Y'know, the thing. You get inside, stick a little metal piece into a hole and turn it, then you can go places. Technically my first car, as I don't count the '95 Silhouette minivan I was driving prior since I didn't really own it. This is all about the 1993 Acura Vigor GS I recently purchased, and as this is my first topic here, do bear with me. It's got power windows, power locks, power sunroof, anti-theft system (which really doesn't work very well, or works when I don't want it to), 159,xxx miles on the odometer, purchased for the humble sum of $850. It's a good deal rough around the edges, but it's been reliable to a point so far. Few minor electrical issues need addressing at this stage, as well as the body work still needing to be done, but I think I've gotten that squared away. Doing good deeds for people can be a pretty profitable thing at times. Oh yeah, and don't ask about the baseball card. I have no idea how that got stuck in the high-mount brake light. This is been helping me out a great deal.

Hey another Acura owner. Your Vigor certainly looks like it's in better shape than mine. Body looks clean, nice interior leather. But, sounds like mechanically yours is in a bad way. Keep us updated and welcome to the board. wink

Oooh, nice interior!
Sounds like you got some fun times ahead. Otherwise, pretty good looking car!

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the encouragement. smile
The fact that it's one of only 32,000 examples built for the American market during a three-year run in the early 90's does make for a nice conversation piece and all, but it's a pain to find replacement parts for it. I had NAPA quote me a price for the brake caliper I need, and the part came with an $82 core charge, and I swear I've been to four different locations just to buy all the seals I need for it, when one should've had everything.
Though, surprisingly enough, the distributor seal came in this morning. I'd only ordered it yesterday, but I guess since it was ordered before noontime they were able to send it out. I now have everything I need to get the first leg of the restoration project underway.
Honestly, it was between a 1989 Buick Reatta or this Acura. I figured I'd have less of a headache dealing with the Acura, so I picked that.

I like how you can tell people you drive a "five banger." It's a bit more common with today's Volvos and I think Volkswagens packing them... but it's still funny when people ask a Vigor owner if it's a four or six, and they say neither.

You're more right than you know. Every time I've brought my car into a shop, they assume it's either a V6 or an I4, but I have to tell them that it's neither, and they always look at me funny. Anyways, I've updated the progress just a tad, and I've also changed out the transmission fluid (unfortunately it's an automatic, but I'll work with what I can), and already I notice a difference in smoothness of shifting.

I like to be ever the optimist about this, but it's hard when the income isn't where it ought to be.

Likewise. As uncommon as they are, it's always good to see people who can appreciate them despite the fact that they look like electric shavers. dramallama
Anyways, electrical problems abound. I'm almost convinced the battery cable leading to the starter motor is shorting out whenever I have even the slightest load on it (i.e. stereo) and the engine isn't running. I'll turn the key and everything dies. Need to replace that.
Afterwards, I may end up needing to pull the instrument cluster to fix a dying speedometer, but I'm hoping that it isn't that. It sounds like a big pain in the a**.

I would check the ignition switch first. all those symptoms point to that. maybe $50 to fix... 20 or 30 if you open the column and do it your self. seriously this happened to mine about 6 yrs ago, and it was just the ignition switch. theres some funny wiring in there. also keep an eye on your distributor, they're only good for a couple of years. wink
AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN ELECTRIC SHAVER! scream stressed I think they're lines are perfect. heart just look at how little over hang there is past the front tires. 4laugh

Already know it's not the distributor, rebuilt that when I had to change the o-rings, valve cover gasket, spark plug tube seals and whatnot.
But ignition switch sounds funny, although if I pop the hood, get out of the car and wiggle the cable a bit afterwards, it all starts working.
