AMITYVILLE ACADEMY ENROLMENT FORM

Name: Colleen
Nicknames: ---
Gender: Female
Age: Appears 18+

Faction/Race: Ghost -- Banshee

Personality: Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side. While some people like to stay cheerful about life in general, Colleen will be the first to tell you that keeping on the sunny side may result in sunburns. Rather than be hopeful and then disappointed she finds it easier to prepare for disappointment from the start. Like many ghosts she struggles with fluid concepts, but when looking at what is in front of her she will look at it in the most negative light. If things do work out for the best (which they so often do) she thinks 'they'll likely just get worse again'.

This is the story of a girl, who cried a river and drowned the whole world. Something about Colleen's constant negativity has a tendency to endear her to people, as her predictions are often times so gloomy and she delivers them so solemnly that they sound silly in their pessimism. While some may find her annoying (it's ok, she's used to that) many find her monotone deliverance of their ghastly fates (or her predictions of indigestion from cafeteria burritos) to be charming.

Why do you look like someone just kicked your puppy? While she may never ever smile Colleen is not necessarily an unhappy ghost, she's just apathetic. And she's OK with that. Having or showing actual emotion takes effort that Colleen is not willing to exert on daily 'life'. It's so much easier to predict doom and gloom and then shrug it off when your predictions are wrong. Smiling, getting angry, showing fear all take energy Colleen would much prefer to conserve. She's not lonely, or any sort of tortured soul begging for love, honestly she's pretty content with her lot, all things considered (not that she would ever admit this, as it comes painfully close to sounding upbeat).

You'd make a wonderful public speaker, if you weren't dead. Colleen speaks in a gray monotone voice. Her voice is actually quite lovely, but she never puts any emotion into her words. She will tell you that you're going to die with the same level of emotion that she'd tell you what she ate for breakfast (not that it was any good, she also thinks her eggs might have had salmonella). Her speech is short, to the point, and flawlessly executed, is just lacks the emotion found in normal speech.

My death rattle simply was sublime. The only time Colleen can ever be accused of showing anything resembling an emotion is shortly before someone near her is going to die. In this situation she cannot help herself, she will unleash a bloodcurdling wail of grief and anguish. It shames Colleen that she cannot control this noise or this feeling that seems to swell into her from no where, but thankfully true deaths are rare in Halloweentown so it is rarely -- if ever -- heard.

I never liked group work in school. Colleen is something of a loner. While she will not necessarily shy away from the company of others, she will not willingly seek it out either. She will speak to people, but only if she has something to say or if they speak to her first. She does not waste time with idle chit chat. Given a choice Colleen will go her own way, forced into a group she will stay on the fringes and observe everyone else before speaking her piece. Upon spending a extended time in the company of another person, some sort of passive bond should form. It will generally be something along the lines of '-long pause- oh, yeah, I like this person'. Should someone go out of their way to befriend Colleen she will likely go along with it for as long as it suits her or as long as the person pursues her, she will not go out of her way to keep the relationship going. Should their advances become unwanted, she will likely actively avoid their company.

Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. Reading is one of the few things Colleen takes pleasure in. She prefers Gothic romance in the style of Poe, Brontë, & Shelley. Not that these names would mean anything to her, Halloween Town authors having been penning Gothic literature with deliciously unhappy endings for longer than anyone cares to think. Colleen buries herself in books, where she chooses novels and works that are bleak and unhappy enough to suit her taste.

Why did they enroll at the academy?: I'll probably flunk out anyway. Much like everything else Colleen is apathetic toward her schooling. Having appeared in Halloween town on her own centuries ago, she wandered aimlessly for a long while before she decided she needed to do something with herself or risk Bad Things happening. No clue what these things might be, like everything else Colleen just assumed the worst out of her current existence. The school provided an appealing option for something that was not wandering aimlessly.

Fear: Intense Apathy: Colleen much prefers this attack to her natural ability, using Intense Apathy she can force her opponent to loose interest in the battle and sometimes if she is really lucky they may simply wander off. However, she is not very good at using this ability just yet, and it currently is only effective 45% of the time.

Natural Ability: Wail: A banshee can emit a chilling cold scream that seem to scare their opponents. Colleen dislikes this ability and uses it sparingly.

Physical Description:
Eye Colour: Emerald Green, eyes are large
Hair Colour/Style: Red/Orange -- think classic Irish redhead, worn long & held out of her face with a silver comb
Skin Colour: Peaches & cream complexion that most redheads tend to have
Clothing Style/Colours: Style is up to the artist, colors should be white, grey, emerald green. On a chain around her neck she wears a silver Claddagh ring Colleen is ignorant to the ring's significance, she's always had it.
Extra: A light band of freckles across her nose
References: n/a

Colleen is very pretty, but she does not think she is pretty. She's quite clueless about her looks, and is uncaring (at best) about her general appearance.

I really enjoy what you have going on here! Colleen's general personality seems to all mesh fairly well together in a nice, collective, apathetic whole, and everything I'm seeing makes logical sense her character. The only potential improvements I'm seeing would be the addition of a little more information in some areas that just weren't quite touched on.

To start with-- while she is apathetic, I'm curious; does she have an eventual breaking point of tolerance to certain things? She'll wail when someone around her is going to die, but what about extended social situations? The concept of "friends", even? Sure, they take a of energy and care she may or may not desire putting forth, but if she's hanging around in groups who find her downer deadpan deliveries 'endearing' even on a sparing or casual basis at school, would any feelings (even vague) of attachment ever form, even begrudgingly?

What if someone (be it a romantic interest or a clingy friend) started actively pursuing her company? How would she respond to them?

Additionally, I'm curious about what she does with herself in her spare time. It seems like she'd have quite a while to just sit and twiddle her thumbs if she's not typically social unless forced, and she's also been around just drifting for quite a while, so... does she have any habits? SOME preferences of things to do?

I really do love the good, linear sort of personality you've carried through with her though; it's very fitting and powerful for a ghost! Good luck getting her, man. You're off to a great start!

Everything has a great flow. Nothing seems...out of character with everything else you've said about her. I like how it's kept neatly together and nothing seems to stick out as...odd or unfitting and just there.

Like Hanyou I would like to know what she would do if someone wanted to be around her more? Would she eventually find herself showing some attachment or more than normal social behavior to them? What would happen if a person like this were to get hurt or something?

She follows the ghost theme well and she is a strong ghost personality. I hope to see you get her. While she's not the social sort, or so she doesn't seem to be, I think she'd be great.

I think that, eventually, a feeling akin to 'these are the people who are around me, generally, I think I must like them a little' will form. However, that thought will likely be followed by 'they probably don't like me anyway, and will stab me in the back, but ah well'. Real friendships take energy & desire to maintain, two things that Colleen is never readily willing to exert. That's not saying that if the right person comes along that she won't 'click' with them and maybe even try a little (ghasp!) but this is highly unlikely.

To toss this answer up here as well, should someone she normally associates with be injured in her presence, she's likely to patch them up or take them calmly to the nurse, all the while telling them about the effects of gangrene. One might go as far as to call her emotionally stunted, as she will do what is needed, and put the minimum effort forward, but not much more.

If someone was actively pursuing her company, she's likely just go with it & let them tag along for as long as they go after her, she will not return the favor and pursue them. Her tolerance is very high cus, really, she just can't summon a reason to care. Should someone cross that line to the point where she cannot tolerate their attentions, she would likely actively avoid them.

Yeah, you caught on to that didn't you? XD
Honestly, I have been hesitant to give her much by way of likes/dislikes becuase I like to leave these open as I develop a character. However, I would say she spends her free time in her room or the library. She likes books & stories, especially the original Brother's Grimm tales & Gothic Romance (Poe, Bronte, ect.) as they all have dreadfully unhappy endings.

Thank you so much for the crit! >w<
