Having recently returned to the dens area after giving Guinevere a good warm up training exercise Terreis was ready to do a border patrol or perhaps go on a hunt. Soon enough her adopted daughter would leave her to join the sisters to the North and begin her training. And to be training aside the Queen's heir and daughters was a great honor for Guinevere. Her daughter was learning quickly, and the more she trained and learned now it would accelerate her training once she got to Antianeira. She would indeed serve the sisters well when she was older, perhaps even make up for Terreis' abandonment of the sisters and her Queen. Well that is if Varia accepted her daughter and did not hold Terreis abandonment against her.Ensuring Guinevere was ready to be left in the dens to rest and to seek refuge from the sun that still plagued her Terreis turned and left the dens.

There was a great deal on her mind now, even since that male Adonai had come to the pack Terreis had spent more time thinking than anything else. What she needed to do most of all right now was to clear her mind. And the best way to do that was to go on patrol duties. Pausing to take a quick look around to ensure there were no unwanted wolves around, namely her sons, Terreis set off. Moving quickly and quietly Terreis made for the border, alert to all sounds, smells and sights that could prove either a threat to the packs safety or to interrupt her moment of peace.

User Image If Adonai was particularly troubled by anything, he certainly wasn't letting it show. Then again, he wasn't really the sort of wolf to dwell on the unpleasantries in life -- he was a live-in-the-moment type, and he found it to be his personal responsibility to make any particular moment the best it could be.

This was a cozy enough pack. He'd only been here a couple of days, but he could see himself spending some time here. The wolves seemed nice enough, the territory secure...one of the better places he'd holed up for awhile, at any rate.

He couldn't help his curiosity about Kaelin's daughter, however, and he suspected from her slippery avoidance of him that the feeling was mutual. The more he thought about it, the more it began to seem very likely that...well...there was something more to the story. He wasn't sure how he felt about that at all.

And so, despite his better judgment -- which generally told him that it was best to avoid matters of sensitivity, as they tended to end in melodrama -- he had begun pursuing Terreis actively. Eventually, if he followed her around enough, surely their paths would cross and she'd be forced to talk to him.

Did he think she wouldn't notice him following her at a distance? Terreis held back a snarl, she did not like being followed, be it by a stranger or one whom she knew. Moving from a walk to a faster lope Terreis ducked into the trees. She had silence on her side, for she could move without being heard thanks to her training. So quickly and quietly she looped around him, coming out from the trees behind him, about ten feet separating them.

"Just what is it that you want?" She asked him harshly, not wanting to beat around the bush and play twenty questions. Though he would tell her what she wanted to know this time, no avoiding questions. There were some things that had been on her mind and now was as good of time as any to get those things sorted out.

"You're a lot like your mother, you know," he said, good-naturedly. Perhaps he should have been more intimidated by her, but Adonai was a confident wolf, and one that tended to fear very little -- especially not a wolf half his age, however well-trained she was. "Very stealthy. Also, blunt. All very endearing qualities."

His grin spread up his maw, eyes glinting good-naturedly. "She seemed to like me much better, though. Although, I was younger then, and likely much more handsome, so I suppose I can't blame her."

Once again he had not answered her question, but instead made a random comment about her mother. It annoyed her that Adonai spoke of her constantly, as if they had known each other for a long time. Terreis knew that was not the case, as mother would have only spent a short time with a male in order to - well she didn't want to think about that, not yet. It was one of the many nagging questions on her mind, but part of her did not want to know the truth.

"It is how I was raised." She told him simply. All wolves raised in Antianeira could move silently, stealthy as he had put it, welll the females could at least. But enough about that, she had asked hi a question and had received no answer, this was not satisfactory so she would have to ask again. If he didn't willingly cough up an answer this time, well then she would beat it out of him. "You didn't answer my question. What do you want? Why have you followed me?"

He shrugged. She was...frigid. Yes, that seemed like the right word. It made him kind of sad.

Had Kaelin been this cold, this irrationally angry? He tried to remember, but everything was clouded over with a haze of nostalgia. Still, he'd remembered having a genuinely good time with her, even if she'd been a little blunt...a little rough. She's immediately walked into his life, taken control, and remained his dominant until she left without a farewell a few days later.

In the scheme of things, it hadn't seemed the sort of thing that he would remember...but he did, and the longer he thought about it, the more vividly it all came back to him. Odd, the things that can make a lasting impact on your life.

But that wasn't what mattered just now, and he shook his head out of his reverie, his grin unmoving upon his maw. "I'd like to talk to you some more," he said, simply. "Is that a crime?"

He just wanted to talk. Terreis was not much for idle chit chat, but she did have to admit that there were things she wished to learn about this new wolf, about his past mainly. "Then talk. I do not like being followed when I am busy with my duties." She told him bluntly. He didn't seem at all put off by her resistance to talk with or be around him. He seemed actually quite mellow about it, perhaps too much so.

"A crime?" Terreis nearly laughed at that. Was it a crime to want to talk with someone, well perhaps, that all depended on the situation really. "Well that depends on which pack borders you are within. Here speaking is not a crime, other packs however, would not allow you to speak even if it was to try to talk your way out of death." Had he first ran into her in Antianeira lands he would not have been given the opportunity to speak, for he would be chased down and should he act the way he did now likely killed - especially if Varia was there.

"That's a shame," he said, and his voice suggested that he really meant that. "Progress never happens in a society without discourse."

His eyes narrowed shrewdly, but he continued on in a gentle, mellow tone. "So what is that brings you to this pack? I know your mother didn't come from these lands, and you don't seem...necessarily... in place here."

It was going to be a long, arduous talk, of that Terreis was certain. Lowering herself onto her haunches, Terreis figured if she must endure whatever talks were about to precede then she may as well be comfortable. Though she sat, her body was still on high alert, something that had been ingrained in her from years of training. "That is but your opinion Adonai."

He had to ask that question didn't he? It was honestly something she had asked herself many times since she had joined YMCA, and on the bad days, continued to do so. "I happened upon it in my travels. My old pack had, at the time, been disbanded and broken, torn apart by war. It was right before I came her that my mother had died." She still kept the knowledge that she had siblings to herself, as she was yet to trust Adonai enough to share that knowledge. "All I had known had been lost, so I decided to start a new life...here. And it is here that I acquired my mate and my new family."

Looking off into the trees Terreis couldn't believe herself. Once again she had openly divulged a great deal of information to this virtual stranger. Perhaps Varia was right, she was weak and had abandoned her pack and her duties to the Queen. "Only after devoting my life to this pack did I learn of the restoration of Antianeira. But my life is here now." Eyes returned to Adonai. "Now, I have answered your questions, it is time for you to answer mine. I wish to know everything about you, including the time you spent with my mother. Leave no detail unspoken Adonai."

He smiled. Ah, so there was softness to her, after all. He made note to meet her mate, as he felt they would have much in common.

He said nothing of the sort, however, deciding against further agitating her. "No detail unspoken?" He echoed, with a faint smirk upon his maw, his tone gently ironic. He shrugged, then, also leaning back upon his broad white haunches, calico-colored tail folding beside him. "Not much to say about me, really. Was born some distance West of here, and had the sort of falling out with my father that we were both too proud to move on from. Wandered a bit, here and there, spending time in a pack or two. And once, awhile back...a few years, I suppose it's been...I found lands near here, though perhaps further north. It's hard to say for certain."

If Terreis was uncomfortable in baring her past to a stranger, Adonai seemed to be quite a natural at it. He cast his gaze skyward, contemplatively, golden eyes glimmering with the fond haze of nostalgia, and continued.

"While I was wandering, I happened upon a female -- or, rather, she happened upon me, and rather violently, if you get my meaning. I'm no trained warrior, but I can hold my own in a scrap, and I managed to hold her off long enough to convince her I meant no harm in trespassing wherever I'd wandered, and after awhile she consented to let me go."

He paused, then, uncertain if he should go on. Terreis had said, after all, that he spare no details...but somehow he doubted she meant that literally.

Terreis sat quietly while listening to Adonai tell his story. It was short, which was disappointing, as she had hoped for more than just a vague description of his life before she ran into him. However his story sounds quite a bit similar to others she had heard. Wanderers, she had been one once, it was a slightly hard life but certainly manageable. "A few years back? How many?" She questioned idly, though honestly she was thoroughly curious if not slightly concerned.

"I find it hard to believe that my mother was stopped by mere words and then so willingly let you go. That goes against many of the laws of Antianeira. Especially if you did wander into their borders. Now, the details that you left out if you please." She was trying to be nice about it, as it was expected of her in this place, but her patience was already growing thing. Had she not asked for no detail to be left unspoken? Males, they were always looking for shortcuts around everything. She was a grown adult and therefore could handle anything he through at her.

"Well..." His brow furrowed. "I don't know how many years, honestly. I've kind of lost track of time. But it was before she had pups, I'm sure of that."

He sighed then, at her pressing insistence. "Well...come, Terreis, you're a mother yourself," he said, and gave her a withering look. "I'm assuming the pups didn't exactly spring from the ground. Somewhere along the way, you found a male that you probably found moderately attractive -- or at least weren't repulsed by -- and you spent some time with him." His brow furrowed.

"I'm older now, I suppose, so maybe my story isn't so believable. Or maybe you're just reluctant to accept something you never knew about your mother. But I can assure you, while she would never have invited me to her den, she was plenty satisfied to spend a few summer afternoons with me outside of pack borders."

He dropped golden-bright eyes to her, piercing, and a smirk stayed firmly upon his maw. "This shouldn't come as such a shock to you, unless you believed yourself spawned of immaculate conception?"

"I know full well how pups come to be Adonia, for I have five sons to prove it." She was angry now, with him, her mother and herself. So it was true then, what she had suspected, or at least this gave her more solid proof that it could be. "And I know of the reason any sister of Antianeira would seek out a male from outside of the pack." Now she was on her feet, pacing and doing her best to hold back a growl. She should have never invited him to stay here, best to have just sent him on his way and pretended that she had never met a stranger at the border. But now this ugly truth was staring her in the eyes, oh sure she could look away but it would still be there.

"What I am reluctant to accept is you." Anger filled eyes looked at him as she continued to pace. After all these years, why now. She had been content to live without the knowledge of any father. Most of the sisters didn't know who their sires were, unless fathered by a pack slave. All these years she had just assumed that her father was dead or in lands too far away to ever reach her.

Of course Terreis could still fix this. Adonai could always just leave or be told to do so, and then she could go back to the way things were, and she could forget she had ever met him. Also, Varia and more importantly Iosef would still be in the dark about the other half of their parentage.

His ears drooped slightly, and his eyes flashed with something that looked like genuine hurt. "You don't even know me," he said, lightly, and allowed a soft smile upon his maw.

"...Honestly, Terreis, this isn't precisely easy for me either."
And it wasn't. If he'd known Kaelin had wanted him specifically for pups, and not just a good time, he would have at least offered to stay with her and raise the children. He wasn't such a bad wolf. And now his daughter hated him, based on...what? His absenteeism? His existence? It was unfortunate, whatever the cause. He sighed, and glanced back to her. "But it would appear -- with the preponderance of evidence, at any rate -- that I am your father. And I need to know what to do with that knowledge."

As if she didn't have enough males in her life, now she was staring at one more, and one that she was having an even harder time accepting than her own sons. It was just one thing after another wasn't it. Sighing she shook her head, for some reason unknown to her she was clearly being punished for something. "And it's supposed to be easy on me?" She questioned him, finally bringing her pacing to a stop.

"Let me clear up a couple of things for you. Mother would have never asked you to stick around, you would not have been welcomed in the pack - ever. Males are nothing to the sisters but slaves and breeding fodder." If he wanted to know why she was so hesitant to accept him then Terreis was going to lay it all out for him to know. "Those that enter the packs border uninvited rarely leave." She figured he would understand what she meant by that, however if he questioned it Terreis would explain it further.

"I still hold those values close to heart even though I live in this pack, whose members think the ways of the sisters is completely wrong. As for the knowledge of being my father, do what you wish with it, to me it is nothing - fathers are of no matter to the sisters." It wasn't that Terreis completely wanted him to leave and never be a part of her life again, but it would take time, lots of time, for her to adjust to this - just as it had been hard to adjust to raising so many sons and it still was.
