Dionysus sighed deeply, his voice echoing around his living room in a way that seemed so strange to him. For once he did not request for any guests to come to his palace and entertain him, and neither did he send for any of his friends. He even sent the few servants he had off on a short vacation from serving him, so he was completely alone. In short, he was having a bit of a bad day.

He stretched out his limbs in a cat-like way across the wine-red couch he was perched so lazily upon, yawning from both boredom and his sheer lack of energy, which didn’t happen very often seems he was always the life and soul of every party he attended.

People adored him. Women thought he was bold and fun loving and so beautiful for a man, and men thought the same. But despite having all this attention none of it seemed... real. No one truly loved him, and this was his topic for this particular day.

“Oh Ariadne...” He sighed again, turning on to his back so he could gaze at the ceiling through half-closed eyes, the tiniest of smiles gracing his lips, “If only you were here with me now, you would understand.” He wasn’t even that sure what happened to his dear wife, but he knew fully well that she had been killed in some way and was no longer with him. Therefore he talked aloud to her, hoping she would hear him, wherever she was, “Even surrounded by many people, I feel so lonely.”

He turned again, now lying on his stomach so his arms were propped up on the arm of the couch with his chin resting upon them gently. Perhaps because he wasn’t fully immortal he felt a stronger connection with mortals and chose to be with them more? He did not know. Whatever the reason, he found it difficult to be friendly among his fellow gods and goddesses, and they all seemed to be happily with someone or another while he simply watched from the sidelines.

His restless tossing and turning annoyed him now, so he got to his feet and crossed the room to the nearest window, opening it with a sharp yank before leaning out of it, now staring out at the world around him.

He missed Ariadne. He missed his dear friend and foster father, Silenus. And he also missed his followers and other friends, such as Pan and the Maenads, but he was just too lazy to call for them. And he did not know where any of them were either... So, he waited instead for someone else to call on him, saving him the trouble of having to do it himself.

He hoped someone would come to visit sometime. Anyone would do. As long as they were good company he didn’t care at all who they were.
