Moira was taking Ciúin to the local, indoor kiddie pool. His golden wings and steely blue tail twitched with the excitement that he refused to show on his face. He loved water. He loved fire too, but water was more readily available... and safer.
He held his mother's hand, a little irritated with the noise that was around him. She paid the small few and entered, him in tow. He began looking around the pool. It was shallow, with lots of slides and other playthings scattered about. It was also pretty crowded. This is where the noise was coming from. He looked around, not amused by the jumble of indistinguishable nonsense that he could hear.
His mother tugged on his hand gently, aware of his condition. She made a couple hand motions that he was not fully understanding yet. Sign language was new for him and he still didn't know all the signs. It would take practice. Finally she just motioned towards the pool.
Understanding that she wanted him to feel free to go and play, he simply nodded. He was one of few words, but he rarely saw a reason to be vocal... unless he was arguing with his sister, Bleez. He was thankful she wasn't here to ruin his day.
Moira took his clothes as he stripped to his swim trunks. She found a nice spot to sit and read with he carefully waded out into the water, keeping away from most of the kids. He just wanted to find a deeper section he could stick his head in and listen to what everyone was saying. Not that he expected any conversation to be riveting, but there was always the chance that he'd find The Perfect Voice from the labs. Doubtful, but there was always hope.

"I don't want to," Cheyenne stated bluntly, forcefully. He remained by the side of the kiddie pool, though he had stepped back from the edge lest his brother decide he wanted to splash him with water. Again. He grumbled, his doused legs beginning to get goosebumps from the ventilation. Unfortunately, it was more uncomfortable outside the water than it was inside, but the toddler was being much too stubborn about it.
Iridian was still a little unwieldy, continuing to get used to the water wings that Otomeza had insisted they wear despite the child being a natural in the water. He wasn't going to drown -- heck, he could breathe underwater -- but he figured that he could just save himself from the lecture that would soon ensue and just take the things off later, when she wasn't looking. Now, he was preoccupying himself with coaxing his brother into the place Iridian had always felt compelled to enter. What was so bad about the water? "Bu' is fun, y'gotta try i'!" he tried again, only to be met with another furious shake of the head. Iridian pouted, trying to see if pity would make the boy jump in instead, but Cheyenne only glared. His voice was getting strained from mild frustration, but he continued, "You never been in the water! I' feels so diff'ent! C'mon, ya gotta tr--"
Just then, Iridian's right eye caught sight of something oddly familiar. He wiggled his way around, an action made relatively easy once he caught on to using his finned tail like an oar. Cheyenne looked confused, though maintained the frown, "What is it?" However, Iridian's sights were now dead set on something else, and his ears blocked the question out. It was the scales, the same kind that covered his own wing tines and laced across his own back, but they were on someone else! He'd never seen any other spawn with similar traits to his own like this, let alone similar ones to his brother. He had to check it out!
He moved through the water much like a crocodile would, with his eyes just above the surface as he propelled himself forward at a lazy pace. He didn't want to scare this new acquaintance away before they were... well, acquainted. He hopped above the water before he got too close and 'walked' the rest of the way, waving, "'Ello!"
Cheyenne crouched down closer toward the water's edge, inching a hand to hover above the surface without the threat of accidentally touching it. Idiot brother, always more interested in meeting someone new than finishing what he started... though he knew that he shouldn't have been surprised. Coaxing the albino into the water was like trying to coax a brick wall to do the same. He grumbled, "Didn't have to leave, though..."

The tan and scaled spawn was pleased when he found a sufficiently deep part of the kiddie pool to satisfy his needs. He bent low to the water's shimmering surface. His thick tail bobbed up and down as he let it float in the water. A genuine smile graced his lips as he placed his Gluttony hand into the liquid. His wings shuddered as he did this. Since the blood they were from had an affinity towards fire, water tended to get that instinctive reaction out of them.
Ciúin was alerted to the other Gluttony spawn approaching by the ripples coming towards him from behind. He slowly turned, the smile gone from his face, replaced with his unamused stare. "Hi," he stated bluntly to the seemingly chipper spawn. He'd guessed that the other had said something similar as he approached, he was waving after all.
On the chance that this was a chatty spawn he plopped down in the water. He lay back, keeping his face above the surface so he could breathe, but kept his ears below so he could understand what was said. He stared at Iridian a little awkwardly. He wasn't sure what to say other than "You're a spawn like me," which seemed too obvious for him to waste effort saying.
So he laid there, floating on his back. His wings seemed to be having a fit. They were shivering in the water and were creating little ripples under him. It was a little annoying, but he'd deal with it, so long as it didn't affect his hearing.

As Iridian watched Ciúin perform a very smart move to counter Iridian's motor mouth, the lime stripe across the bridge of Iridian's nose started to appear more and more like the mirror image of his mouth. Floating on his back, eh? Hadn't tried that move yet! In subconscious reaction, the teal-haired toddler's hand bit at the excited twitching of his own tail, staving off the waves it could have caused if it had continued.
True, this other spawn didn't appear to be very talkative in contrast to himself, but he was used to dealing with people like that. Well, as long as they didn't get fed up with him in his persistence, but that thought didn't grace his mind before the words started spouting from his mouth, "You swim a lo'?" If he had known the boy was hard of hearing, he wouldn't have hesitated attempting to speak underwater. Leaning forward, he tried to figure out how Ciúin was accomplishing his floating act; Iridian may have been a natural in the water, but this was still his first time!
After a moment of deliberation, staring at the meditative ripples in the water, Cheyenne only managed to get himself further frustrated. The time alone only succeeded in letting the pale toddler dwell on what had just happened instead of giving him any sense of courage. Quickly, he stood, almost losing his balance on the slippery concrete. Once he regained his balance, he watched his brother as he started speaking with... huh, another spawn was here? Still... he reminded himself of the abandonment, and decided to hold his anger tighter as opposed to his curiosity. In slow -- very slow -- steps, he started walking around the perimeter of the pool toward the two toddlers.

"Not as much as I'd like," Ciúin stated, bluntly again. There was no emotion to his tone; no enthusiasm or irritation. He stared up at the other spawn, seemingly able to hear him perfectly now that his ears were under the water's surface. Such an odd and truly inconvenient little quirk to his genetics.
His tail flicked slightly and he began to float, very slowly, in the direction that his head was pointed. He kept relatively motionless, except for his wings, which were still having a fit.
"My name's Ciúin," he remarked, thinking it best to introduce himself if this Gluttony spawn insisted on continuing to talk to him. "Who're you?" Again, very flat-toned. He wasn't trying to be mean or rude, he just didn't have voice-inflection down too well, despite his vocabulary.

Ciúin's tone didn't seem to bother Iridian, or if it did, it wasn't revealed across his features one bit. The other kid didn't seem to be irritated with him, and he was talking with him. Perhaps he was drowning out the possibility with his own excitement over the meeting, but an impression of annoyance -- his own fear of rejection -- wasn't registering.
He giggled at the red-head's response, giving a single, sharp nod. "I dun' swim much neither. No' many places t'go swimming close-by, 'cept for this 'un," he agreed, kicking at the water beneath the surface a little. "Wish there was a lake in the middle o' town!" he stated, trying to hold himself from hopping in place, "Then maybe we could swim all the time!"
Noticing the ripples in the water around Ciúin, Iridian paused his jabbering long enough to attempt to figure out what was causing them. What a strange thing for wings to do... As he was about to ask about it, the taller boy introduced himself. Ahh, right, he hadn't done that yet, had he? First, he attempted to repeat the name that was offered to him, but managed to only mangle it into sounding like 'Coon.' Shaking his head at his pathetic attempt, he apologized with a meeker smile and returned the motion, "'m 'Ridian, bu' Riddy works, too!" After all, at home, nicknames tended to be more commonplace than full first names.
As if on cue, Cheyenne hissed the nickname to his brother from a few yards behind the teal-haired toddler. His ears were pressed back, his body crouched to the ground and his arms wrapped around his stomach, pulling at the tips of his white-washed flight feathers as the wings hugged his back. Grumbling inwardly, Iridian decided to ignore his brother; maybe that way, the albino would suck it up and actually come in the water. As it was, he still sounded kinda angry... and he didn't want to face someone that was angry.

Ciúin's expression didn't change, but he inwardly winced at the horrid pronunciation of his name. "You may call me 'C' if it is easier for you." He wasn't fond of nicknames, especially the ones his sister called him. But if it was easier for the other boy to say, then "C" would have to suffice.
"Ridian," he repeated, still staring at the fellow Gluttony spawn. When Cheyenne hissed the nickname, Ciúin's bi-colored blue eyes slowly looked toward the source. Another spawn? And why was this one just sitting at the edge of the water? It wasn't deep enough to be a danger to him. Oh well...
His gaze drifted lazily back to Iridian. He normally wasn't big on conversation, mainly because he couldn't really understand it; so he was currently at a loss to say anything at all. Instead he contented himself with using his rudder-like tail to propel himself in slow circles around the other spawn.

Iridian beamed, bobbing his head in acceptance. The way Ciúin had worded it, Riddy wasn't altogether sure whether or not the other toddler preferred the nickname over his full name, but he liked to think of it as a step-up in friendship despite knowing that he was probably jumping the gun. Trying to put on a serious face, he stated, "Ahkay, I call you C now, bu' I will practice! Then I can maybe say i' ness' time I see you!" If nothing else, it was an excuse he could use to see a friend again.
Cheyenne caught on to this and frowned, turning his head away but not moving from his spot. There his brother was going on again, making personal promises he was never sure he could actually keep. Stupid... he grumbled mentally, annoyed with Iridian's optimism while simultaneously wishing he had more of it himself.
Meanwhile, the older of the twins giggled when Ciúin said his name, still unable to realize that he as well as everyone that he introduced himself to left off the 'I' that began his name. He noticed when the other gluttony-spawn had spotted his brother, but for once, was a little at a loss of what to say. Usually, he wouldn't hesitate to introduce his younger brother, even eager to, but... Cheyenne was so ticked off at him right now.
Watching Ciúin swim circles around him, he had to giggle again. In fact, he was tempted to give chase -- in slow-motion -- but had an idea. Maybe if he introduced Cheyenne, his brother would stop being as angry at him? Pointing to his opposite, it made the albino jump slightly with the hastiness of the action, "Tha's my brovver, Cheyenne. He won' come in da water. Wanna help me try an' get 'im in?" Make it into a game, even!
If it was possible, Cheyenne probably paled whiter than normal. His muscles locked up, as if he were like a deer caught in the headlights. Was Iridian serious!?

"I do not wish to make him do anything he does not want to do. However, if he is merely afraid of the water, but would still like to join us, then I will help you get him in the water." As he spoke his eyes slowly gazed towards Cheyenne again. The way he looked at people could be a little unnerving to most. Weird kid. In either decision, Ciúin slowly headed towards Cheyenne, like a crocodile eying a gazelle at the edge of its river.
"Why do you not come in the water and play?" Ciúin's apathetic tone directed itself right at Cheyenne and he floated right next to the edge of the pool. "The water is perfect, not too cold, not too warm." His wings, however, disagreed. To them, no water was perfect water. They shuddered under the continued wetness.
Ciúin was a little curious why this pale spawn was so, well, pale; but he wasn't about to ask. That was rude and being rude was the last thing he wanted. He just hoped that this kid was not a Wrath spawn (even if he didn't look a thing like a Wrath kid). Ciúin's minimal experience with other spawn was that Wrath spawn were no good, all others seemed okay.

Iridian huffed a sigh, pretty sure that his brother's hesitance wasn't out of any fear. Honestly, the teal-haired boy wasn't sure if there was really anything that Cheyenne feared; he was only aware of what made him uncomfortable. He almost turned his pleading look back on his stubborn brother, but his eye was distracted on Ciúin as he wandered closer to Cheyenne, curious.
Twitching, the younger sibling wasn't sure what to make of his current predicament, or what to make of this other spawn. He wasn't sure if he could really say what was bothering him, but his legs wouldn't move him elsewhere, frozen in place. At least Ciúin wasn't so willing to go along with Iridian's spur-of-the-moment games. Instead of answering verbally, he merely shook his head, attempting to scoot backwards on the balls of his feet. How did the kid find it at all comfortable, with those wings under the water's surface? He didn't realize that the shaking of Ciúin's wings weren't under his own control, however, as Cheyenne's own wings moved as easily as his other limbs.
Not that his limbs were moving very easily at the moment. Iridian sighed, irritated at how well this situation was going. "C'mon, we came to 'ave fun! Is no fun up there!" he tried, yet again, to negotiate his twin into the water. The albino tried to scowl, but he was under too much stress to accomplish it. How could Iridian understand? He was built for the water! Cheyenne was built for the darkness!
Not only that, he wasn't sure if his own wings were even waterproof. Wouldn't they be a pain to dry? Iridian wouldn't let up, however, but he was able to recognize the body posture. "C'mere. Pu' your feet in, an' come in when you wanna, kay?" he offered, thinking it might be best to take it slow. Iridian didn't want to be at this all day, but he also just wanted his brother to try having fun in the water. This show wasn't going to help with that, and noticing this, he turned his attention back to Ciúin fully. Pointing to his golden wings and how much they moved, he asked, "How you do tha'?"
If nothing else, Cheyenne was surprised that his brother might actually have something with his compromise. The least the albino could do was meet him halfway, and he was right... they were here to go swimming. Slowly, he made his way back over to the water's edge, but waited until all eyes were off of him before he sat down to dunk his feet in, surprised with the mildness of the temperature despite being told of it.

The bi-colored eyes drifted back to Iridian. "What do you mean? How do I do what?" Ciúin was honestly at a loss. He had been ignoring his wings for the better part of the exchange with Iridian. But now that he looked to what the other Gluttony spawn was pointing at, the annoyance of the wing movement came back. "Oh," he stated flatly, a twinge of irritation in his voice, "They do that on their own. Whenever they get water on them, they start shaking like that. I do not do it on purpose."
Great, now his mind was on his sunflower-looking wings again. Why'd this kid have to bring them up? How was he going to get his mind off them again? How annoying.
He felt a ripple in the water and looked up in the direction it started. The movement was a little quicker than normal, due to his aggravation (which didn't show on his face). Cheyenne had put his feet in the water. Good, perhaps this spawn wasn't a scaredy cat, just shy. "Nice water, right?" Ciúin tried to manage a false, but convincing smile, which seemed awkward for him. It was not convincing.

Despite the fact that, oftentimes, Iridian seemed clueless, Ciúin's irritation did not go unnoticed. At least, it didn't by the time the other boy had fully responded. Words didn't need to be spoken for irritation to be conveyed, and he was getting rather good at detecting and identifying electrical signals caused by tense muscles. "I's cool; i's like a motor on a boat!" he commented before paddling a little way toward the direction of a small, built-in fountain, "Wanna play a game?" Maybe he wasn't going to derail the conversation completely, but he was rather decent at changing the subject at the drop of a hat.
Cheyenne twitched when he realized that Ciúin's words were directed at him, causing the ripples to become more of a small splash. He didn't like being so wound up, so attempted to relax with slower breathing. After all, it wasn't as if there was too much attention on him. Returning the smile with his own meek one, he nodded, but also managed to add with a flick of his wings, "But 'm not a duck." Maybe that would get some understanding across, since his brother seemed oblivious to what exactly was bothering him. Even so, he continued to inch closer to the edge, though not quite enough to hop in yet.
Standing back up in the water, Iridian thought it best to re-think his plans. They couldn't very well swim over to the fountain if Cheyenne was going to be so slow about it, could they? He was used to just having his brother catch up, but only if who he was playing with didn't mind doing the same. Now he had to think of something they could do while staying here, didn't he? Noticing that a family had brought a beach ball to the "big kid" pool, he suddenly got an idea. Pulling off one of his water wings (he had been wanting to do that since they arrived here!), he watched as it floated lazily along the surface. Yup, this would work! "Wanna play catch?"

Ciúin watched Cheyenne, unblinking, as he spoke. He was merely trying to be a good listener, since he didn't often get the chance to. But it was still pretty creepy, with those aquatic demon eyes. After he was done explaining, Ciúin shifted his body, his rear sinking to the floor of the pool as his torso rose. His wings shuddered violently as they were released from the water, shaking a good deal of it off. "I am not a duck either." He looked over his shoulder, his wings still wet and useless, but no longer shaking. "My wings are not for water, they like warm and fire. But they will be okay later." He looked back to the pale spawn. "They will dry." A tan hand was offered to Cheyenne, "Come in and play?"
The red-headed Gluttony spawn hadn't forgotten about the teal-haired Gluttony spawn, nor was he ignoring him. He was actually quite aware that he was trying to get his brother into the water, so Ciúin decided to take the more drawn-out approach. "Your brother would like for us all to play a game, I think." Despite there being no actual stress on the word, "all," it somehow seemed to stick out in his sentence.

Despite the long stare that Ciúin employed to the situation, Cheyenne found it to be a little more reassuring. Perhaps it was because of the fact that it was obvious the other toddler was listening to what he had to say -- something a certain someone with similar features rarely displayed openly. True, it was always going to be a slightly intimidating feature, but it was less-so to someone so accustomed to the look.
Talking to someone new like this, however, wasn't something he was so used to. His jaw was set a little tight in an attempt to stave off his own words, shyness creeping back but his actions continued determinedly. He was still slow at sliding into the water, but the point was that he was making the effort. It helped some when Ciúin started talking instead, and an even greater aid when he offered a partial similarity the two of them shared in explanation. No, it was more than that; Ciúin was even more torn than Cheyenne should have been, despite one half craving the water. He stared, a touch of awe at the realization, before a smile creeped onto his careful features. He may not have wanted to admit it, but the fire-feathered kid made a really good point, and he wasn't going to brush the advice off. "You're right, water does dry," he accepted with a lilt of a laugh to his voice at the simplicity of the statement, gingerly taking the offered hand to slide fully into the water.
Iridian tried to stop himself from hopping in wound excitement as his brother finally joined them in the water. He wanted to say how amazed he was that Ciúin managed to get him in the water so effortlessly, but knew he'd be pointing more attention to the situation than Cheyenne -- and probably Ciúin as well -- would have wanted. Instead, the plastered smile parallel to the stripe on the bridge of his nose sufficed enough for the sentiment. He really had a way with words!
"Feels almost like Jell-o," Cheyenne murmured under a held breath, still expecting the water to be slightly cold despite knowing it wouldn't be. It was a very strange feeling, but not one that was altogether disliked. Turning his attention back, his face couldn't hide the brief flash of contortion at the suggestion. Of course his brother would suggest a game, he always did... But, then again, he also supposed that people would expect such a thing. There weren't many people who enjoyed just taking a situation in but not enacting on anything. He nodded after a moment, "Sure, I can play, too." He tried to be aware to lower the barb of his tail beneath the surface of the water so as not to pop the 'beach ball.'
Fingers toying with the passage through the held water wing, Iridian giggled a quiet hurrah. Cheyenne tended to try to go along with the games his brother came up with, but oftentimes it would be difficult to convince him to do so without the pale one's aggravation initiated. Perhaps it was because his brother hadn't been the one to suggest it to him, Iridian mused. Ciúin was certainly less pushy about such things, and although he didn't recognize it, the colorful toddler felt the light tinge of jealousy on the realization that he couldn't do the same. "A'ight, one'a you gotta try to catch the ball!" he chirped, tossing the water wing upwards with an overhand throw and not towards either one of them in particular.
