth. She drank a couple of sips before she shook her head, the ringing in her ears needing to go away quickly, and slowly she started her march back over to where Tybalt was. She likely just made an a** of herself in front of him (or impressed him even more maybe), but since she had her Thermos Chuppi was sort of at ease in all of this.

"Eh?" Was all he got out when the Chupacabra darted off after something. Though what she was going after, he had no idea. She looked pretty upset though. Maybe it was something precious or something valuable? For her sake he hoped it wasn't either. Something valuable left lying around was like asking it to be stolen and if it was something precious? Well, someone of her type would more than likely be devastated to find it gone.
He was about to go after her--just to make sure everything was alright when she skidded across the ground; barely avoiding the nearest tree. "That was graceful." He snorted, covering the grin that reappeared on his face. Luckily for her, whatever she was after seemed to still have been there. She looked much more relaxed than just a second ago and was now casually making her way back. Good thing too, he was clueless on how to make a depressed monster feel better.
"Find what you were looking for?" He asked curiously; still standing where she had left him. Though he had taken a few small steps before he realized he wasn't needed.

Blood was the cure for what ails, even when the ails were self-inflicted trying to get to said blood, and even though Chuppi smarted along the side of her body and on her face she still smiled contently as she sipped away at her Thermos. The rich taste of copper was just what she needed to settle away those nerves that were trying to come up and startle her, not to mention it was helping her calm down enough to continue a decent conversation with this 'Tybalt'. He'd been so nice to Chuppi this far that she really hoped he was the kind to stay nice. If this was all a mean joke she'd really be crying herself to sleep tonight.
"I found my Thermos. It is...I guess you could say my lucky charm? It is also my meal."
Chuppi had managed to reach Tybalt sometime during her little thought process of how nice he was and how much she enjoyed talking to him, though when she got close enough and tried to actually hold a conversation again all she could do was drink and drink. Her Thermos was going to be empty at this rate, not really a problem considering she knew where a good source of fresh blood could be found, but the problem was getting to that food source on an empty stomach. It didn't sound pleasant at all to try, not to mention she'd promised to go look for the new track field. If there even was a new track field.
"Um, should we go looking now? I don't know if we'll find anything before it gets dark though, the campus is kinda big. I still don't know my way around it....do you?"
If Tybalt was a black dog then being in the dark and navigating should be no problem for him, right? Chuppi really needed to learn more about other species and stop assuming things.

"Thermos?" He asked, before he caught sight of the red and white beverage container she held in her clutches. Was that what she was after? Must be pretty important to her, if she was that frantic about getting it back. Though he couldn't see how exactly that thing was lucky. To each their own, he guessed?
"...Eh? O-oh right! Almost forgot!" He smiled, this time out of embarrassment. Count on the black dog to forget what they were originally setting out to do in the first place. Smart Tybalt. Smart. "Me? Nada. I know nothing about this place. I'm still only just moving in. Though I guess we should try asking some seniors first?" He suggested. Someone who's been here a year or two, was bound to have a better idea of where a field might be or if there was any at all. Which was still something he had doubts on.
"Shall we go, Chuppi?" He asked; hands in his pockets once more as he rocked back on his heels again.

Before Chuppi could actually respond to his question about traveling with him she felt her stomach rumble heavily, the pain causing her to wince a bit. She pulled the thermos to her mouth and took a few swallows, surprised that she'd nearly drained the object dry with just those sips. Her nerves at being out and about, not to mention the stinging pains from her awkward landings, would drive her to want to eat more and since she had nothing to drink there was a chance she would get unhappy.
An unhappy Chuppi meant a feral Chuppi, and no one wanted that. She'd likely attack anything that had a pulse and had blood that was flowing - not that the ghost boy was in any danger. Still she did not want him to see her that way, not since they'd only just met, and she rubbed her stomach with a free hand while glancing nervously about. Her thought before about this not being a problem swiftly changed to it being a problem. She needed to take her leave, and now.
"I...would like to go with you, but. . .I need to go eat. Yo nessicito comer. Perhaps we can meet up again? Meet me back here some time and we can start a track team together, okay? You can be the Vice-Captain!"
Chuppi had no idea where all her suggestions for things were coming from, not to mention her sudden nomination of this stranger to a second in command, but hunger never let her brain work properly. Instead she simply bowed her head with a smile and took off at a run, finally changing into bounding leaps as she went to get away. Her nose was already twitching as her stomach roared in her ears. It was time for a meal.
