████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ My Statsxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Name: Mei Hwa Li Age: 24 [Now 25] Gender: Female Birthday: Fall 19 Height: 5'5" Hair color: Black (dyed brown) Eye color: Dark brown Sexuality: Bisexual (prefers women, though) Job: Receptionist at the clinic Journal/Diary: On top of her dresser ████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ ████████ My Storyxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx About: Mei comes from a fairly influential and wealthy family. She grew up being the best -- best grades, best piano skills, best looks -- which stemmed from a fierce competition she had with her three older brothers, all of whom were on their way to becoming doctors and politicians. It wasn't until she entered college that she realized that she truly was just kind of mediocre and unimpressive, and struggled. She wandered around aimlessly for a while until she dropped out completely, moving away so she wouldn't have to deal with her parents. It's her first time being completely independent and having a job. She's allergic to most animals, and is illiterate when it comes to technology (even the internet confuses her).
Mei was born in Beijing and is fluent in English and Chinese.
She had a really bad break-up with her girlfriend before moving out here, and it has warped her perception of things. Even though a few years have passed, her ideal woman still fits her ex's personality and appearance perfectly.
Since moving to Nirvani, her life has taken an... interesting turn. Her closest companion is her "pet" cactus, and she spends most of her time at work, where she is continually bullied and harassed by her boss. Even though she's been getting crazier by the moment and she's been spending an unhealthy amount of time in the storage cupboard behind her desk, she can't really complain, not really.

• • • BACKGROUND
Mei was born in Beijing to a very influential businessman. Her father was the CEO of a major corporation. From the start, he had very little to do with her. He already had three sons, all of whom were several years older than Mei. But his wife wanted a daughter more than anything, so to make her happy, he agreed to try once again. Thankfully, her wish came true and Mei was born, and Mr. Li was able to return to his work.
Mei was raised to be a good wife. She learned English from a young age, she went to the best private schools, and she played the piano. Her eldest brother grew up to follow in their father's footsteps, and the other two went on to succeed in the fields of law and medicine. Mei, the youngest, the only girl, wasn't expected to be much. More than anything, she was her mother's pet. That's why she wore the dresses her mother picked out for her, why she played the piano music that her mother loved, and why she got good grades, to make her mother happy.
Of course, she grew up pampered and spoiled. Although she had been raised to be modest, demure, and polite, she had also been lavished in compliments. She grew up believing that she was the best pianist, that she was the smartest girl in school, and that her beauty was unrivaled. And considering she was raised in a small, exclusive community of CEO children, it wasn't hard for her to be the best. She kept up with her piano lessons, so her playing was smoother and more polished than theirs. She was gifted with natural smarts, so she didn't have to work to get better grades. And her mother had once been a great beauty, and so she inherited some of those genes. This persisted until she was in college. All of a sudden, she was thrown out of the gated world she had known and into the world. In her university, it wasn't just her and some privileged others. People from all over the country, all over the world, attended the university. Suddenly, she wasn't the best pianist. She wasn't the smartest girl in school. And she was in no way the most beautiful. In just a few weeks, she realized how truly unremarkable and plain she was. And she slipped.
When Mei was nineteen, she met Jun. Jun was twenty-four, and worked at her family's restaurant down the street from school. Mei fell in love with Jun at first sight, and the two began dating almost immediately. Homosexuality was not something you'd display in China, and so the two of them kept their lesbian relationship a secret. And they were happy. But months passed and Mei could feel herself spiraling out of control. Jun was older and had different goals and wants. Mei was insecure. Then, one day, Jun broke up with her out of the blue, and that's when Mei hit rock bottom.
She flunked out of college her first year. She couldn't bear the thought of her mother's disappointment or her father's rage... so she ran away. She ran away to Nirvani and is still hiding from her parents.
