User Image So far, Adonai had gotten a very small sampling of the wolves in this territory -- one member, to be precise -- and he wasn't at all sure how to feel about it. It wasn't helping much that this entirely unpleasant, volatile female also appeared to be a daughter he never knew existed, and who was in a hurry to forget that he existed.

How did he get himself into messes like this?

Grumbling to himself, the calico-eared wolf made his way toward the center of the territory, black-and-brown tail twitching annoyedly behind him. Well...best to meet the other members of the pack, he decided -- or at least whoever ran this place. It wouldn't do at all to have Terreis convincing them all he was a cold-blooded killer before he'd had the chance to prove otherwise!

He paused, glancing around, hoping to run into someone that could prove a welcome reprieve from his troubled thoughts.

User Image It was rather nice to be walking along with her son in the swiftly fading light of day. They were close it was true but with his new family Chivosi sometimes found it hard to spend time with him as of late - at least without a pup or two tagging along.

Not that she minded - she loved pups, and was quite proud to be the grandmother she was...but they were anything but peaceful to be around and relaxing after a day of running after them was a pleasant change of pace. Derecho however was keen to continue a rambling description of just how large, gifted and smart his son's were, she was happy to listen and found herself chuckling at several of his stories before a flash of white between the trees caught her attention. There weren't many wolves with so much white on them in the pack..well other then Terreis' adopted daughter, but this wolf was far to large to be mistaken for her. The new wolf then..the one she had yet to meet, and upon closer inspection there was indeed the black cap upon his head that Terreis had described.

"Have you met the new wolf yet?" She asked her son with a slight motion in the stranger's direction.

User Image

Halted in mid story by his mother's question Derecho glanced in the indicated direction, huffing slightly at the distraction. "No, Terreis merely told me he was a traveler staying awhile" And other then a brief description - White wolf, black cap, bits of brown, she hadn't said much of anything else. She had in fact seemed a good deal perturbed by him but he'd brushed that off as her general reaction to males without a second thought "I expect you'll want ot meet him now then won't you?" He inquired though he already knew the answer - it was important to his mother that she get to know all the wolves who passed through her territory, more to offer the companionship such travelers often craved then to ensure they weren't a risk. Such things were left to others - Merrill and himself most often.

His mother was a great Alpha but she was sometimes to trusting as far as he was concerned.

"Of course, it's the only polite thing to do" She told her son giving him a patient look - even though she noted the look in his eyes. He thought she wasn't careful enough. She was plenty careful and could well take care of herself...he was just the over protective type. Chivosi had learned early on in her Alpha career that you got more with sweet questions then arrogant demands. Derecho would learn in time and with a whisk of her tail she trotted towards the stranger leaving Derecho to follow and grumble as he so chose.

Adonai paused, catching the approach of the two wolves -- related, he thought, from the looks of the marks about their eyes -- and flashed a smile, golden eyes glinting. The female carried herself with the irrefutable air of an alpha; he could sense her easy confidence, so very different from the defensive abrasiveness he had received from Terreis, and it made him breathe a sigh of relief. So females hadn't all gone insane in his time alone.

"Salutations," he called, coming to a halt before them, casting his gaze from one to the other. He carried himself with the air of one who was utterly at ease with himself; not arrogance, precisely, but a general comfort in his own skin. "I believe this is your territory whose comforts I have been enjoying? I thank you for your hospitality." His black-and-brown tail gave a slow wag behind him. "I'm Adonai."

Chivosi cast a warm look upon the other wolf as she approached Derecho following along behind as she had known he would. "Greetings Adonai" she welcomed the other in easy tones "I am Chivosi, Alpha of the YMCA pack and this is my son Derecho, I believe his mate was the one who found you in the woods? Terreis" She remarked with a soft chuckled - honestly it surprised her that the male had decided to stay after being found by Terreis...lets face it, she wasn't exactly the best welcoming committee a boy could have and while Chiv sometimes questioned her mates choice in mates one had only to watch them or a time to know that beneath their snippy remarks and sometimes hard headed arguments they truly did care for one another.

"I bet that was a fun experience" Derecho added on, sharing his mothers grin - and proving that he did indeed know his mate well, he counted it as a small victory that she had offered the male a place to stay at all. Proof that she wasn't at all as heartless as she liked to make her self out to be. "Glad she didn't run you off" And good for her he thought to himself, rather proud of his wayward mate.

"Good indeed" Chiv agreed "All are welcome in YMCA, as long as they don't threaten those already here and contribute as they can during their stay" She continued "Shall you be staying long or merely passing through?" Not that it really matter to chivosi she'd wecome him regardless of the answer and treat him as well as she did any wolf that spent time with them - why she'd even been kind to Edgar that smelly rat wolf Merrill had been so fond of complaining about. She sometimes wondered just where that particular wolf had ended up after he wandered off one morning.

His brows raised in surprise; ah! So this was his daughter's mate. How interesting...he ran his golden eyes over Derecho for perhaps a moment longer than would be expected, and then looked back to Chivosi, winning smile still firmly planted upon his maw. "Oh, I've met her kind before," he replied, somewhat cryptically, deciding it would be best to keep their relation secret for now -- he thought she would appreciate that the most.

He quickly changed the subject back to the topic at hand. "I have no real place to be, and no plans to be elsewhere," he said, with the easy-going manner of a wolf who had never been relied upon in his life. "So...I suppose I'll be staying awhile." Oh, and he had this whole family business to figure out. Maybe. He hadn't quite decided yet. "I'm a decent enough hunter...at any rate, I'm not exactly starving, as you can see." He winked at Chivosi, rolled back to his haunches comfortably. "It's not often that one runs across a sanctuary pack. I commend you on your bravery -- many would be too frightened of ill-meaning intruders to be so welcoming."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 13, 2010 11:16 am

Chiv chuckled softly "I've found that those without a place to belong tend to be fiercely protective of one when they find it...many of my pack may be outcasts, shy or wanderers..but I don't doubt they would fight to retain their safe home if needed. We have a treaty with the warrior pack to the north as well" She assured him, she didn't want him to think they were a helpless pack incapable of holding their own.

"But you are certainly welcome to stay for as long as you like, I'm sure Merrill our beta will be more then happy to have another hunter on hand" She told him with a slight nod. "If Terreis did not tell you" And Chivosi somewhat doubted she'd bothered "There are spare dens along the tree line of the main grounds, close to the river you can stay in"

Derecho met the others gaze with one of his own - he might have taken offense to the lingering look if the other hadn't remained so friendly looking, as it was he merely wondered why Adonai found him so interesting - perhaps after his run in with Terreis he merely wondered at the type of male who could put up with her. That made some sense and the thought amused him enough to give the male a wolfy grin. "Besides..we'll just sic Terreis and Merrill on any nasty intruders that happen along"

Adonai nodded, recognizing the truth in Chivosi's words. "Warrior pack?" he questioned, lightly. He had the suspicion as to precisely what pack she was referring to. There surely must be mutual benefit to such an arrangement, and he wondered what benefit the warriors received from the alliance...although, after his conversation with Terreis, he had something of an idea. "That will suit me well enough," he added, with a good-natured smile. "I've slept in far less comfortable arrangements in my time, I can assure you."

He began to speak, to add something to this thought, but was distracted by the feeling of a pair of exceedingly curious eyes drilling into him.

User ImageBalios realized he had been seen and yelped in surprise, ducking down behind the underbrush. Oh no! He wasn't supposed to be out here right now!

...At least, he didn't think so. Balios had come to the conclusion that he really wasn't supposed to go anywhere or do anything, for fear of doing something wrong, but was incapable of holding himself to that standard.

Despite himself, the pup slowly peeked out through the underbrush once again, getting a good look at the white male. There was something that seemed familiar about him, but Balios couldn't figure it out, and it bothered him. He wanted very much to run out and say hello, but stayed in his hiding place instead, not wanting to anger Gramma and Father in the process.

"Balios?" Derecho questioned at the sight of a spotted pup in the brush, with the abundance of spotted male sons he had it was often necessary to get a second look at the pup before one could be sure of just which one it was, when his head popped out of the underbrush again and that tell tale face mask was revealed Derecho knew he had guessed right.

Before inviting the pup out into the open however he cast a considering look at Adonai - he didn't really know this strange wolf but surely nothing would happen to his son with not only he but his mother standing here as well. "Would you like to come out and say hello?" He invited his son with a slight wag of his tail to make sure the pup knew he wasn't in any type of trouble, lords when he was a pup he and Aleu had gone everywhere! Of course they hadn't been all that worried about inspiring the wrath of their mother either.

Chiv chuckled softly at the males comments regarding past sleeping quarters "Haven't we all!" She joked back, eye's flicking towards the ball of fur trying to hide his curiosity in the bushes. Pup's! They were so funny sometimes, always trying to sneak about or get away with something. When her son invited Balios to come out Chiv gave the pup a small wink. "It seems your arrival has become a matter of curiosity" She told Adonai and left off any more talk of the northern warrior pack - it was somewhat of a sore spot with Derecho when it cam to his sons. Perhaps she'd speak about it more when the pups weren't about.

"You must be a son of Terreis," Adonai said, watching as the dappled pup struggled his way out of the brush. There was no mistaking his markings -- the pup before him was, without question, the offspring of Terreis...and, by proxy, of Kaelin. He stared at him for a long, uncomfortable moment, trying to sort out his feelings on the matter.

Balios tumbled out of the bushes and clamboured to his feet, taking a moment to get steady on his oversized paws. He hadn't quite grown in to either his paws or his ears; one day, he would be a rather large wolf, but just now he looked a bit clownish.

He trotted over to the group of adults, and glanced sidelong at his father, as though making sure this was all actually okay. Then, he strode confidently forward, head and tail held high, and gave Adonai a big smile -- even if he had to crane his neck to look him in the eye. "Hello and welcome to our pack!" He said, quite seriously. "My name is Balios."

Adonai was shaken from his reverie for a moment and could barely suppress his smile at being addressed in such a way by the puppy. He glanced up at Chivosi and Derecho, his eyes sparkling in amusement, before looking back at the dappled pup. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Balios. Are you the welcoming committee?"

"One of five" Derecho piped in some of his earlier defensiveness melting away when the stranger was so kind to his son - what could he say? The closest way to Derecho's heart was through kindness to his sons and they certainly deserved the kindness, they were all good boys. Indeed he was more then proud of his brood, possibly more so then most fathers...he only wished that...Terreis would feel the same way.

The thought bought with it a small flicker of sorrow but he flushed it from his eyes nearly as soon as it appeared. He didn't want to ruin Adonai's welcome with his own troubles, he didn't know the stranger well enough to just lay out all of his problems like that.

Ah Balios! With such an electric mixture of tempers Chivosi had been curious about the sort of pups Terreis and Derecho would produce - and she hadn't been disappointed the litter had not only been wildly colored but consisted of temperaments from all sides of the scale. No doubt things would get interesting as they grew. "Perhaps he should be" Chiv remarked with a warm look "Balios could charm a snake into behaving well with his manners" She praise the pup - perhaps a bit higher then he deserved, but she was grandma..she was allowed.

"Five sons?" Adonai echoed, glancing up curiously at Derecho. Amusement glittered in his eyes. "That's enough to make any man proud. Congratulations."

Did he know how much the situation irked his daughter? Well, yes, probably.

He returned his attentions to Balios -- who had straightened up and was looking like a very proud statue -- and regarded him seriously. It was hard not to smile, but he didn't want to offend the dapper little pup. "Well, then Master Balios, consider me most honored to make the acquaintance of your pack."

Balios thumped his tail, a wide grin spreading across his maw. He ducked his head, bashfully, at the compliments of both his grandmother and this stranger, and for a moment he looked far too overwhelmed with humility to speak.

"And enough to run the pack just a touch ragged" Chivosi noted with no small hint of a smile in her voice, pups might be troublesome in their adventures but there was no shortage to the laughs either.

"I'd have been just as proud if they had been daughters" Derecho stated with a brief chuckle, though of course having sons was something most males aspired to to some degree. He supposed that was something he wouldn't have to worry about any longer - he had enough sons to last him his lifetime. not that he wouldn't be adverse to more...which was something he had better not say to Terreis. He had already spent more time in the doghouse over an ill-worded comment then he wanted to add to.

"Have you always been a traveler Adonai? It wasn't unusual for the pack to attract such wolves, even creatures filled with wanderlust wanted company from time to time and pack were no long term commitment was required seemed to suit many of them.

Balios recovered himself just in time to cast a pouty look at his grandmother. "We're not too much trouble, I hope," he said, seriously and with a slight wide-eyed look. "I'll keep my brothers in line if I have to!"

Adonai smiled. "As long as counts, really," he said, in response to Derecho's question. "Left home young and never settled down, after. It's a good life, although probably not for everyone."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 18, 2010 5:24 am

"Not at all love" Chiv told the wide eyed pup giving him a quick lick between the ear's "Though some of your brothers could almost certainly use some keeping in line" she told him with a chuckle - the recent disaster with Tantalus and poor Ari came to mind, but pups would always be pups...she and her siblings had gotten into their fair share of troubles when they had been young she was sure. She gave the pup a warm look before listening to Adonai's answer.

Derecho nodded slightly - the story was familiar, it was one their pack heard often, catering to wanderers like they did. "Sound's familiar' He told the other wolf with a slight chuckle. "In any case you are free to stay for as long as you like, leave an return as you like..as my mother has already stated we ask only that you help the pack while you are with us"

Adonai nodded, his eyes straying once more to the pup. Something contemplative dwelled in his golden eyes, but he dismissed it. Wouldn't want to concern the father...and it was none of Adonai's business to mention their relation....not yet, at any rate. "Well, I thank you again for your hospitality," he said, with a respectful nod to both wolves present. "But I suppose I should get an early start on making myself useful, and I shouldn't want to distract you further from your own duties." He smiled a lingering smile toward Chivosi, before ducking his head again in charming submission.

"I can show you back to your den!" Balios blurted out, tail wagging enthusiastically. He ducked, then, and glanced up apprehensively at his father, not at all certain if this would be an acceptable idea.
