Beloved Stargazer

Name: Matthew Desmond

Nickname: Matt, Matty (unless you are his sister, please refrain)

Age: 20

Birthday: January 6

Sign: Capricorn

Gemstone: Ruby

Blood Type: A+

Fav. Food: Pizza, Medum-rare steak, Rice, Sushi, Tea

Hated Food: Anything too spicy, which really sucks when you the rest of your family loves the hell out of it. He's not a fan of most peppers as well, even the mild ones.

School: Destiny City University - major in Computer Programming

Hobbies: Computer Programming - Yep, this isn't only a future career - it's a hobby. Where most other young adults his age would be out with friends or at parties, Matthew is at his apartment, working on his lastest project. Sometimes it's just for fun, sometimes he sells them to businesses for a bit of pocket money and to get his name out there. He's really skilled at this, and had been reading books about coding since he was 12. He sticks to C++ for programs, and php/mysql for web interfaces.

Computers - Kinds of goes with the above - Matthew is quite knowledgeable about computers, their maintenance, and building them. They're his work tools, after all ! This is a hobby because he follows up with the lastest hardware and is also known to tinker often with his machines. He also does some home computer repair for spare money when times allow.

He owns a desktop PC for most of everything, and has a linux distro on an old laptop to have handy. Macs are only good as doorstops, and he isn't in the least bit shy at making that opinion known.

Anime - Matthew is a closet anime freak. You won't find a single figure on his desk, or a single wallscroll on his wall - but look on his external hard drive and you will find gig upon gig of downloaded subbed anime, most of which he actually watched. It's just so handy ! Do some work, watch an episode or two, then go right back to work ! Matthew only listen to subbed anime, in spite of not knowing a lick of japanese. He's a bit of a purist - original version when it's available to him. His favorite genres are shounen and mecha, and his favorite series is Full Metal Alchemist : Brotherhood.

This is not something he flaunts about himself, but you might catch him looking for subbed DVDs when he thinks no-one is looking... The reason he hides this hobby is that he feels like it's something for children, since he got started on it with Pokemon and Digimon when he was young.

Tea - Perhaps it sounds a little surprising ? But Matthew is a huge fan of tea in nearly all of it's forms, and pretty knowledgeable at it. This is a passion that was introduced to him from his maternal grandmother, who is actually asian. You need caffeine for those long coding sessions, you know. Soda is too sweet, coffee is gross, and do you even know what they put in those energy drinks ?!

Matthew's favorite tea is chai, and green tea. Hold the sugar. Hmm. <3

Virtues: Reliable -- Matthew does not give his word easily - when he does, he means every letter of what he says. He might not be able to help you with your nasty breakup, but he'll listen to you cry for hours if that's what you need. If he promised you to meet somewhere, it will take a major accident for him not to show up - and even then, he'll call you as soon as he realizes he cannot obliges to his word. Matthew is pretty much the guy that is right where you need him to be at the right moment.

Accommodating -- In a world of give and take, he's the one that's most willing to give - within reason. This doesn't go as far as to become a flaw, most of the time, but Matthew comes ready to compromise and deal with circumstances and events the best he can. What's the difference with hanging with his sister or with his best friend, as long as they end up having fun ? This also gives him a great deal of adaptation to last-minute changes.

Resourceful -- Matthew is used to working with limited tools and a lot of restrain, time-wise, so he knows how to make the most of everything he has - time, as well as tools, objects and situations. He has a very good ability to improvise and make do with what means he do possess, and while he lacks some of the charisma a good leader should have, he's a very good person to have by your side.

Determined -- He's not one to give up on something once he decided on it - he knows what he wants, where he's going, and more-or-less how to get there. He very rarely start something he does not finish - and if it happen, it was completely unplanned. He's a hard worker, often seen up until the early hours of the morning, cup of tea nearby, hammering out the last bugs of a school assignment before turning it in.

Flaws: Blunt -- If you ask him for his opinion, Matthew says what he thinks... sometimes not with the best wording ever known to mankind. He doesn't intend to wound, most of the time, but Matthew lacks the skill to turn the truth into an easy pill to swallow when it's not what the recipient intended. He says things exactly as he sees them, and will not understand if you become upset. You asked... right ? Why ask if you didn't want to know the truth ?

Tunnel-Vision -- For all that he's a logical person and knows how to improvise... Well, he often loses sight of the greater picture, while focusing on the tiniest little detail, which... may in fact end up being useless in the end. He needs to separate things into sections, tiny bit by tiny bit, until he finally manages to form the whole - if you ask him to try to big, he will probably fall on his face. This is also part of the reason why he's a great adviser, but not a good leader - he gets lost in all the little details he need to deal with, and loose track of the greater purposes. He also learns best when given information in small, easily understandable chunks - attempt to have him learn and remember too many things at once and he will get lost.

Holds Grudges -- Oh, he might forgive - but he'll never truly forget. Matthew keeps a tally of all the things you did to piss him off, and he is quite certain that you do the same. One betrayal and, while he might accept you back in his life, he'll just make sure that you're never in the position to do what you did again. He can be pretty vindictive about this, unless it's for the greater good. He takes things such as trust very seriously, and once it's broken, it's really hard... Most often downright impossible for someone to truly earn it back, unless you are someone very important to him. He can be reasoned with, and you can avoid this if it looks like what happened could genuinely an accident, or if you have a very good reason for what you did, but if he doesn't consider you a close friend... well, though luck.

Reckless -- Matthew has very little notion of his own safety. He will take risks that he believes are calculated, but really are not. His determination is often a double-edged sword in that he will rarely back down even when it's clearly past the time that he should have, and will need to be dragged off a losing fight if his anger is sparked and his buttons pressed. He's the tiny poodle barking up at the great dane. It doesn't always end nicely. Through he rarely starts fights, he is more than willing to finish them.

User ImageSenshi: Alunite. As he was corrupted straight into the negaverse, his actual star name is unknown.

Challenge: Do you fear what hides in the dark ?

Fuku Colour: Main Color: Brown-Black, with some pure black details (see ref please)
Secondary Color: Purple

Fuku: ------->

Attacks: Sailor Scout Attack: Umbra Eclipse !
Alunite calls out his attack, then spreads his arms outward. For 5 seconds, nothing happens. But then, just like the moon hiding the sun, Alunite then proceeds to make either himself or an ally invisible to anyone radiating positive energy. This does not make them invisible to other corrupted beings, or to civilians. This also doesn't mask the target's power signature - only makes it hard to pinpoint exactly. The attack also doesn't cancel out any noise they make. This effects lasts for 10 seconds before it fades. The attack can be canceled if Alunite is interrupted or distracted while channeling.

Super Sailor Scout Attack: Umbra Eclipse, Dark Moon !
Alunite calls out his attack, then spreads his arms outward. For 2 seconds, nothing happens. But then, just like the moon hiding the sun, Alunite then proceeds to make up to three corrupted beings - spread in between himself and his allies - invisible to anyone radiating positive energy. This does not make them invisible to other corrupted beings, or to civilians. This also doesn't mask the target's power signature - only makes it hard to pinpoint exactly. The attack also doesn't cancel out any noise they make. This effects lasts for 20 seconds before it fades. The attack can be canceled if Alunite is interrupted or distracted while channeling.

Eternal Sailor Attack: Total Eclipse !
As before, Alunite calls out his attack, but this time moves his fingers to frame the hole on his forehead - his gaze focusing on one opponent. A small beam on energy shoots out of his forehead, very quick and hard to dodge. If the beam hits its target, it is then plunged into total darkness, as if suddenly dropped into the dark side of the moon. While they might feel like they were dropped somewhere strange and foreign, it is in reality only an illusion. The target is unable to see anything, and thus somewhat defenseless - also, while in the shadow of the eclipse, any positive energy attempt on the person (healing, another senshi attack) will fail. The attack lasts 20 seconds before it fades, and Alunite can only use it once a day unless he has consumed a starseed or energy.

Why the Negaverse ?

I do have a few corruption plans in mind, depending on Fluorite's availability and rank at the time - though it comes down to this.

He does have a few qualities that would make him a good leader - his resourcefulness and availability to adapt most of all, even if ultimately it will not matter as much, once he will be discovered to be an unawakened senshi. But again, those qualities will come in handy - he's a loaded gun, and will be able to react as needed depending on the situation he'll be thrown in.

He's also very skilled with computers and writing programs, and as they say... what can create can also destroy. He's good at finding security holes and, ultimately, exploit them once he learned a little know-how. Want to remotely interrupt pro-senshi television broadcast ? Create a false broadcast to lure civilians right into a mass-energy drain trap ? He's your man.

Family

Hector Desmond - Matthew's father. In his early 50s, works at taskmaster for a construction company. Hector is a proud man, who has done what he wished with his life - got the job he wanted, married his high school sweetheart, fathered two children - and is not afraid in the least to show it off to everyone who looks even remotely interested to see. While rather tall and impressively built, Hector is actually a big softie at heart, and likes nothing more than spoil his children rotten. He was always a looser father than most, being quite certain that his children had to make mistakes in order to learn from them, and as he comes closer to graduating and actually become a legal adult, Matthew is enjoying an ever wider berth than before - though Hector has made it quite clear that he will be there for his son no matter when, or what.

Alicia Graver - Ashley's mother, in her early 40's - she's been a stay at home mom for most of her children's lives, but started working part-time at a boutique when Matthew turned 17, more as a distraction than out of actual need for money. Amusingly enough, she is the true authority figure in the family, thanks to Hector's easy-going nature, but she is slowly starting to ease up and also allows her son and daughter a wide berth as long as their grades aren't falling and that they aren't getting into trouble. She's a worrier and a fusser, though, so it can be a little hard to let go. She swears she found her first gray hair when Matthrew turned 20.

Elizabeth Graver - 27 years old, Matthew's maternal aunt. She is the host of a talk show called The Gray Area. Betty was always closer to Ashley than she had been for him, which Matthew seem convinced is just a woman thing, so he doesn't mind too much. He does watch her talk show religiously, through, and emails her when he has the spare time to see how she's doing.

Ashley Desmond -- Matthew's little sister, younger by 4 years, and lovingly dubbed 'midget' thanks for her lack of height. She's a very social and very active young woman, playing multiple sports and always up for something, which sometimes give her older brother issues with keeping up with the spazzic little ball of energy that she is. The Desmond siblings are not only bother and sister - they are best friends, as close as two fingers of the same hand. She doesn't understand how he can spend most of his day sitting in his room typing stuff on his computer while he can't understand how she can't sit still for more than 5 minutes at a time and tolerate people so close. In spite of it all, Matthew is the typical, overprotective older brother. Matthew knows all of Ashley's secret, and she knows all of his. Well, until recently that is...

Other Tidbits

Matthew is 5'4", which makes his calling of Ashley 'midget' quite ironic, given that women taller than he is isn't even really a hard thing to find ! Both Desmond children ironically inherited their mother's shortness, it seems.

I think Senshi of Sound may be too vague. There is already a Senshi of Voice, Senshi of Echos, Senshi of Song, Senshi of Music... So you might want to consider another sphere.

If sound is too large of a spectrum, I'd like to suggest 'noise' as an alternative for you. Sounds related , but still potentially extremely annoying and painful for ears. blaugh

edit :: Acccctually, one coffee and one bike ride later... I think you both have a point. Noise sounds more with line with what I want his powers to do, actually ? Mostly I want to play with confusion rather than deafening and whatnot. I think ill rewrite a few things once im back home and see how that works for him.

Happy to help! It doesn't seem like you'd need to change much to make it fit (attacks 1a and b fit so well already). Maybe you should give him a vuvuzela xd

At the moment I can only think of two possible attacks.

1- Where he finally can produce his own ear-piercing noise (like a mixture of shrieks and sirens) which would force an enemy to drop whatever they might be holding and cover their ears. Maybe even have a pitch that shatters glass? Although that would be pretty similar to the previous attacks.

2- Wikipedia is awesome for having this little gem in their info about noise " Noise can block, distort, or change the meaning of a message in both human and electronic communication". Perhaps a defensive attack? Where he generates a noise that blocks an enemy attack, or creates a sound barrier? (where behind him there is no horrible noise, only infront). Maybe something where his noise either lessens the effect of something, or mutates it and sends it back to the original caster? It could also be extra effective against other sound based elements (like noise would drown out song and voice)

And an alternative challenge for you could be the very campy "Come on feel the noise".

I really like the second idea. You are an idea goldmine. o_o; (though I do have the amazing habit to kind of lock myself into an idea and not see all the possibilities. Orz)

You're sure you're fine with me yoinking all this ? XD; I so fail at making up powers. Thank you so much for the help

I think it's becoming evident I suck at writing powers. <<; How's this ?
