This time she'd adjusted her schedule to his.
It meant cutting short a meeting with Allen, but that had encouraged the scientist to be concise. The details of the Synchrony Project had been decided long ago; all it took were a few adjustments before it was ready to move into phase two, followed by a polite hint that Nadja had other things to attend to. What 'things' were purposefully left vague - her private affairs were her own - but they were a welcome break from paperwork.
Nadja put great store in punctuality; getting there early meant enough time to survey the scene, plan a strategy and get the jump on your opponent. Not that there was much to work with; while the base's training rooms could be augmented and modified to simulate types of terrain, this particular one was bare - a high ceiling, featureless walls, and no obstacles to impede or offer cover. Hand on her hip, the redhead thumbed absently over the Pokeballs at her belt, expression thoughtful.
Pure power, then.

Pure power was his style after all. It would be the greatest test of the strength of each other's team.
Mere moments after Nadja had arrived, Seth did as well. It was his day off and the elite was dressed in his casual, black attire. Which composed of a turtle neck, leather pants, and belted boots.
Blue eyes quickly caught sight of Nadja and his brows raised slightly while that seemingly ever present smirk appeared.
"You're early."
His long stride carried him effortlessly into the room as he folded his arms across his chest. Coming to stand at one end of the arena. Six pokeballs dotted his waist, containing the Pokemon that he counted most heavily on in battle. He would hold nothing back, and he assumed she would do the same.

Nadja smirked slightly at the sound of Seth's voice. Either he was eager or had had similar thoughts. Red hair brushed over her shoulders as she half turned in her stance to give him a knowing smile.
"So are you," she observed with a trace of amusement.
Her gaze dropped, then rose to meet the other elite's eyes again as she faced him, one hand still resting lightly on her hip.
"Did you want a moment to prepare?"

Seth snorted at the question. As if he needed a moment to prepare. He already had his first Pokemon picked out, and thus drew the ball off his belt and expanded it with a smirk.
However, he did have something in mind.
"If I win, you will stop this 'hard-to-get' bull s**t."
He would only tolerate playing games so long.

Nadja raised a brow at the proposed wager, then made an amused little sound and canted her head to the side, setting her earrings swaying. The redhead's lips spread in an arch smile. While she wasn't offended, her private amusement could mean anything.
"I am hard to get." No bullshit about it. "Be more specific."

Seth's smirk dropped into a frown, giving her an irritated look. Seriously? Did he honestly need to spell it out for her? No, Nadja wasn't that stupid... or at least he hoped not.
The man snorted. "I think you know what I want."
He tossed the ball in the air and caught it again, then hurled it out into the center of the arena. Less talk and more battling!
What came out of the pokeball was none other than his shiny Luxray. The lion-like Pokemon bristling as he stood ready for battle.

"You want what I want. Satisfaction," the redhead smirked and casting out her own ball with a graceful movement. It cracked open on impact and bounced back to her waiting hand as a massive metal arachnid materialized and locked on to the Luxray with impassive red eyes. "Agility!"
Unaffected by Raion's Intimidation, the Metagross tucked its legs up and hovered. Psychomagnetic propulsion was a far faster means of moving, and boosted its effective speed considerably.
"One favor if I win, to be called as and when I choose," Nadja conditioned.

The tall brunette smirked at that, drawing some amusement from the fact that apparently their interests were the same. However, his mind was now going into battle mode, and he focused on that completely.
With the exception of Nadja's condition, that drew a raised brow. An interesting condition, and one that was rather open ended and risky. Should she win of course.
Seth smirked, "Fine." And watched as the slower Pokemon used Agility.
A wise move, considering speed was the Metagross' weakest stat. It excelled in attack and defense, but was lacking a bit in special attack and special defense. A steel and psychic type, leaving it vulnerable to fire and ground especially... but while steel was strong against most types... electric and water did normal damage, and so would dark and ghost in this case. However, this Metagross probably had some heavy hitting moves, like Earthquake.
"Raion, Swagger!"
The Luxray lifted his head, and seem to almost mirror Seth's smirk as it proceeded to strut in front of the massive steel type.

It was so appropriate.
Nadja laughed - a brief exclamation that carried across the arena before she composed herself. The whole point of this battle was fighting someone her equal, or just close enough to be interesting, and it demanded her attention. She shifted her weight to one leg while her hand stayed on her hip, resting just above her belt. The other held the Metagross' Pokeball at her side.
"Talos," the woman called, as the floating creature's eyes took on a crimson glow, incited to confusion and ire (if it was capable of such emotion.) "When you're ready."
The iron leg Pokemon shifted unsteadily, and gray eyes narrowed on the scene. Its trainer was watching intently.. or waiting for just the right moment.
There.
As the Luxray was on the verge of unleashing his next attack Nadja's hands moved and several things happened at once. The Metagross vanished in a flash of red light just as a ball sailed out and an equally brilliant burst shaped itself into the hulking form of an Electivire.

Appropriate indeed, although the laugh didn't phase the smirk that was on Seth's face as he watched things unfold. However, as the Metagross was confused... it just sat there. Nadja didn't issue an attack. This caused the elite to lift a brow, wondering if an attack was going to be given or not.
However, he decided to go ahead and issue Raion's next attack. "Discharge!"
The Luxray growled, and electric currents started climbing the Pokemon's forelegs before releasing the energy in a massive burst. One that would have hit all participants on the field if it had been a double battle.
But then something unexpected happened. The Metagross then disappeared, only to be replaced by an Electavire.
"What the..." An annoyed look crossed Seth's face. Switching out already? An electric type, one that would benefit from getting hit by an electric move. So that's what she'd been waiting for.

There is a saying - 'Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.' However, youth and skill and treachery was another matter with no certain outcome.
The tips of Nadja's hair rose and fanned out with charge as the Electivire took the full force of the attack. Sparks crackled off his fur and he and seemed to stand up straighter, leering at Raion with piggish little red eyes and a malevolent grin.
At the call of "Earthquake!" the thunderbolt Pokemon flexed his thick black fingers and raised his arms, slamming them into the floor of the area with a guttural snarl and sending vibrations that would rattle the walls below.
His trainer returned the Metagross' Pokeball to her belt, glancing briefly at Seth's reaction. Not holding back meant not holding back.

Defense was not one of Raion's strongest points, and the attack was super effective and powerful. Thus the Luxray cried out in pain as he was flung across the arena and promptly knocked out.
So. That's how she wanted to play. Not holding back was one thing, but using what he considered cheap tactics was another. However, he said nothing, and simply adapted.
He studied the Electivire for a moment. Electric type, with low defense. Using a move that doesn't give STAB. Thus a Pokemon with high defense and attack, even if weak to ground moves, should suffice.
Seth tossed out his next pokeball. What materialized was a enormous Steelix. Its metal hide glinting in the light of the arena as it bellowed loudly. He would simply feed the Electivire the same attack it had given Raion.
"Earthquake!"
The Steelix's massive tail came down upon the floor with a brutal force.

A floor below, dust shook loose from the ceiling tiles and a cup full of pencils scattered over Hayes' programming flowcharts.
He'd just set it upright when another tremor knocked it over again.
--
The Electivire grunted in gleeful satisfaction at the pained cry from his opponent and readied himself for his next opponent, tails sparking. The appearance of the huge Steelix made him hunker a bit, but he didn't cower and raised his fists to ready another attack.
He never got a chance.
Nadja frowned thoughtfully as her Pokemon went flying from the powerful quake, skidding to a halt by her feet. The yellow striped creature raised pained, entreating eyes to her before he lost consciousness.
"Tch." The elite recalled him and threw her next pokeball out. What materialized now was a streamlined body covered in blue scales. In the water it would be graceful and elegant. On the hard floor of the arena it was effectively crippled, unable to do more than balance on its tail.
"Ophion." The redhead received an answering snort. "Focus Energy."
The Kingdra gave the massive steel snake an unimpressed look and closed his eyes, power surging around him in the dry air.

Seth narrowed his eyes as the electric type fainted and then the Kingdra was brought out. This was likely Nadja's best Pokemon. It was well rounded in type and stats. The only weakness being dragon moves and his Steelix didn't have those, plus the fact that it was weak to water meant it wouldn't last long.
However, he was not the type that liked to switch out if he could help it. He wanted to make every turn count.
"Toxic!" he called as the Kingdra increased its critical hit ratio.
The giant steel Pokemon snarled before gurgling deep in his through and hocked up a disgusting purple goo that was spit at the Kingdra. Leave it to Seth to put a poison move on a Pokemon that was immune to poison.

Ophion was in no position to dodge, but he twisted his head away in an effort to protect his eyes. The toxic purple stuff made a faint hissing noise as it dripped over his scales, giving the Kingdra a slick, sickly cast.
Nadja's brows lifted at that and her lips parted slightly even as her eyes narrowed. Well played. Her whole expression was one of focus, but it had a certain vibrant cast of interest, though the corners of her mouth pulled back a fraction as the attack hit her Pokemon.
Nothing for it. He was battling on borrowed time now.
"Surf!" the redhead called, and her Pokemon obliged. Red eyes cracked open a fraction as the seahorse rose up slightly, collecting his inner resources.. and spat. The tremendous wave of water that rolled toward the Steelix seemed to come from nowhere, inexplicable and inexorable.
The Kingdra snorted quietly as the toxin ate into his skin.
