Gahz'rilla hauled up on a rock jutting above the surface of the sea, a fish clutched in his mouth, intending to do a bit of sunning while the day was still young and he had breakfast. The high waves in this area were helpful, as well as the fact that the rock didn't rise very far out of the water and was pretty smooth and flat.
Smiling in the disturbing way of all hydra mers, he carefully dropped the large yellowfin tuna he'd caught and carefully took a bite out of it, curling his tail up onto the rock and around his fish as he did so. The tuna was good, especially at this time of year, even if the types of fish in this area were different from his childhood home in the North.
As he devoured the fish in a surprisingly neat way for someone who looked as dangerous as a hydra mer, the sun rode higher in the eastern sky, flashing off his pale, glossy scales and making him shimmer. As he licked the last of the oil from the tuna from his fine muzzle, he gazed around at the sea, which was calm today...for this area. This area was rocky and he suspected storm-torn in the wintertime, but so filled with life that it was a good place to live with his pretty kelpi lady. He hadn't seen a lot of other aquatic Soquili recently, which made him wonder a bit about these waters. He was deep enough in these thoughts for the moment that he didn't notice anyone else in the vicinity.

This was Stefanie's first time at the sea; she had her lake, and she had visited other lakes, but the sea... Looking at it, it seemed so vast... So easily to get lost in.
Her heavy body caused her to sink into the sand a little bit as she walked. Stefanie looked behinder has she walked, noticing her hooves making imprints on the sand as well as her tail dragging. It was kind of amusing, but annoying at the same time - the sand didn't seem to want to leave her hooves and tail. When she finally reached the water, Stefanie lifted up her head and felt the wind blow her hair wildly.
She stayed this way for a few minutes, but then came back down to earth again and surveyed her surroundings. On the left, the beach and sea continued together and she could see nothing but that. On the left, there was a rocky region where the waves would crash. At first, she thought that it was empty, but soon, she noticed a figure sunning itself on a large rock. "It must be a Mer," she thought to herself.
Wanting to see one in person, she approached. Stefanie had been told many stories of Mer-folk, but had never met one for herself. Going over, she put on her oh-so-famous, slightly cocky, smile. "Hi there."
Stefanie saw what he was eating and was kind of shocked. She did not know that they ate fish. Even for herself, she had never tried it, just seaweed.

Gahz'rilla looked up at the kelpie mare approaching from the shore. "Hello, there," he said in his thick Northern accent. "Eet iz a wery nice day, is it not?" He pushed himself off the rocks and into the water, needing to get back into the safety of the sea and having finished his fish anyway.

Stefanie's shades protected her eyes from the sunlight as she looked up. "Yes it is," she replied with a monotone. The breeze in her hair was calming. She looked back down to see the Mer going back into the water.
"Are you leaving already?" Her voice was slightly sarcastic, enough to mock, but not to make anyone upset. Stef was oddly curious about this Mer, being the first she really met. Well, she was still uncertain if this counted as 'meeting' yet.
Out of curiosity, she couldn't help but ask. "Was that fish you were eating..."

Gahz'rilla nodded. "I like a good feesh. Tuna seems wery plentiful here, and it tastes good. Would you like to try some?" he asked courteously.
Without really waiting for a response, he continued. "I em getting back in the water. A mer cannot live out of water, so it is wery important I stay in the water as much as possible." It was surprising she didn't know that, but maybe it wasn't obvious or she hadn't met mers before. Land and air Soquili couldn't be expected to know about mers or seathi, but kelpies...he'd taken it for granted that kelpies knew about mers and seathi.

Stef looked at the Mer, wondering slightly. She knew that others like her sometimes did eat fish, but for herself, the most she'd eaten from the water was seaweed.
"To be honest, I've never tried fish." Right when she saw the Mer get into the water, she bowed her head and apologized. "I did not mean to keep you out of the water. I never told you to get out of it, you know."
She tilted her head down and looked up over her shades. Looking carefully, it was possible to see that she winked, just slightly.

Gahz'rilla shrugged, his skeletal shoulder plates riding up and down spookily. "I nehwer said you did. It is better I should get out of the water to eat my feesh, since blood goes ewerywhere once it is spilled, and one should nehwer let blood cohwer oneself," he said philosophically.
It was true. You bit something hard enough to shed blood, next thing you knew, you were swimming in blood, and blood was nearly impossible to clean off. Sure, sharks were okay with swimming in blood, but no self-respecting hydra mer would swim in the blood of their fish dinner.
