It was one of those peaceful mornings that Yasen reveled in. The bright sun was just beginning to creep over the thorn barrier, casting everything around him in a soft orange glow. From the silence of the land that surrounded him, he guessed that most of the pack was still asleep, so Yasen set himself on patrolling the border. It gave him an excuse to enjoy himself, and do something helpful at the same time. As he passed a rose bush, he couldn't help but smile a little at a few playful sparrows that were chirping loudly at each other.
This place was nothing like his old home and he was glad for it. This was a place of plenty, unlike the scorching hot, dead lands where he was born. But that was nothing compared to the constant pain and bloodshed. When wolves had to fight for every small mouthful of food, they fought like monsters.
Thinking about the past made Yasen pause, and he stared blankly out at the barrier with his one remaining eye.

Okugi twitched her tail slightly as she looked around. It was very peaceful and quiet, which she loved. By nature she was a very timid wolf and didn't like loud noises or big crowds. So for the most part she stuck by her mate Warrick, or her adopted son, Grissom. So she didn't see much of the rest of the Pack unless she was taking care of pups or making jewelry for them.
At the moment that's what she was doing. No one had asked her for anything, but she felt like making a pretty bracelet. With deft, expert movements of her paws and hands, carefully clipped roses and bits of leather were being twined together to form an interesting piece. She admired it for a moment, then lowered her head and began to work again, not paying a bit of attention to her surroundings.

The thorn barrier seemed safe, for the moment. Not that Yasen believed that anyone would be foolish enough to break through. He knew from experience how much it hurt running through there when he hadn't been watching where he was going, once. He smirked at the thought, then let his mind wander.
He spotted a dark female up ahead, doing something he couldn't see on the ground. She seemed very immersed in the task, and Yasen couldn't help but wonder what she was doing so early in the morning. He drew closer to get a better look. It seemed was constructing something out of rose blossoms and strips of leather.
"Excuse me miss... what are you doing?" He asked curiously, his good side towards her.

Okugi jumped when she suddenly heard a voice towards and let out a small squeak of surprise, her fur fluffed up in alarm. Her face heated up as she rested one paw on the bracelet before looking over at the male who'd addressed her. She relaxed slightly when she recognized him from around the Pack, and consciously made her fur settle down. She gave a small smile and turned to face him, her head lowered slightly.
"I was...making a bracelet sir." She says, her ears flattened just a tad. He seemed...big to the smaller female, and she couldn't help but look at his interesting markings on his fur. She didn't even seem to notice his scars or torn ear.

Ahh, so she was an artisan! Yasen admired those who could construct beautiful or useful things out of mundane objects. But it was a shame that he had startled her so badly. He seemed to have that effect on others, whether he meant to or not. This time, however, he had the feeling that it wasn't his scars that had scared her. Perhaps she was naturally shy? He took a step back and lowered his head politely in greeting, just as she turned back to him with a soft smile.
"I apologize for sneaking up on you. I'm just curious," He explained, giving her a reassuring smile. Yasen couldn't recall seeing Okugi around, but her scent seemed familiar, like he had passed it by a few times before. It seemed like she was comfortable working where she was, too. "Can... You show me?" Yasen asked after a moment's hesitation. Then his smile took a mischievous light. "You can probably tell I haven't made many bracelets in my lifetime," he said with a light-hearted chuckle.

Okugi studied him for a moment, then looked shyly down at the bracelet she'd been making for the past half hour or so. It wasn't much to look at so far, but it was getting there. Making things took time, and she always thought of her bits of jewelry to be mediocre at best. She looked back up at him nervously. "No, it's all right sir. I'm just jumpy." She chuckles. She was surprised at his next remark. Mostly the warrior males or hunters of the pack would make a remark or two if they saw her working on something and pass on by. She wasn't irritated at his request, but instead a little flattered. Her face warmed a little and she shifted the bracelet forward. "Show you, sir?" She asks, sounding puzzled. She didn't know exactly what he meant.

Yasen wagged his tan-marked tail in a friendly gesture. "I am Yasen, lieutenant of the pack's guard," he introduced himself, giving Okugi a slight bow. Yasen always made sure to be polite to anyone he met, pack member or not. Especially if they were pretty females like Okugi.
"Would you mind showing me how you make bracelets?" He asked warmly, looking at her with a gentle expression, then looking down at the partially finished bracelet laying near her paws. He continued to keep his good side to her.

Okugi blinks and she fidgets a little at his rank. She blushes again before straightening herself up and trying to smooth out her fur. She had made a promise to herself to try and not be so shy, but she was having a hard time of doing it.
"I can. It's pretty fun." She says, becoming much more relaxed when she was talking about her craft. She pulled the bracelet towards her and spread out the strands. "You hold one end in your teeth and use your paws to braid it." She says and demonstrates by doing one small braid.

"It looks enjoyable," Yasen agreed, nodding his head. He watched with clear interest, admiring how easily she seemed to make the weave. Over and under and over again, and then she had a braid.
"You have had lots of practice?" He asked curiously. "May I try?" He grinned, eager to try his paw at braiding, even if it was just for a laugh.

"Yeah, you could say that." The gray female chuckles and pushes the bracelet towards him. "My mother taught me." She says with a shrug. She wondered if he could braid, since she had yet to meet a male who could do it quite so skillfully as a female. Not even Warrick could, but that didn't matter to her.

The male scooped up the bracelet with a clumsy paw and studied it. Then he grabbed one end gently with his teeth and attempted his first braid. He kept dropping the ends and it was obvious his paws had not been taught the motions to create a braid. Eventually, Yasen made a single loose weave and let go of it, grinning at himself. He had to be honest... he was proud he could do one at all! But he'd leave the rest of the bracelet to Okugi.
"Not bad for a first timer, eh?" He joked, chuckling out loud. Life was harder if you couldn't laugh at yourself. He paused for a moment, then asked a question that had been nagging at the back of his mind. "How long have you been with the pack, miss? I am ashamed to say I have never seen you before..."

Okugi watched him with interest. Her light gray head was tilted to the side and her eyes followed the movements of his paws. She couldn't help but smile gently at his fumbling motions. It made her vaguely think of when a newborn pup was walking around for the first time and it made her smile even more. Then she realized she was thinking this about a grown male wolf and she quickly stopped and looked sheepish.
"It's very good. Not many first timers can do it that well!" She compliments and smiles again nervously. She pulled it back to her and tightened his loose braid and started to add a few more. Her ears pricked forward at his question. "I haven't been here very long sir. I just came in a few days ago with my mate and his son. His name is Warrick, have you heard of him?" She asks curiously and looks back up at him.

"Thank you, dear," he chuckled again. "I hope you are your mate are comfortable here," Yasen said warmly, watching her work. "No I have not met Warrick, but if I see him, I will be sure to say hello."
It made him happy that Okugi had a small family of her own. It was always easier to adapt to a new pack when you didn't have to go through it alone. Yasen knew all too well what it felt like to be an outsider in a pack... It took him a lot of time to find his way, and he still couldn't face Willow, alphess Tera's mate...
He pushed the thought to the back of his mind. This was no time to linger in gloomy thoughts. "If either of you need help with something, don't be afraid to ask me. I'll see what I can do."

Okugi smiled a little more broadly at this. Yes, she did love her mate and he made her transition into pack life that much easier. She wasn't quite as timid as she used to be. A few weeks ago if the much larger Yasen had approached her, she probably would have fled with her tail between her legs. Now at least she could stay in close contact with him without cringing too much.
With a few more movements she finished the bracelet and admired it for a moment before looking back up at him. "Thank you sir, and I'll tell Warrick about you." She says, a satisfied murr creeping into her voice. After a moment's thought she nudged the bracelet over to him, indicating he should have it. "Thank you again. I appreciate it." She says, her face brightening up as she hoped he'd accept her little gift.

Yasen took the bracelet with a wag of his tail, admiring the finished weave for a moment before slipping it on his paw. The leather complemented his dark fur nicely. A small smile of gratitude played across his lips. It wasn't every day he was given gifts... he felt rather touched by the gesture.
"Thank you, again," he said, with a deep bow. "Now I must hurry back to my duties. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day, Okugi... It will be a beautiful one, indeed." With one last smile and a nod, Yasen left to rejoin the rest of the pack's guard.
