So last year was my last year of Middle School. I wanted to be cool, so I got a purple cecilio named Farco. I love it.. but it's a piece of CRAP. I figure once I get a new one i'll make that one into a nice pretty band lamp. But in the meantime, the search begins! I'm not allowed to march Farco.. my BD is making me play on his crappy school clari.. but a former clarinetist here whose younger brother and sister are in band (percussionist and sax respectively), and she's allowing me to borrow her E11 BUFFET. Yes, the $1000 one. I'm so scared i'm going to drop it or hurt it ahh1?!?dsjkfls So, I want a good quality clari that will last me all the way through high school, given no accidental drops/slams/whatever.
Please my fellow Clarinetists, give me your best! heart (PS: My mom doesn't want to spend A LOT. I asked her about an E11. Insta-no. So nothing over 1000, 700 is pushing it, 500 is iffy.)

Hm. Well, i don't know how easy it would be to get yourself an instrument under $500 that is of good quality. Rentings a possibility, but if you want your own, $500 is probably a good pprice to be looking at.
Personally, I'm a big fan of Vitos. I have a Vito II that i use for marchign and then my Leblanc Normandy wood clarient for concert.
Vito II tends to have a very good quality of sound. One of my band's worst players uses one, and even he sounds good on it compared to some other clarients he has played on(new instrument).
I love my claribelle. When my section leader's instrument lost a pad the day of a competition my freshman year, she had me play on her instrument with my mouthpiece and she used mine, because back then i had a big problem with playign and marching at the same time. Meanign i couldn't. Afterwards, i nearly had to fight her to get it back.
I got it fofr around $550. Lightly used.

You should see if you can find any used Buffet clarinets that are in good condition.
I play on a Buffet R13 Greenline, and it's amaaaaaaazing and beautiful.. but it's $3,000 so that's not going to work. But really, even used ones are still great. I play on a used Buffet bass clarinet and it's in perfect condition after probably.. 5 or 6 years.
But if you can't find a good Buffet for an affordable price, CERTAIN Selmer's and Yamaha's aren't too bad. Especially for just high school.
When I started band in 5th grade I got a Selmer for about $100 and it lasted me until my junior year in high school..
Good luck finding the right one. smile
