p r o f i l e

Name: Noctis Estheim

Nickname: Calls himself "Joker" ~ Due to a stint when he worked part time in a circus for a job. His nickname at the time was "Joker" and he now readily answers to that easily than his regular name

Age: 17

Birthday: December 17th

Sign: Sagittarius

Gemstone: Topaz

Blood Type: A

Fav. Food: Anything edible. He isn't picky.

Hated Food: Anything non-edible.

School: Sovereign Heights University

Hobbies:

  • Athletic -- Joker doesn't belong to any club, but he often helps with the sports and culture clubs despite that. The clubs he likes best are the socker, judo, and kendo clubs. Most of it involves physical exertion -- with culture clubs, for example, he often helps them lift heavy objects. Oddly enough, he seems to be the most well-versed in color guard. But thanks to his easy nature, other students will bring up issues with him whenever they require an extra hand or fill-in member. When he isn't helping at a club, or working, he visits an old family friend who runs a karate dojo. He's practiced here since childhood, and continues to come today.

  • Eating -- Whenever you'll see him, he always has something on hand, whether it be a juice box or a piece of bread. He's always constantly hungry (probably from his physical exertion) so he takes the opportunity to snack wherever he can. Sometimes, it appears that he has a black hole for a stomach -- capable of consuming nearly anything, even raw meat D: He often gets food from his work place, discounted bakeries or supermarkets, and is generally taken pity upon by other people.

  • Waiter/Delivery Boy-- His home situation isn't all that great so Joker ends up paying for his own tuition and living expenses. So Joker works a job as often as he can. His current part time job (at least three nights a week) is at a restaurant, which also helps with his food expenses, since he's on friendly terms with the cooks and is allowed to take home any leftovers that they might have. But he often isn't on the floor, often taking care of deliveries, transport of heavy material, and cleaning duty. He likes this job particularly because of the manual exertion. He has no desire attend to the customers in a stiff work attire. And that .. he's broken more then several dishes orz. The manager learned where not to put Joker. He's always the type to be least formally dressed while working, often reduced down to his his work shirt and pants. The reason this is a hobby, and not a job is because Joker likes working, and can't stand to be unproductive. This certainly isn't his first job and last job.

    Appearance:

  • Eyes: Purple/violet eyes
  • Face: Diamond-shaped
  • Body: Well-exercised, atheletic physique? Not too slender but not too buff either~ In between! His approximate height is 5'9!
  • Hair: x x ~ A clear gradient, from dark oak brown to sandy light brown at the tips? <3
  • Skin: Light peach

Virtues:

  • "Ahhh, I don't get it." -- Joker is extremely simple minded, ruled by his emotions. He doesn't understand all the complex, subtle nuances of society and its situations. Tactics and strategy are certainly not his forte. He's a guy who runs off instincts and impulses, not strategy. He would rather look at something obvious, and sum things up into a simple statement. But when it does get complicated, he often ignores things in favor of what he can understand. He doesn't bother with overthinking the situation, instead, following his gut instinct. This makes him a difficult person to fool.

  • "Let's play a game!" -- Joker is always willing to participate in anything fun ♥! Win or lose, it's all the same to him. He takes part in anything that he holds an interest in, regardless of what it is with an easy going and carefree manner. He's not afraid of what people think of him and doesn't easily take offense at things, still remaining relaxed even in the midst of battle. He doesn't hold very much grudges, taking people's outbursts and insults toward him in stride. He's also never afraid to admit when he's wrong. Joker isn't particularly stubborn on any issue, able to take both sides into view without being biased. As a result, he's very tolerant of other people's point of views even if he doesn't agree with them personally. As for gossip, Joker doesn't really care. Let them say what they want about him ~ ♫

  • "As you like." - With a perpetual light smile he almost always wears on his face, he is always joking, being silly and not acting seriously. He's able to see the optimism in a situation and even when he isn't optimistic, he's at least cheerful. He takes happiness in the little things that most people don't bother with, such as being friends or greetings. He doesn't see the point in worrying about little things. Even if you insult him, he brushes it off, rarely taking offense. After all, it takes more than a few barbed words to deter him ♥ Most see him as a cheerful guy who doesn't let much bother him and has very little worries, even in the midst of fighting as he enjoys the thrill of a fight. Even if he did have worries, he will address the worst of people with a customer service smile and continue to maintain his view ♪

  • "Nothing is impossible." - Due to his home circumstances, he's learned to be hardworking person who never gives up on anything. He believes that with enough effort, you will always gain results. He may have to work harder than other people but he certainly doesn't mind. He isn't one to take the easy roads or short cuts, seeing absolutely no fun in that.

flaws:

  • "Don't kill me. Life just becomes enjoyable for me." -- Due to his easy going nature, people doubt his sincerity of the given situation. He is rather frivolous in that he never seems to take things seriously. He inadvertently hurts people by unintentionally making light of their feelings. People often yell at him to take the situation more seriously, but in the end, Joker rarely accedes to their requests. And due to his fun-seeking nature, and in turn an emotional nature, he often doesn't think before jumping into situations and ends up recklessly taking actions without thinking things through.

  • "No matter." - Rather than using his skills to fight, Joker is more than likely to stop a fight. He dislikes violence and bullies, never seeing the point in that. After all, wouldn't you rather be happy? But needless to say, he can fight if needed to. But in reality, he's actually very patient. He doesn't pursue issues or arguments, leading people to think that he gives no real thought. He's too humble and obedient to the point where you can order him around, listening to any request as long as he agrees. He'd rather make other people happy and help others - rather than helping himself. He often gets the short end of the stick, taking more burdens upon himself than he should. When troubled, he keeps it to himself. It's not out of the need to restrain his emotions but rather that he doesn't feel it's important enough to bother anybody with.

"Uhh." -- He has the subtlety of a brick. This is not to mean that he's straight-forward in a blunt way. Rather, because he doesn't understand the 'subtle' nuances of society, he's more than likely to touch upon subjects that people would stay away from. For example, 'o_o.. Could it be that .. um.. it's that time of the month?' which never bodes well for him.

  • "Y'see, I don't trust you." -- Once you snap Joker out of his laid-back personality, you'll realize that Joker doesn't trust people easily. As expected of his simple demeanor, he relies on his instinctual intuition of people and things than anything else. While it doesn't happen often, Joker is very hostile to people he deems suspicious. Once he considers someone as an enemy, he sticks to this opinion, no matter what. There are only a few times when he takes a definitive stand but once he does, it's impossible for him to change his mind. It doesn't matter what the hell they're doing. And he refuses to say otherwise.

Knight Title: Necromanteion, Knight of Saturn

  • Saturn -- Watchers, binders, death.
  • Gothic culture and Victorian.

Challenge: "Let the sinners burn in the flames of hell!"
Uniform:

  • Dog collar around his neck
  • Jacket hanging from his shoulders
  • Pants and two side chains hanging off from his pants
  • I'm not really sure but seriously, the style I envision is similar to this (dude on left)
  • [Possible Color Theme: I was debating red/black but seriously?? Let me know your opinions!
  • This is mostly left to the artist, but I added a few stuff I'd like to see *A*
    * Oufits are subject to change, if the artist could please talk to me in case I get inspiration later on? :>

Weapon

  • » Page: A staff, but extremely plain as a long black stick. I'd imagine that it is made of something similar to wood!

  • » Squire: It becomes an extendable staff. It's material is comparable to a flag staff -- very sturdy! When it strikes his enemies, it causes slight paralysis in the limbs it strikes, and the target is immobile for a few seconds. He may only use it 3-5 times maximum per battle. Ideally, I'd like the weapon to have silver ends and a slight design!

  • » Knight: Like this (Fai on the left side) that can be used like this. Any strikes from his weapon can still cause mild paralysis (re: squire attack). His second ability is that chains may now physically bind people by wrapping around their limbs. Either ability may be used at a time (not both). The duration of constriction depends on his health as well as the number of people. If it is only one target, he can bind them for 45 seconds to 1 minute. If he must must constrain 2 enemies, it may last from 20 - 30 seconds total. If the battle wears on too long, if he has to divert his focus, or is heavily injured, his chains can become loose and the binding effect is weakened.

But again, the strength and number of times he can use his abilities varies, depending on his own endurance and/or the enemy's strength/numbers.

Design wise, the silver engravings are more complicated!

Footnotes:
  • Was nicknamed Raven in his past life
  • Really, really bad with aiming

COMMISSION INFO

  • THOSE POCKETS AND PANTS~ here! and those chains and accessories: here

OPEN TO CRIT. (except for the lack of his first name !_! )

This is SUPER minor -- but you might want to consider changing his name. Tartaros is the name of the parallel existence to Elysion, the place where everyone was sucked into during the sleeping sickness meta event, and I just think it might be sort of confusing to have a Knight named Tartaros too. To me, it would be like Knight Barren Pines. Every time I looked at it, I would be confused for a second because I would only think about the meta event with the same name.

It's absolutely not a big thing. But with so many awesome things to choose from, I personally wouldn't choose something that has already come up ICly in Moonshop metaplot. Just food for thought!

Ah, good point! D: (that detail totally skipped my mind ;;;; )

I changed his name to Necromanteion -- a temple devoted to death, believed to be the door to the realm of Hades. It's also in line with Saturn. Hopefully, that is a better name? :D

That name is magical. "Necro" sounds like a better nickname than "Tart" anyway! If I get a chance I'll try to drop in some real crit later, ahah.

[edit] APPARENTLY THAT TIME IS NOW.

For his weapon, I think you might want to consider changing it. Right now, it reads as if he is a member of the Negaverse because it is a primarily offensive weapon that gets minor magical properties in its final stage. (Which I know you note at the bottom!) Knight weapons were, to my understanding, intended to be relatively useless as a physical weapon and almost exclusively valuable for their magical properties except in very rare cases.

For example, my Page has a bow and arrow -- but her arrows are blunt at the ends. So they can thump somebody, but they will not be doing any severe bodily harm. At her next stage, it is the same exact weapon -- but now it has magical properties! And then at the final stage, it is MOAR MAGIC.

Knight 'weapons' don't have to be weapons at all since they are largely hand-to-hand fighters. He could carry an hourglass, hold a harp, have two coins, a talisman, etc etc. Instead of just giving him a stick, I would perhaps try to make his profile more unique by designing an object that is incredibly unique to his particular phenomenon.

Wikipedia talks about symbols of death here. A candle might be cool! Maybe it starts as a candle, becomes a candle on a staff, and then a REALLY COOL candle/staff. Maybe he could use his power by snuffing out the flame on the end of it (or lighting it). I DON'T KNOW. These are just some ideas to help get your mind rolling.

I see you have the note about him exchanging magic for a blunt force weapon, but in my personal opinion, I just think it seems to Nega-y. This might be because I am more interested in the differences between these classes than the similarities. So perhaps I am biased! This is just food for thought on a way to make his quest more unique.

[editedit] On the civilian! I would tweak his first "not too concerned" flaw to make it sound more negative. The first half of that block almost reads like it is something he enjoys about himself. I would hit the nail on the head more about how this really does screw things up for him, aside from people thinking he is a drifter. Can he not make meaningful connections because of it? Does he not have best friends? Being a kind guy, I would be surprised if this trait became close to 'apathetic,' but I definitely think it should sound like more of a bad thing than it does now.

I edited stuff into both the flaw and changed the weapon around~ I still have no idea if it's okay but if anything else needs to be clarified/edited further, perhaps I can hit you up on AIM *o*~

Hello, again!

Since you have "Joker" in quotations, I assume this is a nickname. So what is his real name? I think you should include it, even if he makes everyone call him Joker.

His civilian form looks good to me. I still have a few more clarifying points for the Knight side of things.

For his squire stage, I would clarify that it causes mild paralysis in the limb that he strikes, as opposed to all limbs. Knight magic is typically channeled, but if you want to do an attack like this that has short bursts of effectiveness, make sure you indicate a total number of times that he can do this, or perhaps just a total length that it can be effective in a single battle.

For his knight stage, none of your photo links seem to be working for me. It might just be my computer! I think the progession from a staff to a staff with chains coming out of it is fine, so long as you emphasize that the chains are not massive sources of damage. Knights are supposed to be the magical equivalent of a Nega with less brawn and more sparkly magic. So I would cut out the bit about him being able to use his weapon to block enemy attacks (since that is kind of an assumption in the course of a battle that anyone could use anything to defend against attacks!), and instead focus entirely on the magical binding.

Since this is a new talent on top of his squire ability, make sure you mention that he is still capable of his squire attack in this Knight stage, and then I would actually tone down the Knight attack. When you grow to Knight, you either strengthen the duration/power of the squire attack OR you add a new ability. You are doing both by giving him the ability to bind people AND paralyze them even more in this new one.

I think you can just say that he is still able to paralyze a limb on a person with a good thwack (just like squire), but his chains can also wrap around a person, allowing for them to be physically bound on top of that (and nixing the additional paralysis on top of his existing ability to paralyze). Again, I would add in the total amount of time he could bind people. Say, he could bind one target for 45 seconds to 1 minute, but if he were trying to bind two people, it would only last 20-30 seconds total. Does that make sense?

If I am being unclear, please shoot me a PM!

Other than this, he is ready to stamp. =)

If you want to do the two-spell route, then at Knight stage the Squire spell needs to be used exactly as described in Squire stage -- the paralysis aspect should still only last a few seconds. Right now it's reading like an opponent would be bound by the chains for 45 seconds AND be mildly paralyzed for that full time. That's pretty overpowered!

Usually a Knight who has two spells should only be able to use one OR the other at any given moment. So in Necromanteion Knight's case he can either hit an enemy with the staff to momentarily paralyze them OR physically bind them with his chains. I would fix the Knight spell description to say specifically that the chain-binding is his second ability and remove any references to the paralysis effect. You should also specify how many times he can use his Squire spell before his energy runs out! I'd give him 4~5 hits maximum.

I notice I'm repeating a lot of the things Casey said, so I'm not sure whether you've edited the Knight portion of his profile since then or not. Regardless, you still need to make these fixes if you want the civ AND Knight portions approved. :>

Oh, I'm sorry I wasn't so clear on this -- the usage limit would be for his Squire spell, not his Knight spell! ^^; The 45 second mana pool already serves as the usage limit for his chain-binding.
