I read 1984 as an assignment in high school. Probably one of the better books I actually had to read.

I know quite possibly hundreds of people who have never read it. And it's supposed to be required reading in high school.

It *used* to be required.

A year or two before mine had to read it, but my year didn't. We read The Great Gatsby (f this book~) and Lord of the Flies and Cue for Treason.. I read 1984 anyway. Along with Brave New World and other's of interest they weren't teaching anymore.. That was back like 12 or 13 years ago now~
So yeah - I imagine loads of teens these days must be lacking in what I'd say are essentials...
I need to read some of these again sometime..
Been reading non-fiction instead though...

Is there already a thread for books? This one is supposed to be about articles.. hmmz

Gonna recommend "63 Documents the Government Doesn't Want You To Read" by Jesse Ventura & d**k Russell.
It's no conspiracy theory. It's disclosed documents covering everything from CIA Assassinations to FEMA Camps to Experiments done on our military.
The book also reprints all the documents referenced.

"Poisoning our children" by Nancy Sokol Green is a great book about how to change your toxic lifestyle to a non-toxic one.

Anything I could recommend would probably get me in a lot of trouble. So I will do so. Here are some books you must absolutely NOT read:

Deliberate Dumbing Down of America
The Patriot Acts I and II
John Warner National Defense Authorization Act
2083 European Declaration of Independence
Unintended Consequences
The Coming Insurrection
Industrial Society and Its Future
The Turner Diaries

I'd like to expand my list by adding:

Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion
Eugenical Sterilization in the United States
Readiness Exercise 1984
The Stanford Prison Experiment
The Wanta Plan and the Global Security Fund

these are additional articles you should NOT read.

Freakonomics. smile

This book really talks about many different subjects. How names affect a person, crime, why people join gangs, realtors, the honesty level of people, teachers and so on.

I really can't remember it all since it has been a long time ago that I read it. I borrowed it from the library and had to take it back. ): I need to just go buy one.
