The moon illuminates their destiny...

Orihime still remains a captive in the endless white hallways of Las Noches. Her caretaker, Ulquiorra, stays as stoic as ever, watching her behind impassive green eyes every day. But when Ichigo and friends draws closer and closer to the white fortress of Las Noches , so does the 4th Espada's curiosity towards the young human girl. Can the nihilist really end up understanding the meaning of having a heart? And will the two completely different souls, a powerful Arrancar and a human, really admit that what they desire can be found in the depths of the others eyes?

Orihime knew Ulquiorra was coming. Even long before she could hear his evenly placed footsteps from down the hallway. It was so routine now she didn't even have to hear; she just knew. Maybe it was instinctual, but even with the moons unchanging position she knew that he came to her at exact intervals of time. A sigh escaped her lips. “How many days have I been here?” She whispered to the silence. She gave a brief pause as if she expected an answer back. “Or better yet, how many days will I stay?....” That question she knew didn't have to be answered; she wouldn't be leaving Hueco Mundo. She dragged her gaze from the door and returned it to the barred off window to the backwards moon.

(OOC: Not at all :3 Just remember, that all off-topic talk should be placed like this. I also colored your text orange, to let others know that you are playing Orihime and not Ulqui ^^ Especially considering your avi)

Ulquiorra had been walking down the endless white corridors of Las Noches for a couple of minutes. As always, his posture was calm, rather elegant and prideful; as if, he had no intention of bowing down to anyone if they were gonna stand in his way.
His deep green eyes trailed down the hallway, just to stop when they found hold in the massive door that lead into the woman's cell. He always came to her like this - Followed by a low ranking Arrancar who served her daily meal while he personally carried information about her foolish friends progress in the merciless dessert of Hueco Mundo. He had no intention of pampering her; He wanted her to be healthy and smile if possible, though that was probably too much to ask for... but his main object in this, was to check up on her. Nothing more. What he did other than that, was just out of curiosity or because he had nothing better to do... or, so he wanted to believe.
The low ranking Arrancar went into her cell as the first one; placing the tray of food next to the woman's bed before swiftly leaving again. Ulquiorra had personally instructed him to do that; leave as fast as possible and with no chatting what so ever. He just wanted to be alone with her.
"You are gonna stay here until Aizen-sama is done with you." He answered her earlier question, a question that she had for some unknown reason spoken aloud before he had entered. His deep green eyes found hold at her face and He suppressed the sudden urge to frown. "You have already given up your body and spirit to us, to Aizen-sama, so there's no need to mourn for your existence here."

(OOC: Okay, :3 Sorry about that; it totally slipped my mind >.>. And that's fine by me : ) )

Orihime turned as if on cue when the door opened, her eyes skimming over the lower leveled arrancar and focusing on Ulquiorra. She pondered curiously as to why he did that; let his fraccion do the work while he just stood there. Or better yet, why did he come at all? If his faccion was capable of delivering her food, what was “his” purpose; his motive? And the answer to that came to her in a heartbeat: He wanted to watch her squirm.
Her eyes widened fractionally when Ulquiorra answered her previous question and her lips pulled downwards into a frown, her eyebrows furrowing slightly. “So that means I'll either stay here forever or when Aizen “is” done with me, he'll kill me.” She adverted her gaze from his stare as her frown deepened. Even that sounded too morbid for her, perhaps she “was” mourning her existence. “Yes, you're right. I did give my body and spirit to Aizen....but I didn't give him my heart. That belongs to my friends, and you can never take that away.”

((OOC: Actually, Ulquiorra doesn’t have a fraccion at all, but I guess Orihime doesn’t know that xD – and sorry if the post is kind of long, I got carried away -.-))

Ulquiorra watched her intensely; the impassiveness quickly leaving his eyes as foolish words slipped across her tongue. Even though her words belonged to someone without hope, he knew that she deep down still lived in denial; hoping that an escape would be possible. But who could blame her? She was a prisoner behind the enemy’s line, and her only hope of escape was a group consisting of several hotheaded Shinigami’s, a quincy and a human. Why bother hoping for a thing that will need a miracle to work?
His eyes narrowed slightly; just a bit, when she diverted her gaze and kept talking. Normally, he had to pull the words out of her, but apparently he had hit a soft spot this time. “Most likely.” His words were monotone. “Your body and spirit belongs to Aizen-sama, so if he decides that your death is necessary, then that will happen.” He didn’t know what Aizen-sama wanted with the woman besides from being interested in her unusual powers; had she just been kidnapped to lure the Shinigami’s out from their hole? Or was she here for other reasons?
Being ignorant wasn’t something Ulquiorra found very enjoyable, so when the woman started blabbering about her heart once again, he stepped towards her; one soft echoing step that cut mercilessly through the silence. “Your body belongs to us.” He didn’t understand her logic. “Therefore, the organ that pumps blood throughout your body, the so called 'heart', belongs to us as well... because without it, you wouldn’t stand here…” He stopped 2 meters from her; his cold piercing gaze finding hold at eyes. “Breathing, defiant and alive Seeing the heart as more than a organ, was blasphemy and didn’t make sense… he couldn’t accept such a thing.

(OOC: Yeah, I've always wondered why he never had one of his own; perhaps he thought having them showed a sign of weakness? Pfft and no problem; I definitely know how that goes. :3 )

Orihime tried to refrain herself from showing any fear towards her captor. But even so, an icy shiver came down her spine and her hands clasped together to hide their trembling. Ulquiorra was intimidating to say the least, but she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction by showing it, so she returned his stare with one of her own.
She didn't understand why she said what she was about to say, or where her sudden determination came from, but she couldn't refrain herself. She didn't like how he simply disclaimed her previous statement with such ease. She felt as if she needed him to understand her; she wanted to crack his otherwise indestructible armor that surrounded not only his skin but also his heart.

“The heart isn't just an organ Ulquiorra...it's the many bonds that you create with people; it's the parts of yourself that you share with others so that a relationship between them can form. It's the many emotions that are felt; the joy of seeing the people you love, the sadness of seeing them fight...it's so much more than this.”
Orihime stated, indicating her own heart by placing her hand over it. “Why can't you see that?”

To her it seemed like such a simple concept. It was such a concrete thing in her life....but since meeting Ulquiorra...it all seemed so fragile...A single word from him seemed to be able to shatter anything she said and there she would be, picking up the pieces of her resolve in order to put it back together. But she had to believe in it: her heart, her friends, and everything that they all went through together. Because though she was weak alone, the bonds that she made with her friends gave her strength to go on.

(OOC: I just don't think he would be able to command a fraccion at all... seeing how anti-social and independent he is ^^’ And again, sorry for the long post… I don’t know if long posts are bothering you, but when I get a good reply from you, I can’t help it ^^’)

Orihime’s insecurity didn’t go unnoticed. Ulquiorra’s merciless green eyes saw it all including every small detail that made his stomach turn slightly in disgust… Not because she was afraid or insecure of herself, that much was to be expected, but the fact that he knew she could be much more confident than she was right now. He found it fascinating and admirable when she stood up for herself… that intrigued him about her…

So when she finally gathered whatever courage she could muster, and spoke again, he couldn’t help but feel slightly pleased. “Heart.” The single word slipped across his tongue with no effort what so ever. It was such a simple word… A word he thought he knew the definition of… but even so, that single word had brought him more questions than answers during the woman’s relatively short stay in Las Noches. Why now of all times? “I do not share such fictional emotions, woman.”

His green eyes lowered to her jaw, the collar of her uniform, and all the way down to where she kept her hand; the place where her supposed heart was placed. His eyes inspected the area silently for a couple of seconds. “I do not feel joy when seeing others, I do not feel sadness when others fight; I’m a soldier, and I fight because I serve a greater purpose… A thing I do not feel sadness while doing.” He suppressed a soft sigh and his shoulders lowered slightly. “I can’t see a thing that doesn’t exist – I can’t see these so called emotions that the organ in your chest fools you into believing in. You’re living a lie, woman, the heart you believe in doesn’t exist.” He was merciless… cruel… cold-hearted… and he knew it. He couldn’t believe in a thing that didn’t exist, and he didn’t intend for her to believe in a lie either. He would enlighten her, and teach her, even if it should take him hours, days, weeks or years. He would do it.

(OOC: Lol, true, very true indeed. And seriously, no problem 0wo Why would they annoy me? >:3 It gives me more to write to~
How many times did they have this conversation? How many times did Orihime try to convince him? It didn't matter to her, all that mattered was that in the end she could somehow get to him, somehow explain to him that he wasn't just an unfeeling statue. He “had” to feel something, that much she was certain of. Even though it was slight, but his features did change; the slight widening of his eyes in surprise, the further downturn of his lips in annoyance. But then, why did he claim not have emotions? Why did he pretend that to him they didn't apply?
And there he went again, undermining anything she said, breaking down her argument to be nothing more than folly. But this time it didn't cause her to give up, but only grow more determined.
“It doesn't just have to be just joy or sadness, Ulquiorra. What about determination? Curiosity? Then if you can't see them, then you must feel them.” He was once human, all of the espada were; so why can't he remember what it felt like to feel?
“For someone who claims to see everything why can't you see that? How can you be so blind?” It was with that one last statement that she knew she crossed a line, because with that statement she was pointing out a short-coming of his. Though if he were actually telling the truth then she would have nothing to fear, he wouldn't feel any annoyance towards her or even anger; but she trusted her own instincts over his self-serving statements. She believed he felt something, she just didn't know what he felt or to what extent.
She sat motionless, staring at him, wondering if she should even make the attempt to distance herself from him. She knew it was pointless to do so. If Ulquiorra really wanted to hurt her, then he would do so.

(OOC: Pheew, that’s good to know ^^’ Some people just don’t like long posts since it takes some time to reply to them… contra small posts ^^)

Ulquiorra tried to be patient and listen; listen to the woman’s blasphemy concerning fictional human emotions. However, her constant insisting was beginning to make more and more questions form in the back of his head; questions he, at the moment, had more than enough of already.
Why did humans need a heart in the first place? Why did they need to hold onto false emotions if they made them weak? Why did they invite emotions of sadness into their fragile beings if the feeling alone invited despair? Every question just gave thought to even more, and apparently, the woman herself couldn’t even explain what! These fictional feelings were or answer any of his questions to the fullest.
”I only believe what I can see, woman.” His words were firm and determined – unwavering, even though they weren’t entirely true. If it wasn’t because he doubted his beliefs slightly… just a bit… he wouldn’t have bothered to keep the whole ‘heart conversation’ alive in the first place. So why did he start to believe that there were more out there than what his deep green eyes could see? and why did he start to feel those exact same emotions she talked so genuinely about; determination and curiosity… He wouldn’t admit that he felt curious from time to time, but determination was definitely a huge part of his life… mixed with the ever haunting feeling of pride and desires… desires for things he couldn’t put words on... yet.
However, just as he was about to be lost in thought, he was ripped back to reality by the woman’s words. Daring words, dangerous words, challenging words.
He wanted to smirk if just for a bit, but he held it back. Instead, he approached her with soft almost elegant steps – his deep green eyes never straying from hers. “You cannot verify that something exists if you can’t see it with your eyes, feel it with your hands, smell it in your nose or hear it with your ears.” He stopped just in front of her – his slender yet muscular frame hovering slightly over her, since she was sitting at the couch. He looked down at her as he casually placed a hand at the armrest just next to where she sat to get closer to her. For many fateful moments he didn’t speak… he simply watched her as if he was trying to solve a riddle; a riddle he, for some reason, was unable to solve no matter what he did. “To be blind may be one of your biggest assets, woman, but it’s far from one of mine.” Even though his words were slightly cold, as usual, they weren’t a warning… he was simply fascinated by her reaction and her sudden boldness.

(OOC: Lol, nope, for me the longer the better ^-^ I like reading and it's always great to know that I gave you a suitable enough response in order for you to write so much <:3 )

Ulquiorra was so close; the closest that he's ever been to her, and that didn't go unnoticed. Orihime let out a shuddered breath between parted lips as she continued to stare up at his deep green eyes that were so easily able to steal all of her attention. If he truly didn't have any emotions then how was he capable in making her feel what she was feeling at this moment? Confusion, fear,....and something else that she couldn't quite put a name to......endearment? Her own curiosity about him was forming against her will. She shook her head slightly to clear her thoughts and she brought her mind back to the present. She was brought to another question that she couldn't answer as well. If he didn't have any emotion, then why humor her conversation? Even carry it out? Even if he clearly destroyed her argument, what was the point in doing so? What did he gain out of all of this?

Her tongue traced over her suddenly dry lips as she searched her brain with a suitable rebuttal, but none came to mind. Perhaps if he were to leave and give her the time to think it through....but at this very moment everything that she could think of sounded weak, even to her.

She wanted to be out of his line of sight. His intense gaze was unnerving. And the way that he scrutinized her....it made her not only lose most train of thought, it also made her nervous. But it also gave her ample time to examine him back. And there she found her response. Instead of thinking with her head – like he always did- she would use her heart. “If you don't think that you have any emotions Ulquiorra, then I guess I'm just I'm just going to have to believe hard enough for the both of us.” And with that her lips pulled up in a small smile. She knew without a doubt that to him it would sound like a weak and useless defense, but it's how she truly felt.

Her eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion to what he said. “But you can see them Ulquiorra.” She boldly raised her hand, letting her fingertips brush over the back of his hand on the armrest. "You can see it when people walk down the streets holding hands, you can feel it inside,” Her other hand yet again rested over her heart. “, you can hear it in the laughter of children. It's out there Ulquiorra, you just need to really open your all seeing eyes and find it.”

(OOC: Aaaaaw, well that's good *Feels honored* <3)

Ulquiorra watched her silently for many long moments. Normally, he would have pulled back long ago, creating some distance between them, but he was too fascinated by her reaction. He had expected a reaction, yes, but not the one she was currently showing; she seemed… surprised? But not in a negative way. Instead of fear or disgust, she seemed to accept his presence so close to hers.
For some reason, he couldn’t believe it; that he didn’t scare her. He was a mighty being, able to squash the very essence of life right out of her lounges, if he wanted to do so. He had the ability to turn her life upside down; fill her with lies, fill her with darkness, fill her with Despair
But she wasn’t afraid… how could one single human be so brave? Or stubborn for that matter?

He wanted to comment on her sudden silence, but he changed his mind once the woman ran her tongue along the soft skin at her bottom lip. It was a very subtle motion, a motion he probably would have missed if it had been another person doing it… but she was somehow different. Struck down with the sudden urge to touch her bottom lip, he was utterly disgusted. Disgusted by himself and the indecent thoughts that had infiltrated his otherwise indifferent mind. However, lust wasn’t one of the fictional emotions he wanted to bow down to; that much was for sure.

Ulquiorra couldn’t help but frown slightly when the woman finally gathered the courage to speak again. Her logic made absolutely no sense… “You’re free to do that.” A soft sigh escaped his lips; a rare sign of defeat. “But I can assure you, that it’s not gonna change anything.”
He didn’t manage to express his growing disbelief any further, since all future words were put to a stop when he felt the soft sensation of the woman’s fingertips at the back of his hand. She was crossing the line… a line the 4th Espada’s unnamed desires wanted her to cross. For some reason, the woman made everything more complicated than it needed to be…

To regain control, he slipped his hand from the armrest of the couch, and quickly grabbed the woman’s wrist. It was a quick movement, so fast that the woman couldn’t possibly see it, though the force he used was minimal; just enough to hold her in place and still not hurt her. “’Heart’” His hand traveled from her wrist and up to her upper arm where he still held her In place; his eyes lingering at her chest. “If you truly believe that the heart is placed in your chest then show it to me.” His voice was firm and determined, though his hold at her upper arm was rather gentle for someone capable of breaking bones with the very same hands. “Show me your heart.”

(OOC: 0wo;; Sorry for my long delay in reply; The last book to the "Hunger Games" came out, (my favorite book ever >X3) and I simply could not put it down no matter how hard I attempted. And as soon as I had finished, "Birth by Sleep" came out >w> so thus, any free time has been stolen. But both are now either finished or gone and I'm back :3 lol )

Orhime couldn't help but feel elated when he finally relented and her smile grew slightly wider. Even if Ulquiorra said that it didn't matter, that it wasn't going to change anything, it was a step in the right direction. Because eventually something would change and she hoped it would be for the better. “But you're not quite sure of that are you?” A rhetorical question; she didn't actually expect a clear answer from him; half of the things that left his lips only caused her more confusion.

Fear spiked in her when she suddenly felt his hand locked around her wrist, but the fear was soon replaced by another emotion. One that she couldn't name....or perhaps didn't want to. His fingers were so cold that she could even feel them through the fabric of her sleeve. Another shiver ran up her spine as she stared up at him with widened eyes. She was more shocked by this action than the sudden grabbing of her wrist; that action was too fast to register at the moment, but this slow, deliberate trail of his hand down her arm....Her mind simply went blank and her breath came in a soft gasp.

(Show him my heart?....My physical heart? What does he want me to do? Take it out of my chest and put it on display?) She tried to drag her thoughts away from the morbid turn they took. Obviously he couldn't mean it that way...right? Were they not just speaking about how the heart is more than just a physical aspect? But how was she to show him what she was trying to explain?

When the shock of the moment passed and her breathing slowed it was her turn to give a sigh of defeat. “I don't exactly know how. Or at least not in the way that would make it any more clear to you. Give me some time to think on it; but I will show you the true meaning of the heart.” She said, a determined smile gracing her lips. (Maybe the first step would be to show him kindness.....? Or to open up...and perhaps he would follow by example.....) She tried to imagine Ulquiorra showing his emotions but even the sheer thought -even with an imagination such as hers- seemed to be an impossible feat. (But I won't give up.)

((OOC: It’s totally fine :3 I know how that is, though I rarely find a book I like. I’m kind of picky >.>))

Ulquiorra frowned deeply when the woman questioned him once again. ‘But you’re not quite sure of that are you?’
To be questioned like that was kind of daring. Did she believe that she could just throw such assumptions at him, without ever getting to pay for it?
Honestly, if someone else had questioned his beliefs like that; indirectly indicating that he was easily wavered, he wouldn’t have tolerated it. Only! Because it was her saying it, with a smile adorning her lips, he found calmness in the big hole in his chest and accepted her words as foolishness rather than an insult…
Only her.

”I don’t have any disbelief in the world my eyes are seeing.” He watched her calmly as he kept his hand locked around her arm. He was secretly fascinated by how thin it was… if he wanted to, he would be able to break that fragile arm like it was nothing… but actually, for once, that knowledge only made him uncomfortable.... for once, it made him just slighty worried, knowing that he held her life in his hand. “So if you want to challenge my beliefs, and make a fool out of yourself and your Nakama in the process, then I won’t stop you.”

Actually, he wanted her to challenge him. He wanted to see her fight for those fictional human emotions that clearly meant the world to her… He figured that sometimes it was better to live a life in ignorance contra knowing the truth. Especially when the truth made you lose a purpose in life. What would she do if she understood that there was nothing in this world known as a ‘heart’? At least, not in the context she believed in? Would she cry? Would she be angered? Would she feel… empty?
Ulquiorra allowed his long cold fingers to brush the sleeve that adorned her arm with long, soft and slow strokes. It was almost as if he was trying to test the fabrics durability. Her words about showing him the heart, despite the fact that it didn’t exist! In the first place, didn’t stop the caressing motion either… He just continued. “The heart doesn’t hold any meaning, so I believe that you’ll never be able to show such a thing to me”

What would she do to show him? Pull it out for display? His green predator like eyes lowered to her chest once again – the fact that he was so close already, made the thought even more tempting. “I won’t allow you to do anything to your body that would might hurt it…” When light dawned on him, and he realized just what he had said, he quickly added; “…Aizen-sama needs you intact”

(OOC: You should give it a shot >XD lol. What is your favorite book anyways? 0wo?)

Orihime's lips pursed at Ulquiorra's comment about making a fool of herself. Just when she thought she was making head-way he “still” thought she was foolish; and to call her friends foolish as well! She couldn't stop the slight furrow of her eyebrows as she stared up at him. It felt to her that with every step forward they were taking two steps back, and it was simply frustrating to say the least. “Just because our beliefs differ, it does not make me foolish to believe in them.” She grumbled to herself. Her own statement caused her brows to furrow further. It seemed almost hypocritical for her to say such a thing. Wasn't she herself trying to change his views about the heart? She shook her head in slight confusion. (No silly, you're trying to enlighten him and show him that there is such a thing as a heart and emotions, because they actually “do” exist.)

She tried to read his expression, tried to get some insight from this “seemingly” emotionless espada but to no success. She wondered what he thought about when he followed Aizen's orders, or really what he thought about in general. If he truly didn't have emotions, then what would he think about? So much of her own thoughts and decisions were based upon her own feelings.....So what were his based upon?...She simply couldn't fathom it.....it seemed lonely. But these thoughts came to a crashing halt when she yet again felt his fingers against her arm. Caressing her in that slow motion caused her mind to go blank again and she hardly heard his next comment; it fell upon depth ears. To her horror she felt a rush of heat lay claim over her face and her heartbeat increase in pace. She tried to ignore both the feeling of his fingers and her confusing emotions to no avail so she simply turned her face away to escape his intense stare.

After unscrambling her thoughts she returned it to the immediate obstacle that she was facing: How exactly was she to show him the “heart”? The heart to her was such a simple concept for her to understand but now that she thought about it she couldn't truly form any of it into words....How did she herself come to learn of the heart in the first place? Pictures of her brother and her friends crossed through her mind and yet again it was glaringly obvious. Love and friendship.....But Ulquiorra lacked in both.....This would be harder than she had first anticipated.

She felt her eyebrows raise in surprise when she heard Ulquiorra declare that he wouldn't let any harm come to her-self inflicted or otherwise- and for a moment there it actually seemed to her that he might actually care. But the notion was simply crushed when he mentioned Aizen. She couldn't stop the soft sigh escape her lips when she looked back up at him. “You don't have to worry about that; I learned my lesson.” Orihime responded softly when she remembered how she had tried to starve herself by refusing to eat, only for a certain Espada to threaten to force feed her if she were to refuse....and when he actually backed up his threat by taking action. It was definitely not the best moment in her life.
