My little discussion/review.
The game pretty much split the fanbase in half. It's very Metroid Fusion like in the gameplay. The biggest annoyance is the Authorization to use abilities, which i don't mind for weapons, but when it comes to simple upgrades I'm like wat?
Also it does away with most of the repeated themes in all metroid games. Exploration only exists to get from point A, to point B. Whenever the game doesnt want you going somewhere what does it do? It locks the door. Yup, even if you just came through it. Unlike traditional metroid games where your path is blocked by not having the upgrade to pass it, this game is extremely linear with no room for second questioning.
There's many places that looks like you can get to, but cannot because of a invisible wall.
So basically they made the game in a way that alienated the western long time fans, to try getting bigger attention from home japan gamers (who loved metroid fusion, and pretty much hated all the other metroid games and was the cause for the series to die for 10 years. )
Anyway there's also an even more controversial cutscene that really blew the lid and having hte game get slacked, hard, by many reviewers. At one point Samus has a mental break down so bad that her suit dematerializes for a bit. Just because she saw something.
I have no problem with Samus having fear, a break down, etc, but that was waaaaaay over the top. Dx
It is understandable if you know the background story and put 2 and 2 together, but the fact she talks so much in this game and doesn't explain why she was so freaked out, really made it seem she was freaked out over nothing.
