It was dry today. Dry like yesterday. Dry like the day before that even, and so on and so forth. The sun was reigning over the plains once again, and HollowStep had to keep his head bowed because of it, shielding his already normally squinting eyes against the harsh light. Whenever he could, he and the two that saw fit to follow him would seek shade - none could be found nearby, however, barely even water. That was really the main thing driving their small group now: basic neccesities. Food, shade, water.
Which was what he didn't understand: He had made no promises to either mare that he was ever going to find a herd or otherwise stable home again, and yet here they were for their own apparent reasons; one to "guide him", the other in rebellion of the decision that had cast him out. Both had such a tenacity that HollowStep couldn't shake them off, and as such he effected a perpetual state of disgruntled annoyance to put them off, hoping that enough days with him would make them change their minds.
So far it wasn't working, and the day was still hellishly hot. Hollow grumbled darkly under his breath as they slowly ambled along, keeping to himself as per usual, blindly following.

Storm was typically a cheerful mare - and despite the heat and Hollow's rather disgruntled cranky temper lately - today was no exception. Being the youngest of the trio, full grown but barely so she often found herself distracted by things that had long since lost their charm with the others. Funny shapes in the clouds, the smell of a new wildflower, birdsong..and at this very moment the dancing flight of a colorful dainty little butterfly.
Storm really wanted to get a better look at the little creature - but the blasted thing kept flying off as soon as she got close, which she supposed from the butterflies point of view made a bit of sense considering how very big she was compared to the insect, which of course didn't do anything to daunt her from trying.
Which ment that she was currently trotting an erratic zig-zag pattern in front of her plodding friends as she attempted to follow the butterflies flight through the grass. "Here butterfly! Herrrrre pretty butterfly!" she chanted in a sing song voice as she went as though trying to lure the little creature back to here - which quite apparently wasn't working worth a damn o far.

RavenLight looked between her two traveling companions. One was as grumpy as always and the other didn't seem to have a care in the world as she chased a butterfly. Giving her head a slight shake Raven wondered how some days the group managed to stay together and not get on each others nerves. Well lucky for her she had patience to spare, well for the most part at least, even now and then Hollow would get on her nerves and that's when her polite demeanor would end. Today though was much like any other, she was just trying to keep them together and moving. What they needed more than anything else at this moment was water.
"Good heavens Storm." The mare called out. "Stop chasing that butterfly, we must get moving." Raven was sort of the mother figure of the trio, keeping the others in line and reminding them of things that they may otherwise overlook. "If we don't find water soon we will all be in trouble." Raven gave Hollow a nudge with her nose trying to get him going and then turned her attention back to Storm. The young mare had a lot to learn now that they no longer lived in the protection of a herd. "Come on then Storm." And she walked forward, hoping that perhaps beyond the rise up ahead there would be a stream or other small source of water to drink from.
